Yeah, but I didn't expect it to make any difference. Still, much hurrah.

While we are on the subject. The amount of times i've clicked on a link that has been posted, then closed the link only to realise it opened in the same tab, rather than a new tab, is a tad frustrating.
Is that an option I can change in the forum software myself, or is that an admin thingy?

I think that's actually a ‘this user is a mong’ thing ;) Links should always (usually) open in the same tab by default; there are user shortcuts (click the scrollwheel, for example) to open links in new tabs.

I know there are shortcuts, when I remember I use them. :D It always used to be that links open in the same window, due to there not being tabbed browsing. Since tabbed browsing came along a few years back, the default on virtually every forum I use is to open in a new tab.

We had this debate before. You're still wrong, I see. Good UIs are all about predictability. The user shouldn't be wondering what a given action will do, but your proposal gives them no way to know before clicking unless they make a habit of scrutinising the status bar (which may not even exist in their browser).

Good UI on a user-centric site is all about not taking the user away from the site.

Normally I'd agree with Malaboob, but every other forum I've used sends offsite links to a new tab, which given our demographic could mean this forum messes with user expectation.

Ultimately, I couldn't give a shit as I never click a link with the left button anyway.

The login problem Gaywood complained about may or may not be fixed. Every time you now launch the app when you've left it logged into a forum, it'll log you in again and then leave you in the same state as last time.

I haven't seen the problem since, but haven't spent a great deal of time with the new release yet. Any contrary experiences, Gaywood?
