Not getting this now. Getting Fallout 3 instead. Such is the whimsy of a man and his games...

Fallout 3 is unparalleled excellence, so not a bad call.

Yeah. I'm loving L4D but I would still say Fallout the better call.

This Thursday is a no-go for me (funeral), but I can do any other Thursday, or any other day if I know in advance, probably.

There are no regular bezzie nights going at the moment - oh, except poker, not sure when that is. We need more every-week nights. I might put a poll up tomorrow, see what nights are best for people.

Poker is thursdays. (9-11ish depending on how well you do)
And there's FIFA on wednesdays (8-10ish depending on how long you want to keep playing)

Good game with Wullie last night and a couple of AI characters. Played the whole of the second campaign on normal. We managed to get to the end of the last mission only to fall when trying to run for the boat (bloody tank). So what did the final AI character do? Run to revive his team mates, with no thought of his own safety? No...he bloody well ran past everyone and jumped on the boat and buggered off.

The AI can be quite spectacular, can't it.

Like when Lave and his girlfriend were incapacitated, probably on fire, I was being strangled by a smoker, and AI-controlled Louis decided to try to revive both characters before even bothering to look at me as my life drained away. We all died, of course.

I still laugh at us all dying within about 10 seconds of alerting the horde. It was spectacular.

That was just brilliant. The AI's orchestration that moment can only be described as 'human'. It was just perfect.

I still laugh at turning the first corner after leaving the safe room, to find a boulder flying out of a tank's hands and towards my face.

We had some moments last night. Spawning a tank right on top of us in a tiny little stairwell springs to mind.

I've read this is a game of momentuous moments and based on two hours of play I can well believe it.

Man, I want this so much now, but I'm already juggling three games with precious little free time as it is.

The tanks really do spice things up; they have a terrible habit of either spawning at entirely the worst points, or making everyone panic and do stupid things. Like me shooting the car, setting off its alarm and alerting the horde, whilst my brain overloads at the situation and sends me running around like a headless chicken. Leaving Lave to clear things up.

Or the time it spawned in the crop field on the third [citation needed] movie and nobody could see it. Cue panic. That was exactly the same moment I managed to accidentally one-shot a witch and achieve the cr0wnd achievement, too.

Or the time I was in a group trying to do the Untouchables achievement (nobody take damage after contacting the rescue vehicle), and right at the last second as the untouched survivors were boarding the boat, the perfectly timed boulder flew into our heads.

There have been so many memorable moments. I've never had that in a game before.

Aye, we got through loads of bits by the skin of our teeth and then got stabbed in the back at the last bit, it was hilarious. It's fast, twitchy and exciting too. I had to read half a book after I'd switched it off, just so I'd calm down enough to sleep :D

Caught 4 of you all playing about 10ish, but managed to grab the late shift with Wullie, Malabar and Morte. Was great stuff, thanks for the invite guys.

That last attempt in the barn had we were on fire*. We were like some finely oiled military machine.

* talking of which I only set myself on fire once. Progress.

That last attempt was just brilliant, but the highlights for me were in the crop field again. Things can turn from quiet and optimistic to hectic with two dead in the blink of an eye in that place; you really can't see a thing. The tank spawning with a boomer was just brutal.

Oh god. The game we played before I left and you joined was the level that ends at the ruined farmhouse on the wharf and the Director totally fucked us over with the final horde spawn. With one of us down and two on low health, a Tank jumped into the building with us, a Smoker dragged someone off, and a Hunter pinned someone else. Then we all died. Oh and there might have been a Boomer too.

Heh. I absolutely love how spawns are completely different every time.

Did I mention the Tank/Boomer combo was in the field, and nobody could see either of them*? I was desperately trying to rely on surround-sound and the outlines of everyone else being thrown around/puked on to pinpoint and shoot.

Punishing.

*then your screen turns bile-coloured (green with a hint of yellow) and the madness is magnified tenfold.

What difficulty levels are you guys playing on? From playing the demo, Advanced seemed to be about right.

We were on normal. My attempt with Lave last week was on Advanced, and it wasn't too bad, but we really needed a fourth player. Louis had a mind of his own.

The tanks and witches on >normal become really difficult. It takes a whole heap of co-ordination and firepower to take them down. It's ace.

Normal, and until I get better at it, that's where I'd like it to stay. It's making me sweat quite enough as it is.

According to Kotaku (so very much [citation needed]) the new map pack DLC will be....

.... FRRREEEEEEEEE!

Quote:
The pack, due this spring, introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode (Death Toll, Dead Air).

Just unlocking Versus mode for Death Toll and Dead Air that already exist in campaign I guess.

EDIT: Don't think it's getting more maps. Just new a mode. And versus on all 4 chapters rather than 2.

I'm hoping survival will be fun. One of my favourite things about the game is that it isn't 'fair' which is normally a huge no-no in game design. But when The Director decides to end you all - it's just awesome. So something where you just hold out as long as you can - knowing you are doomed - sounds right up its street.

EDIT: From Joystick

Quote:
According to GameTrailers, Survival mode is akin to Call of Duty: World at War's Nazi Zombie mode, sending wave after wave of brain-eating monsters toward our favorite foursome. The mode will track how long players can survive the onslaught; however, it is unclear if players are competing as a team or for individual times. Survival will be playable on 12 maps -- since Valve has yet to announce new maps, Survival is likely to be played on 12 of the existing 20 maps in the game.
