The second episode was ace. The girl's wardrobe is bloody crap, tbough. I loved the robots. Robot ribot robot.

The London one was pretty good, apart frim the drenchi g at the end.

Way better so far than with Clara.

It reminds me, ever so slightly, of Ace. I need to watch more of her adventures with the Seventh Doc as the ones I've seen have been very enjoyable (and I think I ever so distantly remember watching some when I was young).

Also available with "3D" binaural audio: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0 ... nock-knock

Haven't listened to that yet, but can imagine int works well; it sounded grand in 5.1 - the knocking was coming from all over the place.

Would have been better if it hadn't been a very similar plot to the episode earlier in the series. But it just felt like a total retread of the last time they went into space.

In particular, the telegraphing of evil sinister mega corporation from the moment that they arrived, and yet the Doctor only working out that the issue was being deliberately caused by the evil sinister mega corporation right at the end was bullshit

The vault is the laziest story arc in the history of story arcs. 30 seconds at the beginning and end of each episode to say that something big is coming, and nothing about it in the episode itself.

I'm quite bored of zombies now, so was relieved when they weren't technically undead but just the remains of the suits' inhabitants. The story was ok, but nothing too great, but I think 13 year old me would have responded more to the deft political points than my current cynical self. I would probably think more of the episode had not the smiley robot killers used the same magic haddock plot so recently. As is customary, I cheered when the sonic screwdriver was destroyed. Also..

Hope the Doc's blindness becomes a thing for the whole series. That could add a whole level of intrigue.

I'm annoyed with myself for not leaving the room when the credits came on with no 'next time' trailer as that normally means there's huge spoilers to follow, so I've ruined the next bit for myself by watching it. Careless.

Yeah, that one wasn't so good. Enjoyed Matt Lucas and Dr Who bitching at each other, but otherwise, quite meh. The ending was quite comic book-y with the reveal, so that was probably a plus point.

So we haven't watched this series, but we turned on the last five minutes as we were watching whatever came on afterwards. Not knowing any of the plot or things that had happened I obviously am not in a position to comment, but the ending dialogue was just... awful.

It was like watching a child's stage play.

- "Look at me!"
- "No, you don't understand, I can't look at anything. I'm still BLIND!"
<Dramatically takes of sunglasses and stares at audience>
<Imagined audience gasp>

This! Probably true for all the Doctors. Even if the story's crap the lead generally gets some good lines. I've not yet reached the point I did with Sharpe where anytime Sean Bean wasn't on screen I kind of tuned out.

Very much this. A great mystery, very many standout moments:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
- Laughed out loud when the Pope interrupted Bill's date.
- The party at Cern was disturbingly bleak.
- Good to hear Descartes' evil demon referenced.
- Missy was excellent, as always. And the look of fear on the master of ceremonies when he asked for Doctor's kill count.
- Also, David Archer was the voice of the monks.

Weird. I think it's much better.

Mostly because it's more about the Doctor, and not the Clara Show, occasionally featuring the bumbling doctor.

'Empress of Mars'. Pretty unmemorable standard 'Doctor Who', not offensively bad like that moon-is-in-egg atrocity, but not standout either. As a homage to old Who, it might do well with nostalgia glasses on but other than the Ice Warrior's novel technique for folding clothes, it's not one I think I'll return to, even if they did have Enfield muskets.

Well, there was one jaw-dropping brilliant moment:

I agree. Brain candy. Suffered from a lack of Lucas, but monster costumes pleasingly crap.

Post subject:  Re: Doctor Who

I enjoyed this week's more than last week's. An enjoyably self-contained story, and I'm sure that watching it on a dark night would make the monster even scarier. I don't really like tentacles. The crows having a sulk was fun, and Nardole was brilliant as usual. Romans are cool and always a welcome addition to anything (see also bears; helicopters; muskets) but I liked how they used young actors to portray them as that felt more in line with the 'just like children' theme and more realistic anyway. Bill's genre-savvyiness was in full flow as she worked out the language translation gubbins, and the whole lip-sync thing was something I hadn't picked up on before.

Might have to rewatch the mini-episode at the end as preparation for the finale.

I thought that was really good too. This series is consistently knocking it out of the park. I hope they keep Nardole around, Lucas has impressed me, his delivery is masterful.
