I just wrote this to my girlfriend on MSN...

Quote:
The Nintendo Gamecube was going to be called Dolphin. I wonder if they planned to have it dolphin shaped, back then, before the cube was chosen. I suppose a games console that can be killed by tuna fishing wasn't a great idea from a PR point of view.

I must be in a really odd frame of mind today.

More animal related nintendo naming nonsence-with the often quite sily, ridiculed and 'offensive' name of the wii, nintendo were planning on renaming it the nintendo cash-cow.

It's taking a while but I've been letting my PC 'preview' the season overnight. Another day should do it - torrents seem to bring Xbox Live to a standstill so I've been doing one or the other.

Now that I've finished Fallout 3 (well, being a good guy, anyway) I thought I'd start Story mode on Warriors Orochi 2. To sum up -

- Same graphics (not too fussed - there was nothing wrong with them)
- Lots of re-used sound, particularly speech from the less-important character which got repetitive in the first game, never mind this one.
- Horrific slowdown from the start. The first game had one or two bits towards the end, but this has it all the way through. Unless, they actually intended it to be a mini-game of 'rotate the camera around so as few enemies as possible are on screen'
- Seems easier than the first game - got to the end level pretty easily. However...
- The end level on the Shu story mode was ridiculous. Orochi was easy enough to get to but uses some cheap attacks while my allies decided to glitch all over the place like epileptic breakdancers. Took about 30 minutes longer than it should've done.

Worse bit - when you complete a level, you're asked if you want to save. I always choose no, as I tinker with the newly-found weapons, then save. Unfortunately, if you do this after completing story mode, it prompts you to re-load your last saved game, meaning I've got to the last bloody level again.

Didnt it also get the name starcube or starbox or something considered too?

I think dolphin was the codename because of the ATI flipper video chip.

I do remember the rumours in mid 2000 of the Starcube name too. I kinda like that name better. I suspect they changed it to sound more 'grown up'.

Good point, hadn't thought of that. :bulb:

Here's irony for you. I'm sitting in the corner of the room working on something that needs to be finished tonight. Shin is sitting in the corner playing on Bomberman with Joans, Sheepeh and some others.

All I can hear is "Oh fucking bollocks" and assorted other Shinisms, so I turn my music on.

"Would you mind if you turned that down a bit please?", she says.

Another irony being that many other forum members are playing Bomberman, but on the Spectrum. Including me when I should be working!

Damn that level 4.

Is that why you invited me to a party?

I have to apologise for ignoring you, though. I was round at my girlfriend's hammering away on the drums on Rock Band 2, while she sang and her brother desperately attempted to keep up on the guitar, then completely forgot you'd messaged me. Those rhythm games are an arse to pause!

I really should get Bomberman. Is it worth however many points it costs?

I got it a few weeks ago and its fun but when i logged into the system tonight one of the 'adverts' on the front of the myxbox screen said 25% off Bomberman

I went to the store part to check but it wouldn't give me a cost since i already had it but if its on special now its really a no-brainer

*EDIT* ah according to Major Nelson its now 600 points

You'd better start to think what game we're playing next week. I can't see anyone touching that!

Any CPC, Spectrum or C64 game as long as you haven't played it properly for 10 years. Needs to be a game with a score.

About an hour ago, someone linked me to 'glassass.com'. Until then, I thought the internet's days of being genuinely distressing were long gone.

I hope any uninitiated Bezzies will take that as a polite warning... :(

If I do win, you can pick the game as my knowledge of videogames is pretty much nought on anything before I was born, Im happy enough to play old games and try and get the high score.

Oh lordy, I don't want to do it again.

I suggest you perhaps throw it open to the floor should you win and nominate one from the suggestions?

Some suggestions then :

1) Chinny starts a thread somewhere with nominations and we get a list together for when this type of thing happens
2) You go to someplace like http://www.worldofspectrum.org/ystop100.html and pick one of those (top 100 speccy games - Stuart also has a list with screenies here : http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.c ... top100.htm)
3) You go to someplace like http://www.lemon64.com/games/ and pick from their top list (however you'll have to look closer at those since a lot of the top are RPG's or adventure type games).
4) You ask Chinny for a similar site for the Amstrad :-)

Zio - that sounds a bit poo, I've been feeling sick for over 24 hours now, dunno what's going on, but I have to go out shortly and all I want to do is crawl back into bed (not that I ever wanted to crawl out of it in the first place). There must be a bug of sorts going around or something. :(

Well it's downloaded 5 from 12 so it's getting there. Plus I'm back at work (just about!) so my PC has all the bandwidth to itself now.

Apparently lots of people went home sick from here yesterday so I'm glad it's not just us!

I fear you misunderstand, and that he was actually wishing for the IWF proxies that blocked the picture of that kid on the album cover to come to his defence and stop him ever seeing what's on that site.

GJ - thanks! Still feel a bit sicky, but at work now so never mind. I took Monday off and got told afterwards that practically the whole office failed to turn up due to illness.

Being at work, I cannot take a look at this 'glassass.com' thing - though I fear what may be contained. I finally saw the infamous '2 girls 1 cup' video for the first (and only) time a couple of weeks ago and it still makes me feel ill just thinking about it! I presume this must be something similar, if not the same thing.

Little bit of a blog time:
- Went to see NHS Clinical Psycologist for the first time today. Man is an arsehole. Told me that since I was already seeing a private counsellor (at the fucking suggestion of my GP) it would be 'unethical' for him to see me unless I ask my private counsellor to immediately remove me from her books. I told him 'no thanks then' and left.

- Former Lady Zio's letter arrived. Read it after the above appointment with a mutual friend of ours. The letter serves as final lasting proof that FLZ is an emotionally unstable, immature little girl and I am better off without her. I might get it framed.

- Have appointment to see GP tomorrow to review my anti-depressant prescription. I feel 1 more month may be all I need. Also have three weeks till next counselling session and not sure if I need to go anymore. I think I'm getting better.

In fairness, Zio, she probably spent an awful lot of emotional energy writing it, so, y'know. Stick it in a drawer and come back to it in 18 months time.

Sorry to ehar the consultant is a twat, though.

Well done Mr.Z!!!! *BIG 'UGS*

You are better off without her-you don't need someone in your life making you more upset/muddled/depressed that you already are! Fuck her-or as the case may be, don't! :)

Keep at the tablets until you feel okay-remember they can be addictive so just keep tabs on how you are feeling and have regular Dr appointments, but mainly-

JUST GO OUT AND HAVE FUN! Nothing is a better cure for you than that :)

Glad you seem better though
x

Well, yes. I mean "Stick in a drawer and, in 18 months time, if you are still bothered, then do something about it, by which time the odds are you will have forgotten about it"

Fortunately I have flash blocked in Firefox so I didn't watch the Glassass.com movie - the description was enough for me :D

On an entirely unrelated note (I don't want to post twice) has anybody heard anything about L'il Mr Christmas's wellbeing? MrC has been missing since posting that his son was due a stay in hospital...

Still fairly poorly, still not sure what's up with him, unfortunately.

That's tremendously sucky. I do hope the little sir is okay!

Mr. Afterthought - I know mate. And 'stick it in a drawer' is exactly what I will do. One of the points of it was that everytime she sees me, hears from me or about me, it reminds her how fucked up the situation is and it upsets her too much. So now she would rather avoid me and everything to do with me. And as we stand, that's exactly how I feel about her too.

Who knows what will happen in the future, eh? I'm not going to waste anymore time and energy speculating.

Little bit of a blog time:

Told me that since I was already seeing a private counsellor (at the fucking suggestion of my GP) it would be 'unethical' for him to see me unless I ask my private counsellor to immediately remove me from her books. I told him 'no thanks then' and left.

That's pretty standard practise to be fair. In his shoes I would have done the same thing. Indeed if a client comes to me for remedial massage but is also visiting another therapist, I would refuse to treat them without the other therapists permission and having discussed the problem with them. But that's physical stuff anyway, no way would I jointly treat someone where mental health was concerned.

If you're getting on ok with your councellor then I shouldn't worry about it too much anyway, if it's depression you are being seen for and not something you would need CBT for, then it's pretty moot (unless you can't afford the therapist obv).

Then there's always us. 8) :)

I dunno, it was just his whole attitude about it that got my back up. My private counsellor has packed up for Christmas and my next appointment with her is in mid-January. She knew I was seeing the NHS guy and we talked about the fact that I might not actually end up going to this next appointment as a result, thus technically I may have already finished with her. This wasn't good enough for NHS guy when I explained it to him and he told me that I should go back to the private counsellor in January, decide then if I want to continue treatment with her or not and if not, call my GP and they'll re-arrange for me to see the NHS guy - but I'll have to go to the back of the waiting list again. He told me that until I did that, he would not see me any further.

This was all after explaining how busy he is, how he won't give people full appointments anymore because of the workload and how if I miss an appointment for any reason I get immediately removed from his books and would have to go back to my GP to get signed back up again and join the back of the waiting list, again. He also answered the phone to someone while we were talking, which I don't really mind but seemed a touch unprofessional. He just generally didn't seem at all interested in seeing me. Put it this way: I could see why he was free to see when private counsellors cost £50ph. So, whilst I really can't afford many more sessions with her, I'll stick to the private one for now.
