The forum smilies / emoticons. What do you think of them? Obviously, they are different to the ones that many of you will be familiar with, at this point. So, is it worth replacing them with some lovely new ones - or do you think they're they bees knees? Or just not care / not sure either way?

MAKE YOUR DECISION.

I don't even know what you're all on about with this MR. thing, but I think new smileys would be cool, if only because the default ones on here a bit gash when compared even to Stu's forum.

Aye.

I'm indifferent about new smilies. They're completely shit, but I don't use them, so do whatever.

Thing is, they're often used by people to say something entirely rude and then try to pretend that it was a joke by putting a winking smilie after it. Smilies = teh evilz.

Surely it's the people that do that you should dislike, not the smilies, it's not their fault they are being misused.

Mmm. Or, they're winking because they're showing you that they even LOOK like a rude cunt. Laughing right in your face. Mockingly.

I'd have thought you'd have realised that, a smart bloke like you. ;)

(with apologies)

Smileys are FUCKING SHIT.

However when emailing girls they are frequently obligatory otherwise they take offence where a bloke wouldn't.

Smilies can be helpful on some occasions. The ones on here are quite ugly though, lets get us some nice ones to suit the general excellence of the board.

I don't like the balloon shaped smileys at all. I've got emoticons turned off for my posts anyway.

Smilies are useful when your inability to make the context of your text clear.

In a way they are a white flag to incompetence. As in 'I can't be sure my meaning is clear here so I've resorted to a smilie to give the context required.'

Well at least that's how I use them. Thats why I quite like the MR I'M EXPLAINING THE CONTEXT FACE despite the fact it will get old fast. More so since I read something a while back about the % of email where the 'mood' of the email is misinterpreted.

I'm all for replacing the smilies so that they don't look quite so much like Bruce Forsyth and Jimmy Hill, just as long as there are no hideous ones like those "THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS" type ones.

Yeah, a set of tailor made smilies could be good. They used to have a brilliant one called :wickeduncle: on Way of the Rodent, but typically I can't find a picture of it.

Good idea. Dimrill, draw some now, send them to me, and I'll quickly upload and install them before anyone has a choice to voice their fair opinion.

Good work lads.

50% yes vote. Lots of peeps saying if they don't like them they turn them off (so no problem there).

That's enough call for revamped smilies yes?

I am perfectly chilled. I just want to make it clear that there are no favourites being played, just because Dimrill owns a pencil and I know his Mum.

It would be a mistake to close the poll now. It's only 11AM on the first working day of the week, and the poll only went up Sunday night. Give it 'til the end of the day or until tomorrow morning.

You're right (for some reason I thought this was brought up on Friday).

Tally up at the end of the week?

There are loads of great smilies on the web to chose from, I'm sad enough to have a very full folder of them myself.
(This is in fact because I have designed and run several forums btw, not that I just like to have..smilies..) :?

I suppose I can reveal this now that big icey drinks have been drunk by certain people. I did start working on some smilies and posted them in the mod area for people to peruse, but it almost caused world war 3 and the meltdown of brain matter. So I abandoned them. Here were the first I worked on:
smiley=Image
huge grin=Image
huger grin=Image
sad=Image
winky=Image
slightly angry=Image
angry=Image
shock=Image
wideeyes=Image
nerd=Image
and 2 I'm not that happy with because the detail's lost when reduced down to 19px
cry=Image
love=Image

HATIES more like.
