Did anyone have a flutter? I decided to have a crack at it, it was the first time I'd ever bet on the horses in my entire life. My Dad and brothers were having a go so I figured I'd join in.

I had a look through the list of horses. I know bugger all about horse racing so I didn't even bother looking at the odds or anything. I just picked a horse that had a name that struck a chord with me and put a £5 each way bet on it.

The horse I picked reminded me of ED-209 from RoboCop. You know, the whole "Put down the weapon. You have 20 seconds to comply" lark.

I picked Comply or Die.

Go me! ;)

This. Exactly this. £5 E/W on Comply or die, with Ed-209 overtones. Are you me?

I won £37 at odds of 10-1.

How did you manage that then, when I won £66.25 at 9/1?

I believe I meant £2.50 each way, so the full "doubled" amount came to £5. I spent £5.

I won £54 on the first faller, and I will have come second and third in the work sweepstake. Whoo!
Only one horse dead though - I went for three.

I nearly bet on Comply or die..then I mentioned it to Sheepeh and BAH. I didn't bet on him myself in the end.

I did get 3rd and 4th though. :)

I came 2nd in the office sweepstake. (£23.50) and put 20p (I only had £2.00 in my online bookies account) E/w on a few horses (one each for the family), only one of which finished (not in the top 4).

Still I'm up almost £20. Which paid for takeaways (spending it before I've even received my winnings!)

McKelvey, which finished second in last year's race, had to be put down after it unseated jockey Tom O'Brien at the 20th fence, then collided with a barrier and was unable to stand up.

Apparently.

The same horse nearly died in the National last year.

It's at this point I'd like to be able to say "horses dying at the Grand National is terrible and cruel"...

But I'm terrified of the things, so all I can say is "Good show, but next year, try harder. Perhaps install some sort of spinning blade arrangement at Beechers Brook. Go for 10 horse fatalities!"

I bet on about seven horses. I was very excited when my 400-1 shot was winning after about 15 fences, but then I think it remembered its place and decided to run backwards or something.

Still, I had a five on CoD (how could I not bet on a horse with that acronym?) to win, and after subtracting my losses on the other horses I'm 25 quid up.

Though I lost 15 of that by betting on United/Everton on a double today. Oops.

Omg, it was Mckelvey.
Geez, that's fucked up. A TV show has been going on about him for ages and most of the people that watched it bet on him.

No reason for the show to finish, there must be a couple more episodes available...people need to know how glue and dog food are made.
