I didn't see it necessary personally, for the exact reason that Kalmar and Zardoz demonstrated so ably, but hey, the evolution of a political system and all that jazz (as the Bible says).

As for Mods - it's coming v. soon, ja, it's just a matter of finding time and waiting for 'stuff' to happen. And yes, Zardoz and Kalmar are both candidates.

It narrows down the field. Otherwise we end up with a long list of names making it harder to choose.

In real life elections you have to do it (I think).

When I pushed him on supplying a better reason (jokingly), Curiosity indicated that he too was joking.

In either case, the seconding was always silly, removing as it does the need to actually have a vote at all. I've listed it for completeness' sake, along with the mention of Grim... being the People's Princess.
