The demo was awful (though I said that about the first game and I loved it when i got it as a present).

Nothing is shaking my view that it is a weak, cookie cutter sequel, with little added*. The shift to daylight seems to be a mistake too. I know the same people made it as the first one, but it feels like it's a farmed off sequel.

The nearest comparison content wise that I can think of is Doom II pretty much the same but with a few more levels. But Doom II had superb level design, and this really doesn't. From the demo at least.

I could imagine it for about £15 - £20, but based on the demo there is not a chance in hell I'm getting this this side of chrimbo.

* Just want to distance myself from the 'VALVE SCREWED ME' people. I think L4D is ace and has lots of content and is awesome. I just see no need to upgrade to this.

I feel the same way, Lave. I'm hoping the demo is a poor example, but I don't have high hopes. Miss Malabar will buy it regardless, the idiot, so I'll get to play it either way.

I really can't see why people are saying the demo is awful. I thought it was great.

Yeah, I really liked the demo, and scavenge mode that was playable at Eurogamer Expo.

I too liked the demo and very much looking forward to the new game. Still a bit peeved that Valve never really let L4D mature (especially in terms of mods and custom maps/scenarios), but thems the breaks.

Well, the mods and stuff will all be forward compatible.

Post subject:  Re: The Left4Dead Thread

We played the demo today and I really enjoyed it. I am glad they have made a sequel because it is new levels to play, plus there are a few new baddies which is great. I think versus will be more fun with the different baddies now. Also like the fact that there are much more gun choices plus nice additions like the adrenalin shot. The crescendo event in the demo is much more frantic than the ones where you just wait in one spot and the moving witch is quite tense until you figure out where she is.
Basically, it's L4D with extras. I am more than happy with this and it's a must buy for me. I'm betting I'll have it by December.

Post subject:  Re: The Left4Dead Thread

L4D1 was slight in content but supremely balanced (at least in campaign), I worry that the additions to the game for L4D2 have been made to justify a sequel and might spoil the balance of the game.

Another worry I've got is that the players now lack outlines. The level design in the demo is confusing and it is easy to get lost, especially now light can't be used to show you were you should be heading (more so if some of it is randomly generated) & the inability to find people could be awesome or (more likely) just simply frustrating...

it might turn out like Advance Wars 2 - a bloody ace game but the balance is shot to fuck.

Hopefully some reviews will re-assure me.

Post subject:  Re: The Left4Dead Thread

I played the demo today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The new additions and enemies are fun and interesting, and it doesn't suffer from being in daylight at all IMO.

The problem is that it's a crammed Christmas schedule and I can't see myself getting this for at least 4-5 months when I'm done with MW2, FM3, FO3, GH5, Brutal Legend, etc, etc. They'd have done better sitting on this for a year and refining it; I'd be ready for some more L4D by this time next year.

The other problem is fracturing the community, although if they make it cross-compatible with the first game it won't be a problem.

My general impressions were that is was nowhere near as bad as the original demo.

Possibly to the extent I'd be willing to take a punt on it, I'm not sure.

Just picked up L4D for £15 at Game. Barg. I've played it lots on EggsBox downstairs, but rather shallowly want cheevos. Also to play a friend in the US and get Crash Course, and a sense of completion.

Has cross-play between L4D1 and 2 been confirmed or denied yet?

No. I doubt it. Maybe on PC, not on 360.

Some of us are still into L4D. Invite-me-do if you want a game, been a while since I played it with bezzies :(

Cools. I'll be on tonight around eight and after, probably. I'll send an invite when I'm ready and stooge around playing Tropico 3 through Steam otherwise. You guys use mics? I can finally get round to setting up my crappy one. :)

PC

If I can get housemate Kieron to sign up to Live and hook his Eggsbox up, mayhaps one day?

That's crap. Having a fractured community is really to the detriment of the game. Looked what happened to Halo 2.

Halo 2 was boring repetitive shit.

On steam forums, someone has hacked into the code for the l4d2 demo which includes plug in space for 3 seperate dlcs. Apparently one of them looks promising for bringing in the old maps.

Already dismissed by Valve as test code used to verify that DLC packs would work with the 360 build.

Is it just me or is the No Mercy rooftop finale the hardest of all the finales? Tried it ten times now, and I nearly always get killed by the tank. The last time I managed to kill the two tanks, and was mere metres from the helipad, when a boomer surprised me and I shot it. Vomit everywhere. Fortunately I had a pipe bomb. Zombie spree averted. Turned to get to da chopper, but then a hunter leaped on me just as I was half way up the ramp and started whaling on me, and just as everybody was jumping in to airborne safety. I died. FUCKERS. >:(

I have never, not ever, on PC or EggsBox, completed that level.

Post subject:  Re: The Left4Dead Thread

Yes it is one of the hardest.

I find the best tactic is to keep a molotov in hand and when a tank appears set him on fire and run around the rooftops avoiding him until he dies whilst taking out the other less troublesome monsters.

If you are playing with bots then that makes it even harder.

The tank followed us in to the chopper once, and proceeded to beat the living shit out of us. There wasn't even nearly enough leg room.

No, was playing with real lifers over the net for the first time, rather than with my housemate as usual. Turns out I was joint best in the team, the other two were okay - there was one who kept tearing off ahead and getting killed repeatedly, but mercifully he dropped out to be replaced. It's rather surprising to find that I'm one of the better players.

I like your fire tactic, I shall try it. Funny how that first finale is way the hardest though, even Blood Harvest is easier.

I would have hoped the tank would suddenly have been overwhelmed by a childlike sense of wonder at becoming airbourne, becoming docile and charmingly distracted, until you set down.

Fire and tanks work oddly. The fire does no damage at all, but after a fixed amount of time (60 seconds I think? regardless of how much health the tank has) the tank dies. So the net effect is, you either set it on fire, or shoot it -- not both.

Hmm, think I'll blast away regardless while it's on fire, as its somehow funnier. Gotta keep that zomb-movie-magic!

Played Crash Course as well, neat stuff.
