Hello :munkeh:

I really need some kind of organisational tool, like a calendar/diary type thing to keep my dates and things in order. OK, so I could just go and by a diary, yes? See, I have tried that before, but there are a few problems:

1) I move around a lot and always forget it
2) Unless the diary is willing to automatically flip itself open five days before a friend's birthday and yell at me to go and buy a card, no good.

So, I know there is some kind of calendar thing on my computer (which is a mac) but I want something that will also notify me, in advance, of birthdays, people I am supposed to be meeting with, things I am supposed to do, etc. If I could set something up to email me these notifications we'd be on to a winner. Is there either an application/website that will do this for me.

(I am 100% prepared for someone to tell me that the calendar app on the mac does so this, but I have been trying to work out how and have so far failed.)

There is?

How long have I overlooked that, then?

Thanks davpaz, I'll check it out.

I have Trillian Astra set to log in to Facebook, and it updates my status and things as well as reminding me when someone's birthday is coming up, customisable to 3, 2, and/or 1 day before.

Other than that I love Rainlendar.

I just can't stand Facebook, Sheepeh, I find it so irksome. I have been setting up google calendar and it seems to do the job just fine - I set it up to send me a test notification and it worked perfectly, so I think I will go with that as it is reletively easy to use :)

Cheers guys and geese.

My phone syncs with outlook. It's very, very loud 5 days before friend's birthday.

With the monkey island theme.

I think it does text messaging too? I've not used it for a while since I installed the calendar plugin for Thunderbird, not that I've put anything in my calendar anyway.

I use the calendar on my N95 and it's excellent! It kind of acts like a PDA calendar does and comes up on screen before the actual event.. It's a bit tricky to read sometimes but it does the job.

So my advice? Buy an N95.. Debrand it.. Update the firmware... Edit all your diary dates.. put it on a shelf.. forget about it.. goto googlecalendars.com

I don't even know what that means, TheVision. Do you mean that the N95 is a phone? My mobile phone is broken, actually. It did have a calendar on it but it was cumbersome to use, also, sometimes I don't use my phone for a long time (I mean, sometimes I forget to turn it on for a month or so, though I am trying to get out of that habit).

I only use a PAYG mobile, Myp, because I just don't ever use it enough to justify a contract.

I do put my laptop on at least once a day, though.

Combine the iphone with a nifty bit of hacking, and use a PAYG SIM!

I got really nervous soft-modding the XBox, hacking iPhones is far beyond my stress factor coping level.

Hacking an iPhone is actually easier than softmodding an Xbox.

Yes, the N95 is a phone, it's the same one I mentioned at the top of the thread, it syncs with Outlook including the alarms.

(Mine's the 8GB)

Even I managed it.

Step 1. Download iLiberty+ (or program of your choice)
Step 2. Tick all boxes.
Step 3 Click go.
Step 4. Profit!

Mimi, I have iCal on my mac (obviously I guess, because it comes with it), and I use iSync to make it talk to my Nokia N95 (other smartphones are available) and that keeps my upcoming notes (days out, family birthdays etc) on my phone front screen where I can easily see them. I find it works ok for me, and if you are looking for a new phone as you say, it might be a good opportunity to get something handy for appointments etc.

But don't do this on an iPhone 3G.
