Hello. I have a wonderful router that I bought off of someone here (well on WoS) so all is well with that, but I am looking for one here in Lancaster as Craig's is rubbish. Really, really rubbish.

A list of requirements? Here we go!

Things that would like to be connected to the internet:
1 PC
2 MacBooks
XBox 360 (which has one of those wireless things)
PS3
Wii
2 DSs

I think that's it.

The one that he has at the moment is a combined router/modem, so I'd want to get either the same kind of thing or separates. I'd like something that is easy to set up, compatible with things that we have (DSs drop the connection after ten minutes exactly with the current one) and not cost the earth.

Also if it can make cups of tea that'd be great!

Does he have an ADSL Internet connection (I expect he does)?

I bought a Netgear at Zardoz' recommendation, and couldn't be more pleased with it. I can guarantee it works with a Mac, a DS and a Symbian phone. It's hardly going to fail with a PC, and I'd be VERY surprised if it didn't work with your consoles too.

I'll check the model number when I get home.

No, Grim... it's just broadband through a BT landline - internet options in Lancaster are, hmm... not great.

I do not know what that is, Squirt.

Cheers, Ian Osbourne - that'd be great

ADSL is broadband - it's a type of broadband. I am 99% certain that this is what he has (it's what I had when I lived in Lancaster).

Yeah Netgear stuff is pretty solid, I can confirm that mine is super-aceness with my 360 and Wii too.

I think it's this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-DG834G-54Mbps-Wireless-Firewall/dp/B0000TZ8Z8

I can confirm when I get home If you like.

Sorry Grim... I asked him and he said 'I can't remember'. See - this is why it needs to be easy to set up :P

Breaking news from the other room: is is ADSL.

Sorry Ian OSBORNE (slaps own wrist)

That is ADSL.

What you're after is a router that has an ADSL modem and a wireless interface, all in one box. Often referred to as "a router" as you have done :)

How about getting the same type you've got at home, then you'll already know how to set it up and stuff?

Because I have a cable modem and separate router in London - you can't get cable broadband up around these backwaters, hehe.

Also, mine WAS easy to set up, but only because everyone here was walked me through it step by step after I got in a tizz...

Just checked, and mine's a Netgear DG834G. Chances are it's been replaced by a newer model now, but if you go for its successor, you won't go far wrong.

That's superb, Ian Osborne - I will try and see if I can find me one of those, or it's evolutionary sibling.

I've got the 834G and it's been nothing but trouble. Gets clogged up after a while and needs resetting. I had a 632 which did the same. The best router I've had has been a binatone adsl2000 oddly enough. Never had a jot of trouble with that cheapo bit of kit.

Don't get a Belkin, they do weird things with their port forwarding so most of them don't work properly with Xbox Live. As I found out.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL (But I'm on cable).

Mimi, if you want to keep things simple, then you should go with the advice on an all-in-one thinger, I think.

I had the netgear thing mentioned earlier, but mine stopped talking to the internet. If other people recommend it, then it's probably safe to go with that, though.

I have a setup of two wireless routers and an ADSL gateway, which works really well, but it's in no way uncomplicated.
