It's all right. Some of the second episode was proper old who. The robots standing around that hatch was very reminiscent of older episodes. The foreshadowing of the main baddies was good. But some bits seemed unneeded, the ending was just pointless, and the instant transport of the two winners ridiculous, as was threatening the main guy and him capitulating.

6/10 for me.

The Rosa Parks episode pulls few punches and some scenes were quite uncomfortable to watch in parts. Probably deserves a rewatch to fully take it all in. The Doctor's utter disgust of segregation and having to tacitly endorse it whilst in Montgomery was very well-played. Rosa Parks came across as very strong-willed.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
One issue I see coming up, and why I want to rewatch, is about whether the plot inadvertantly denies Rosa her full agency - ie, that the Doctor and the gang set her up to do it rather than her making the stand herself. I don't think it does, as her character is established early on.

Also, the monster of the week being blasted to the past is obviously a seed for something.

Definitely one that's going to be rewatched and written about a lot more than the first two. An excellent episode.

Yeah that was much better. Obviously the subject matter is something that's interesting and important to me, but possibly the best historical episode of Doctor Who I've seen (and I've seen a lot!)

Jodie and the gang continue to be excellent.

I really liked that episode.

Very well played out, and the effects on the ‘coloured’ part of the gang was awful.

Quite powerful, will be watching again later.

Watched Episode 5 (lost count!) last night.

I enjoyed the performances of both the main and supporting casts, and rather liked the idea of a cute but ravenous monster, but felt the directing left me without any sense of urgency regarding the situation.

I enjoyed it. Nice sci-fi romp with an Asian Jake Gyllenhall.

About that... does it seem to anyone else that everyone in the new series aside from Graham and The Doctor are Persons of Colour?

Edit: Apart from the evil white racists in episode 2, natch.

When they did the list of upcoming guest stars at the end of episode 1 it did seem that white people were in the minority. I can’t say it bothered me but it did look like there might have been a conscious decision behind it.

It’s possible to note these things without it being a rant about poor oppressed white men.

I can understand it, as you can see from my post above. People have grown up with Doctor Who*. They love it. They want it to always be the same. But it can't be the same, as the world has changed. Sadly, as evidenced in the Capaldi years, it's difficult to portray a message of diversity and inclusion when the message is coming from the mouth of middle aged white dudes. Hence, Jodie. I love Jodie. She may just be my favourite Doctor ever. She's utterly nonthreatening until she's not. She's got a steel behind her eyes that prevents disagreement. And she doesn't kill people.

And she has rainbow on her t-shirt. I mean c'mon! Are they trying to piss off the gammons? Of course they are. Long may it continue.

So do I, and I don't have any memories of Doctor Who as a kid. I guess I was classing formative years as early teenage. I remember things like ST:TNG and Quantum Leap being much more important to me than crappy cheap old wobbly set Who.
