I seem to remember she was very good in Attack the Block but I've never watched broadchurch.
Anyway, it's worth it just to see the absolute fury from Internet mouth breathers.

As far as I'm aware the Doctor hasn't saved the universe with his penis, so it's absence for a few years won't make any difference.

I'm generally outraged because The Doctor can only regenerate twelve times, right?

What excuse did they use?

John Hurt means that Capaldi is the 13th incarnation, so this actually *could* be a significant plot point to be addressed.

Rumour has it that with this regeneration they're going to completely reboot the whole canon.

//edit: I can't believe I just wrote something about canon. I feel dirty.

Although I don't watch Doctor Who and don't really know Jodie Whittaker apart from she was apparently in a Black Mirror episode that I would have seen her in, it's amusing to read the bizarre Twitter comments on it all. Surely a character like Doctor Who means you can have fun with it and experiment with new directions for the character and show.

Your information is out of date. Regenerations as follows:

1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
WAR
9
10
10 (aborted regeneration but used up its energy)
11

Those are the 13 original incarnations used. He was given an extra 13 by the Time Lords at the end of 11's tenure. So 12 is his 14th and 13 will be his 15th. It's all very simple.

Don't forget the Master has used up all his regenerations at least twice now from what I can remember. :)

"13 regenerations at most? They told us that at school to make sure we paid attention at swimming lessons. It's been a Time Lord joke for generations"

Problem solved.

I don't really mind who plays Who.

That's impressive information :) Watched this show a lot when Tom Baker was the Dr but never much since then. Did try the new show and it's not bad, just never enough time to watch everything.

Nah. Meant to watch it, then everyone said the second series was rubbish so it went lower down the priority list.

There's a lot of Broflake* commenters on Mail Online and the like but I haven't seen many objectionable tweets being retweeted into my timeline for mocking purposes so I'm actually thinking it's not as big a deal as I feared.

Obviously my timeline is an echo chamber but it also features much hilarity at the expense of the likes of Prison Planet and Fox news and other cry babies about progress so I do get to see that stuff.

* Saw that yesterday from Brianna Wu and loved it.

You know what, I'd completely forgotten about Captain Janeway. Not that I didn't enjoy the programme, I did, but I'd forgotten about it because it didn't matter in the slightest whether it was a man or woman in charge.

I'm really pleased with the decision to cast a female Doctor. Unreal how it has upset so many over on the Twitter.

I'll still not watch it just as much.

I have also taken your point.

On a serious note, as the father of two girls I'm really pleased to see a female Doctor. As a fan, it changes nothing. As long as the programme is entertaining then I shall continue to watch it.

Does it actually change nothing? I've not watched it since Ace was in it, so I have no idea.

I suppose it does change in that each new Doctor has a different personality so I guess I'm wrong there. What I probably meant say was that it doesn't negatively effect the programme.
