I love Robin Williams a whole heap. I've always really loved his stand-up and his improvisation work, and I felt really quite upset when he booked into re-hab after his alcoholism made another appearance.

I love that he loves animation and gaming, is so quick witted and open and just so exhaustingly physical in hs stage presence.

Anyway, I just saw that he was on the latest episode of Graham Norton (iPlayer link, in case anyone wants to watch!), and seems to be back on track.

So, feelings on Robin Williams, anyone?

Also: I have always said that Robin Williams looks like Bono. Everyone says no.

By the way, Robin Williams is the whole hour-long guest on G. Norton, and more or less takes over so Norton's presence doesn't rankle too much for those who don't care for him.

For some reason I feel I would/should hate Robin Williams for the way he goes on but I find him so utterly watchable and compelling. I saw a fair bit of the graham norton stuff last night and even though alot of his funny talk is pretty basic impressions I still like to watch him go on.

I've liked him loads for years, he's great, though I can imagine that prolonged exposure would be hazardous. He was on the prince charles's's 600th birthday the other day. Disappointingly non-irreverent with it, mind - I kind of hoped he'd do something the daily mail would get really upset about. Although he did give a royal wave with one hand while grabbing his crotch with the other, which might help.

The annoying thing is he was in town to do a couple of shows in the West End. Robin WIlliams stand up would be life threateningly funny I suspect, so I'm pissed off that I only found out about it 3 days before the actual dates. I mean, this isn't Dickie Henderson here - Robin Williams, doing twofucking nights in the West End with 3 days notice. Did I get tickets? No.

Graham Norton is ONLY acceptable to me as the butt of cruel jokes in episodes of Father Ted.

Oh, Graham Norton. I thought Rodafowa was irritated by Williams. Norton doesn't get in the way too much because Williams has such a big personality. I think the same is true on the couple of occasions when Norton has interviewed Dustin Hoffman. I don't like Norton much, either, but I thought it was worth it to see Robin Williams, who I like very much.

He was quite amusing at first (GN) but then Channel 4 decided to have him on EVERY NIGHT for what seemed like 5 years.

Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poest Socity, Aladdin, One Hour Photo, Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, Hook, The World According to Garp, I liked him in all of these films, more which I can't remember. I even liked What Dreams May Come, though it seems I am the only person who did.

The only film with him in that I didn't enjoy was Flubber.

Both, I'm afraid. With all due respect to Jim Carrey and Mike Myers Doing A Scottish Accent, it's hard to think of anyone with a more grating screen-presence than either Williams or Norton.

Being quite funny that one time in Aladdin / Father Ted doesn't make up for years of gurning, manipulative mawkishness / shrill, giggling campness-for-the masses. Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate.

All good films, except Patch Adams and Good Will Hunting.

One Hour Photo was particularly good, taking him, as it did, away from the usual comic role. Garp was just brilliant.

Jumanji was aces, too.

He was quite good in Good Will Hunting. Only because he wasn't acting the twat.

Indeed. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

What was that film where he was in Alaska or somewhere, and there was a murder, or something? It had one of those interchangeable Italian American actors - Pacino or the fat one.

I actually really like Patch Adams, it's just a nice, feel-good film, also it is based on a true story and real man who founded the Gesundheit Hospital Hunter Patch Adams. It's a sweet film, though.

I don't think that people ginerally think that What dreams May Come is rubbish, Malc, rather many people do not like it. It is rather surreal and harrowing.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The end up 'in' a lot of famous paintings by people like Heironymous Bosch, after a terible string of personal tragedies. his children die in a car crash, he dies, wife commits suicide. he is in heaven which is comprised of his ideas of famous paintings, because his wife is a gallery curator, life there is beautiful, he finds his children. His wife commits suicide and so ends up in hell. This is no the fire and brimstone kind of movie hell. it is something... else. Anyway, it is harrowing in places, but also unbelievably beautiful and delicate in places, too.

Not one to watch if you are depressed though, perhaps.

I've not seen Insomnia. I heard it was good, but then one of those awful top 100 films programmes on channel four ruined the ending about three seconds after naming it. Tossers.

I like What Dreams May Come. Loved it, in fact, though it was bookended by some really awful sacchariney shite and the ending was way too much of a cop-out for me.
