No idea if true, not sure how I feel if it is true.

I find they are a little like Jim Carey in that I can't stand the vast majority of his work, but there are a few gems that are among some of my favourite films.

I'm hoping for the latter, but fearing the former. (If true)

The bits with Jericho, Yaz, and Dan travelling the world were brilliant, and the guru was the comic highlight.
Too many loose ends to tie up next week, and I still don't care about the Timeless Child stuff (I bet the fob watch gets destroyed/stolen/eaten by SpaceDog), but I'm having a blast and loving it.

Not my words but sums it up.

A very sombre, measured series finale (or prequel to the 2022 specials depending on one's personal opinion). It was heartbreaking for Karvanista, the loss of his race, the way Jericho stoically accepted his fate was also very moving. I think we built up the characters of Bel and Vinder to be more important than they turned out to be because the series kept us guessing to its finale and there was so many fan theories flying round the internet. I do think they might return to the Whoniverse as is the case with the Grand Serpent.
We needed some humour and we got that with our chocoholic Sontaran caught with his hand in the sweet jar.

Hmmm.. mixed bag this one. It was fast paced, and after a long day of board gaming it was fun to unwind to.

Stuff I liked:

Jericho's dignified ending
The Sontaran Sugar Solution
The triple Doctor - worked really well storywise and was fun to see the Doc's vanity manifest itself
Bell and Vinder got their happy ending

Stuff I didn't like
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So the Flux was sucked into Passenger, which is great, but, er, does that mean the universe
SpaceDog got over his post-genocide traumatic stress pretty quickly. But we didn't see it happen, and would have been just as acceptable for that line to have been a Sontaran mind trick and not kill the dogs.
I'd like to see the Ruth Doctor again but I'm glad the fob watch was thrown into the depths of the Tardis and hopefully we'll never get any more origin stories again.
Oh, and just a little thing, which probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things and all, but even though all the little lights of the Flux was swallowed up by Passenger, there's still the problem that 99.9% of the universe is missing.

I hope there's a SpaceDog spin-off in the works.

I enjoyed that. An interesting piece of plotting with a satisfying solution. It was fun, and that's all I really need this time of year.

I've never liked the gemstone Tardis, and was quite annoyed that it kept that look after rebuilding itself.

A few clunky lines, especially regarding Yaz's crush, but nothing that took me out of the moment. Not sure Daleks should be given exposition, however - they struggle with any material longer than a simple imperative.

Legend of the Sea Devils

I was away over the weekend and didn't even realise there was an Easter special until it appeared on the front page of the Iplayer. Which is probably just as well, given how much of an utter mess it is.

It's certainly a visual treat, with lavish historical sets and costuming, although the sci-fi bits looked like they'd been hauled from O'Brien-era Crystal Maze and were a heck of let down compared to the rest of the design.

There's definitely good ideas here, but no actual development or progression but just endless jumps from issue to resolution to another issue to another resolution. It's as if someone just had to idea to take one of the long serials from the classic series and chop together the first and last 3 minutes of each episode. Kids probably won't care about this and just enjoy the spectacle (pirate ships! sword fights! cannonballs!) but it left me a bit empty.

The highlight was the single best pun I've heard on TV all year:

It’s always been really variable in quality. There are some superb episodes, some absolute shite, and a bunch of “ok” in the middle. It gets treated with far more lenience than most other shows would be, for reasons….

Capaldi didn’t get many great stories to work with, and Whittaker hasn’t had any that I can remember.

Sacha Dhawan stole the show. His performance was superb: batshit malevolence at its finest. And having him play Rasputin was a genius idea, and a worryingly plausible explanation for the Mad Monk's grip on the Romanovs. But it was topped by his musical number.

I felt the initial meeting of the Doc with Tegan and Ace lacked the emotional impact of when 10 met Sarah-Jane, but it was fun seeing them and both were clearly relishing the roles, especially Sophie Aldred. The interaction with their holographic Doctors was charming.

UNIT remains a dysfunctional organisation and toxic workplace.

In the dream sequence, I squeed when 8 appeared, and loved his comment that he doesn't do robes. For someone with about five minutes of screen time in the entire run of NuWho, it's amazing how dam good McGann is as the Doc, and how we need that Eighth Doctor spin-off.

No Space Dog, alas, but the Ruth Doctor was remains a commanding force even as a hologram.

And I'm still reeling from the ending. Totally unexpected.

I enjoyed it a lot and I've been slowly falling out of love with Who since the middle of Matt Smith's run.

The bump in SFX quality is quite a thing. You can really see where the Disney money is going. I reckon the days of wobbly sets and improvised costumes have been behind us for a while now, but the CGI in the latest episode is bloody seamless.

The bad guys were genuinely threatening and harkened back nicley to one of my favourite episodes: Midnight.

I've heard that the handover from 14 to 15 is going to be a bit more Timey-Wimey than usual, so I'm looking forward to that.

One more thing: Hoping that Jodie doesn't become persona non grata after this. It'd be great to see her get involved in some specials or anniversaries in the future. It's be great to see Capaldi in the role again, now I think of it

The Christmas special is his first full episode but he appeared in this one. And has a bigger role than the incoming Doctor normally does in a regeneration episode.
