Hoorah!

Does the article mention whether the disaffected patrons of said shithole will be getting their money back? My eyesight is getting a bit squinky from the booze I can't be arsed to read the article.

He also said all the company's funds had been "illegally" withdrawn "without notice from the Lapland New Forest Ltd bank account leaving us completely unable to trade".

Mr Mears added: "For all people wishing to claim financial reimbursement I can only advise that you return to our website for further information on this important matter."

But who the fuck plays 25 quid a person (and that was a discounted family rate) to go anywhere? Really?

That's more than places like Chessington, especially considering that kids under a certain age are often free and you can get some pretty good discounts.

Chessington aren't displaying full prices now because the zoo is open for winter but Alton Towers was £32 this year.

Yeah I did see that so made a guesstimate. I haven't been since 2002 but when I worked in radio we were always over-run with discount ticket offers (and free tickets for prizes which unscrupulous presenters would sometimes use to their own ends). Two for one on weekdays and stuff like that. In fact we did a day out like that one weekday so we all got in half price.

In anycase, I think my point stands. If you get one of the not very hard to find ticket offers, Chessington is far cheaper than Lapland was.

Oh indeed, especially as that lapland place was £30, not £25, the £25 was an offer for families.

It's on this site:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=Matchams,+Ringwood,+U&ie=UTF8&ll=50.808077,-1.820383&spn=0.008068,0.016887&t=h&z=16

Actually not in the New Forest either. Apparently it's a site near Bournemouth airport which is abit of a joke with locals. They have a karting track and some off-roading stuff there as well.

It was bad enough that they charged them stupid money for a complete shambles, the staff firing at the punters with assault rifles and pump action shotguns was even worse!

This has been all over the local news - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/7765080.stm

A brilliant scam, if ever I heard one. Get in a couple of sheds, some temps dressed up as Elves and some diseased Reindeer and call it a theme park. Then charge visitors £30 per ticket!

Father Christmas was apparently punched in the face, the Elves were spat at and the Nativity Scene was a cheesy billboard located 300 feet away in a muddy field.

Laugh? I almost laughed my arse off :) :DD

Hoorah for the Sealife Centre in Weymouth:
http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/3948575.Sea_Life_Park_in____Lapland____offer/

Free entry for people with Lapland tickets. So you can go in and stroke one of those flat fish things (Rays - Ed) like I did in Southsea in the 80's.

How could you go to such a place and NOT expect it to be shit? Even if it's wonderful, it'll still be shit because it's a fucking Christmas-themed park. You'd have just as magical a time going through the Christmas decorations section in B&Q.

Yes, a big angry boo-urns to Lapland Industries. A big hurrah and an honourary excellence badge to that aquarium in Weymouth. I was a bit shocked by the 'last Christmas she'll have' thing. The thing is, with the numbers involved there's bound to be cases like that, or families who are banking it on being a special event to take their minds off bad things. After initally pointing and laughing at the Funland style things they had there, humour quickly turned to condemnation in my brain, and I now scowl at Lapland Industries villainy.

Because Christmas is a time for giving and forgetting to read important critical consumer publications and sources on the respectability of products and or services. ?:|

But I can sympathise, this is a case of barefaced deceit, and though I'd be 'pshaaw' it can't be denied that some of the photos looked like a good time for kids. And everyone loves a Christmas market. ("I don't. Humbuggery!" - Snoangel) I feel sorry for those who were ripped, and for the first time I don't feel laughable contempt at idiots who don't bother to check or use logic to question value. It's parting rubes from their money, sure, but there's something horrible and tragic about doing such a thing, at such a time.

You might actually have struck on something we could do. Why don't we send a letter to the Sea-Life Centre, commending them on their excellence, along with a certificate or something?

Err...has someone stolen your Christmas spirits perkies?

Winter Wonderland in Cardiff is a Christmas themed park and it's ace. It has mulled wine and plenty of food. It's been running for (I think) 4 years now; it's always busy, it's well organised and people who have a soul actually seem to enjoy it.

I really like that idea, actually. Could certainly be a "BeEx Hall of Excellence" or something, and it'd bring more people in.

I think the SeaLife Centre in Birmingham should get a certificate of excellence for having a duty manager called Ian Crabbe. Although this was a couple of years ago so maybe he's not there any more.

Agreed, I have magical rose tinted memories of being a nipper and going to Christmassy theme things. Even just a Sunday school making that candle-and-orange-with-sweets thing with a present at the end and storytime was ace. (If religiously indoctrinating, natch.) All nippers need are devoted staff, good little rides, nice set design and music and santa. Parents will have gotten nice times with christmas markets and all that for a fiver, they unfortunately probably went by the website and seeing the price thought, "Hmm, at least a few times better than Winter Wonderland et al, surely?"

They CAN be done well. Winter Lapland had the option of putting care into a well built nativity stable, a bustly Christmas market with local produce and imported Barvarian and Dutch eats, a charming Santa's grotto/post office with fun activities for the kids and huskie pens at least of the standard you get in your usual council/charitable/estate park reserves. Instead they chose to fly by night and should have been taken out by Futurama's Robot-Santa. And even if they had been honest, such incompetence is unforgivable.

But it's not being pushed as a tacky Christmas attraction (see reindeer and elves!) like Lapland was. Do you see?

HMMMM. More from Lapland West Midlands via regional news Wolverhampton mag 'Expressandstar'...

Quote:
Traffic fears over Lapland festival
A mini Lapland complete with a real ice rink and reindeers is being created on a South Staffordshire field normally used for car boot sales.

But the 18-day festival planned for Essington has sparked controversy about traffic clogging up the small village, with organisers expecting 5,000 carloads of visitors a day. Marquees have already started to go up at the site off Bognop Road ready for its transformation, despite council chiefs only being told about it days ago.

It is due to start on Saturday and will run until Christmas Eve and will also feature huskies, life-size Christmas characters skating on ice, fairground rides, jugglers, fake snow and Santa Claus.

The event is being staged by Lapland West Midlands and tickets cost £25.

Councillor David Clifft, chairman of Essington Parish Council, said it would be the biggest-ever event to be held in the village.

He said: “Residents are bracing themselves for this event. Essington is a small rural village and an event of this scale and over along period of time has never been held here before.

“There are concerns about the large numbers of people and the traffic this event will attract and how our country lane will cope.”

Councillor Clifft said that the parish council had only been given notice just days ago of the festival.

He added: “We don’t want to spoil anyone’s enjoyment over the Christmas period, but to inform us of this kind of event on this scale only days ago has given us no time to talk with the organisers of the event to put plans in place to lessen the impact on the village.”

The field has a licence to run car boot sales.

If the parish council ordered the festival be scrapped and the organisers successfully appealed, Councillor Clifft said it would have to pay out thousands of pounds to compensate for loss of earnings.

No-one from Lapland West Midlands was available for comment today.

And from Money Saving Expert.com '~Chameleon~
Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan' says...

The people running the Lapland West Midlands scam are the same people that operated the scam driveway company One Stop Concrete Supplies Ltd.

This company wasn't even registered with Companies House therefore was an illegal entity which immediately rings alarm bells!

The people behind this scam are Anna and Chris Daley (aka Daily) and registered address of both websites is ...

25 Bee Lane
Fordhouses
Wolverhampton
West Midlands
WV10 6LE

Tel: 01902 399965

The telephone number is even the same one advertised on the Lapland website for booking tickets!

I've not yet found a link between these people and the Mears. It could well be that they are totally unconnected and having seen how much money the Mears have made thougt they would chance their luck on a similar scam, who knows!

I can't decide if it'd be depressing or surreally funny if two seperate scamsters came up with the same idea with the same pricing system. Sad thing is, it's going to be too late for lots of people with this one too, as they probably bought tickets before the news broke about the other one.

Oh, and also...

Yet more from Express & Star! Looks like the previous article I quoted was an older one, it is now open for roaring trade! (And roaring bonfires of vengence, I assume.)

Quote:

Does this look like Lapland?

(Picture cannot be posted :( )

This is the muddy field where a controversial Christmas festival is due to start tomorrow.

Organisers insist it will go ahead despite council threats of legal action which has left one senior councillor asking today: “Does this look like Lapland to you?”

Customers who have paid £25 in advance via a website will be shocked to see a dozen marquees, some Christmas trees and a handful of portable toilets on the Essington site near Wolverhampton, just 24 hours before the event gets under way.

Today co-organiser Jimmy James insisted he had council permission – a claim vehemently denied by South Staffordshire Council. The event opens at midday tomorrow on a field normally used for car boot sales off Bognop Road and runs until Christmas Eve.

Promoters Lapland West Midlands are promising real snow every hour, reindeers and huskies, stilt-walkers, an ice rink, bungee trampolining, a climbing wall, a Formula 1-style racetrack and an “authentic” Father Christmas.

Today a message on the company’s website states they have nothing to do with Dorset’s Lapland New Forest, which was shut down this week after 2,000 complaints to trading standards. It adds: “We have been inspected by the local authorities and given the go ahead to open this Saturday. We look forward to seeing you.”

But, speaking outside the site today where workmen were busy laying woodchip paths, Essington Parish Council chairman David Clifft said it was “not the winter wonderland” that was being promoted.

“I think people will be very disappointed,” he said. “Does it look like Lapland to you? It doesn’t to me. In fact the only way it would look like Lapland was if there was four feet of snow overnight in Essington.”

Councillor Clifft said officials would be visiting the site tomorrow with a view to shutting it down should any health and safety breaches be discovered. “Of course they need a licence,” he added. “This does not have the blessing of the authorities.

“It is a criminal offence to continue tomorrow and they face a £25,000 fine if this goes to court.”

Co-organiser Mr James, who today tried to get the Express & Star to sign an agreement promising not to take pictures in advance, vowed it was not a rip-off.

“You are welcome to come back tomorrow when everything will be up and running,” he said. “All the cartoon characters, reindeer, rides, lighting, will be in place on time.

“The council have approved everything. As long as everything goes ahead as advertised, as long as we give the public everything that we have said they are going to get, we are fine.

“This is going to be a proper event for children and adults, the £25 covers everything.”

Also, this message from Stafford council:

Quote:
Consumers warned about Lapland West Midlands
Consumers are being warned to think carefully before attending tomorrow's planned Lapland West Midlands event.

The organisers say it will: "make Christmas dreams come true for adults and children of all ages". Tickets are being sold online for £25.

The Lapland West Midlands website also currently states, "We have been inspected by the local authorities and given the go ahead to open." This statement is false.

Staffordshire County Council first became aware of this event on Monday December 1. The organisers of the event have subsequently been contacted about a number of serious concerns held by the local authorities - Staffordshire County Council and South Staffordshire District Council. They were asked to respond fully to these concerns by 5pm on Thursday December 4, but so far no response has been received.

The county council's concerns include:

Trading Standards - The public must not be misled by any advertising for the event. There are currently serious concerns about whether the organisers will be able to deliver on their website's promises given the current state of the site. Deliberately misleading the public over the nature of a paid-for event is a criminal offence.

Highways - Bognop Lane, Essington, is the location of the event. It is a narrow country lane and is unsuitable for the volume of traffic this event is likely to attract. The organisers have not said how they intend to get vehicles onto or off the site or if they are going to put signs on the highway. The proposed car park is a field, and vehicles leaving the site are likely to leave large amounts of mud on the road which would be a major hazard.

Animal Health - all animals need to have suitable accommodation and be properly looked after. Reindeer are being advertised as one of the attractions, but they can only be legally moved onto the site by holders of special permits. We are not aware that such permits exist.

The county council is working with colleagues from South Staffordshire District Council who have their own concerns, principally over public safety and licensing.

Carol Dean, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities said: "We are extremely concerned about this event. We are monitoring the situation and will have officers on-hand tomorrow to check the site and advise the public."

Later, Gordon Brown in a crowd pleasing move announced that ticket holders could solve their problems WITH FIRE.

Yeah, we could compete to who can create the rattiest, most pathetic attraction and still be able to charge people admission without being punched in the face.

I'd have two dead huskies nailed to the side of a doghouse to keep them upright, a nativity made out of Lego, my Santa Claus would be a swearing black tramp with no beard and his grotto would be the back of a transit van. A hunting decoy with branches glued to its head would be my 'reindeer' and I'd hire a huge dump truck to churn the ground into a huge gloppy muddy mess with its tires.

There'd also be a 'magic forest' of fibre-optic trees placed on rickety shelves so you walk past them at eye level, and I'd throw wads of newspaper into a wood chipper to produce realistic 'falling snow'.

Oh, and a Christmas market selling bootleg Wiis, home-made copies of Mannheim Steamroller albums and broken fairy lights.

Ah, but don't forget that trains run at Christmas, and people rely on them to get home in time. Trains, like, the trains he is in charge of. This year, there'll be many a travelling businessman sleeping on a freezing station platform whilst Little Timmy goes presentless!

Agreed, his invention has a thoughtful and utterly heartless despairing entropy unmatched by any other Lapland - it's almost beautiful.

A Lapland-style attraction which is set to open on Saturday does not yet have an entertainment licence, a Staffordshire council has said.

Reindeer, marquees, indoor skating, music and a fair are among plans for Lapland West Midlands, near Essington.

South Staffordshire District Council said it first heard about the plans on 27 November, and that paperwork was needed before the event could go ahead.

But organisers have said the issues could be resolved in the next two days.

Council spokesman David Pattison said they would be monitoring the situation carefully.

"If the event takes place as described on the website, it would need a licence," he said.

If it goes ahead without a license, the organisers would be committing a criminal offence, he added.

He said an event on this scale should have been planned "well in advance".

Ettingshall Parish Council have also raised concerns about increased traffic at the site.

However, some residents have said they were looking forward to visiting the attraction.
8) :S

Looks like you can't fail, Snowangel!
