This.

Peter Capaldi is ultra scary whenever he plays evil. Definitely the highlight of the episode.

There are some animations of them as well - let me dig out the Missy / 12 video

Not sure why it is but this season hasn't felt as compelling to me as previous Capaldi seasons.

Weird. I think it's much better.

Mostly because it's more about the Doctor, and not the Clara Show, occasionally featuring the bumbling doctor.

'Empress of Mars'. Pretty unmemorable standard 'Doctor Who', not offensively bad like that moon-is-in-egg atrocity, but not standout either. As a homage to old Who, it might do well with nostalgia glasses on but other than the Ice Warrior's novel technique for folding clothes, it's not one I think I'll return to, even if they did have Enfield muskets.

Well, there was one jaw-dropping brilliant moment:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The stare between Missy and the Doc in the Tardis right at the end was ominous and scary.

I agree. Brain candy. Suffered from a lack of Lucas, but monster costumes pleasingly crap.

Post subject:  Re: Doctor Who

I enjoyed this week's more than last week's. An enjoyably self-contained story, and I'm sure that watching it on a dark night would make the monster even scarier. I don't really like tentacles. The crows having a sulk was fun, and Nardole was brilliant as usual. Romans are cool and always a welcome addition to anything (see also bears; helicopters; muskets) but I liked how they used young actors to portray them as that felt more in line with the 'just like children' theme and more realistic anyway. Bill's genre-savvyiness was in full flow as she worked out the language translation gubbins, and the whole lip-sync thing was something I hadn't picked up on before.

Might have to rewatch the mini-episode at the end as preparation for the finale.

I thought that was really good too. This series is consistently knocking it out of the park. I hope they keep Nardole around, Lucas has impressed me, his delivery is masterful.

Missy has been great too.

Just caught up on the last two. This series has been a slow burner for me - and I came in half way through. But that was great. Especially the bit about kids, and the crows. Great!

One is older and one is younger, they just happen to be in the same time and place. (Assuming you mean the Master and Missy meeting?)

Usually something's gone very wrong for it to happen though. Usually they can't cross their own timestream.

I think I need to stop watching them altogether. I never watch it if it's a cliffhanger, but usually watch the trailer for the next week just to wet the appetite. The big reveal would have been better if we didn't know who was coming back, but that had been talked about in the pre-series publicity. Admittedly, I didn't work out who it was but even knowing it's coming takes a bit of the edge of.

Post subject:  Re: Doctor Who

Rewatched it yesterday. So many good things.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
- It took the second viewing to get the 'knock yourself out' gag
- The Master's flirting with Missy was charmingly disgusting
- The mirror reveal for Bill was uncomfortable enough, but the shadow on the wall was even scarier
- Normally not happy about the Doc indulging in mass extermination but given the situation and his warning that they'd changed from wanting to 'help' to attacking on a military footing made sense. Ish.
- Missy laid out like Ophelia. Nice touch.
- Every scene with John Simm in it.
- The end. I was hoping for a surprise introduction to the new doc, but the old one will do (DB was excellent in 'An Adventure in Time and Space'). Only regret is that we'll probably know all about the next doctor (please be Gaywood) long before the actual regeneration
- The Doc's speech about doing the right thing in front of Missy and the Master. Love it when Capaldi gets to do those kinds of things.
- Yeah, I don't care how contrived it was, I liked that Bill got an afterlife with the puddle lady
- Loved the cameos of the ex-companions. Shame 12 never got to meet Jack
- And more.

In short, it was a great end to an excellent series.

At the end of Newsnight last night, they said that Phoebe Waller Bridge (the very funny lady from Fleabag) is a shoe in and she may have accidentally confirmed (by very awkwardly dodging the question and saying she can't talk about it) it in a Vlog. She was already the bookies favourite but before that had vigorously denied it. Which is good news, but also potentially means no more Fleabag, which is not such good news.
