Me and M'Tangle completed GoW1 Act 3 on Insane yesterday. Not far to go!

Inside the worm
Fighting Skorge
Flying away and being chased by Skorge

Oops, that's what happens when you use fast reply and are an idiot.

That bit's rubbish. Loads of annoying running about and avoiding stuff. If I wanted to play Mario, I wouldn't be playing "Men With Large Guns 2"

Then we shall have to agree to disagree on that.

Also the

tank over the ice
? You could see where the

ice
was going to break well in advance! It was like a loony tunes cartoon where the background that was coloured different was going to move.

You just ahve to know in which order to shoot them. Same goes with the confrontation with Skorge, he's a repetitive sod and attacks in a pattern.

Yeah, once you figure out which one to shoot first. It wouldn't be so bad if every time you failed you weren't sent to back to do nothing except spend about a minute listening to the same bit of dialogue.

At least in this one you can skip all the dialogue, including the walk-slow-holding-on-to-your-ear bits by pressing back.

I laughed quite hard when I discovered that, and the soundclips that go along with it.

The last level was clearly for the fan boys and boring as fuck.

And too many underground levels too.

And the fight with the fish was a bit of a strange tedious boss fight...

Glass rain was aces though.

Good overall, but 10/10? No way, man.

Yup, it's good but massively overhyped. It's missing some of the tension of the first one and a lot of the criticisms already pointed out are valid - i.e. the scripting from cut scene weapon changing to spectating to there apparently being some arbitrary number of shots necessary to kill something - hell, I got killed a split second after a cutscene tonight playing CC with a friend - it smacks of lots of ambitious ideas less than thoroughly playtested. Basically you feel like you're on a ride a bit too much sometimes at the expense of the actual gameplay - it's like they went "we have to turn the story up to 11 and put loads of exciting set pieces in" which is somehow, to me at least, disengaging, fragmentary and basically just there pulling you out of the run and gun gameplay. Someone fucked up the balance on this - it could have been truly awesome but they got insecure about the merits of the gameplay being enough to carry the game and kept interrupting with "look at this, this is cool" game mechanics.

Still fun but fundamentally doesn't deliver the sense of menace or immersion the first one did.

Aye, I enjoyed that. It's also the first time I've spent more time shooting at people than sitting in matchmaking looking for a game.

I wondered where you'd disappeared to :S

Hello!

I have never played Gears of War, ever. I recently got GoW2 as a bargain. Should I play it myself in one player, or just find some lovely friendly person and co-op it? Would that lose some of the impact if the other person knew what they were doing?

Let me know.

:)

I bought this now. Limited Edition is in Game for £35 -- £5 more than the normal one, and comes in a nice steelbook, with a bunch of random DVD extras, the golden Lancer, and (the deciding factor for me) a download code for the map pack. Or do they all have that? Wasn't it only the first batch?

I think they all have it; it was more about discouraging second-hand sales than it was about encouraging people to buy the LE. But at least you've got a shiny golden Lancer out of it!

I played a good chunk of this last night with MyFinger (up to getting into the Hollow). I'm impressed; it really feels a lot bigger than Gears1.

Kaboom-tish.

I would like to co-op some Gears 2 this week with someone, and am also eager to try out the multiplayer modes.

If you steal my Perkoise from me, there'll be trouble.

I'm happy to play the multiplayer anytime you like. It's much fun.
