Tonight I am ushering in the New Year at the Casino! This could mean that 2009 kicks off in a most wonderful way for me, but will more likely mean that it'll start with me more in debt than ever and really pissed off.

Happy New Year! :D

Use the Martingale system! Stick a bet on red, and if you lose, next go double your stake. You're guaranteed to make a profit*.

I actually do have a 'system' for playing Roulette, based on my complete and utter distrust of casinos. Take, for example, tonight. There'll be lots of people there gambling away stupid amounts of money. Then there'll be me, who rarely bets more than a fiver on a spin of the wheel. I always just bet on the numbers, thirds or colours that the rich folks with money to burn aren't, since I figure who are the casino more likely to pay out for - the guy who's laid out £100 on black or the guy who has £5 riding on red (if you see what I mean)?

It may sound like nonsense, but genuinely it has a tendency to work. Whenever I go in there on really busy nights, when I stick to this tactic I normally leave with more money than I started with (but never a huge amount, since I never bet huge amounts - I go for fun, nothing else). But if I go on a quiet night, where few others are laying out big bets, I always end up losing out.

I knew a guy at uni who played slot machines like that. He'd sit and watch people fill the £200 one up with cash, losing, then he'd finally go up and snag the £25, £50 or whatever it was ready to pay out.

On the drive into Bristol this morning the draw distance was rubbish.

I shouldn't have got the PS2 version.

It is FLIPPING COLD out there... and the car is protesting whenever I have to start it after it's been sitting out overnight, so I reckon it might need new glow plugs or something (Skoda forum suggests timing) as the comedy cloud of smoke is a bit embarassing.

My colleague wandered off home for New Year's without his keys... only a combination of my quickly spotting them and his corpulence enabled me to catch up with him before he got on his train.

Thats the kind of thing that would have been hi-larious 10 or 11 years ago back when the internet as we know it was still young.

Well, borderline amusing to sixth form kids of that era. Not something a supposedly well-adjusted 40 year old woman should be doing on the brink of the space year 2009. 8)

Ace has just left for his journey back home, hopefully he had a good time while he was here. Me being a bit of a shut-in at the best of times means I'm often left stuck for things to say, so it was nice to be able to fall back on our common interest of automobularmobiles, although Ace has a far wider knowledge than myself.

Shin was her usual self, I don't believe any more needs to be said.

Well, that was total bollocks. No Gordon Burns, stupid sound effects, stupid presenter. The assault course is conducted two contestants at a time and the constant jerkyness of the camera work gives you no feel for the course and doesn't give any sense of continuity.

Ultimately a pale imitation, I won't be making time for it again. Boo-urns.

Ambulance operators across the West Midlands said they dealt with an average of one call every 12 seconds during the first hours of the new year.

A spokesman said the number of 999 calls steadily increased towards midnight, with nearly 1,300 received during the first five hours of the day.

Most were for alcohol-related incidents, the spokesman said, including people falling over.

The service also received 50 inappropriate calls.

One man rang to ask if New York was in America.

*Nottingham clique alert*

People present at Myp's house way back in August may remember our former leader Grim... messing around with his tv.
Although the picture (taken last night :D ) below doesn't show it too clearly, you can see from the text going across the bottom that Myp's tv picture appears to be slightly slanted. :)
Apparently jiggling the scart lead didn't fix it. :DD

Depends why you want to watch it. If you're looking for the awesome that reminds you of the original series, it's not there. If however you're just looking for a generic game show that happens to feature similar puzzles that test a variety of attributes, then sure, give it a shot.

I was brought Haribo though by both of your kids :) this makes me happy inside.
I tried to call you again last night...but it was noisey and I was drunk! On the other hand I got Jamesoff (not as in 'got him off' ohh err FNARR) but I rang him as I had a rather interesting textual message off him :DD and Mr.Dudley was ignorant as per usual :p

Really glad you had a nice time Ace :) feel free to come again anytime-YOU were a slugasofa :D
