Hello all

My job involves lots of time to listen to stuff on the interweb, and naturally you end up listening to podcasts.

Currently the roster for the week is:
Fighting Talk http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/ft/
Guardian football podcast
606 (Danny Baker edition) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/606/
The Bugle (Times Online's only good podcast) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/the_bugle/
Lazlow show http://www.lazlow.com/the_lazlow_show/
and random Radio4/BBC7 comedy stuff.

Now, can anyone recommend some more to fill the gaps of the day? Any suggestions would be most helpful cos.

Stephen Fry, Jimmy Carr, and if you're into Sci-fi Escape Pod has some good stories.

I used to enjoy the Chris Moyles podcast. His entire weeks work, squashed into one hour was almost just enough to put up with.

Did you hear the one where they had Carrie running on the treadmill to make her sound sexy? Goodness me, but that was good listening.

Escape Pod's sister site Psuedo Pod often has some decent horror tales on it as well...and isn't there a fantasy version as well now?

Kemode is obviously a must as well.

Real Time with Bill Maher is quite good.

The Bugle irritated me, TBH.

Yeah, Podcastle. I always found Psuedopod quite dull.

If you do like Sci-fi / fantasy stuff, try to get all of the "Union Dues" stories from Escape Pod - by Christ they're good.

Movies You Should See is alright, if you can put up with the fuck-annoying Northern "better than everyone" cunt woman who feels the need to shit uninformed crap over the microphone every now and then.
But they are funny, especially the Ferris Bueller one. Kung Fu Torrets!

Seconded. It's also (deliberately) the most unprofessionally recorded podcast out there - most weeks start with Andrew Collins saying something like "is it on?" and end partway through a sentence just after Richard Herring complains that he's got other things to get on with.

After that and the mighty Guardian Football Weekly, the Adam and Joe 6Music podcast along with One Life Left usually complete my weekly list of podgrams.

The Ray Peacock Podcast is often the funniest thing I listen to all week: http://www.chortle.co.uk/raypeacock/

Start with either the best of season 1 or at the start of a series though, so you get the ongoing jokes... a new series is starting on Monday so it's a good time to hop on board.

I actually think his radio show is very good - can't stand him presenting things though.

I couldn't get on with Collings and Herrin at all. I gave it about three months and it was intermittently amusing, but it wasn't worth wading through over an hour of rotten audio quality and Andrew Collins' incredibly annoying voice to get to the odd good bits.

This is another one of those where I'm reasonably sure it's me that's broken, not the source material since loads of clever, funny people seem to really like it, but eh.

That podcast is probably my favorite. But I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't put up with it, it's basically them talking drivel. Richard really doesn't put any effort into it, and as you say, Andrew Collings's voice can get a bit boring, so it's not something you can put on and expect to be entertained.

Just occasionally though it breaks into pure, spontaneous genius and you end up in spasms of laughter. So, y'know, keep watching :)

That's basically what I think about the Ricky Gervais podcasts, except they're pretty much consistently hilarious all the way through. I know it's cool to hate him now though.

I've become quite partial to Keith & The Girl -- it goes through spates of navel gazing as the regulars fall out, fight, divorce etc but is fairly regularly excellent. Any episode with Patrice is a safe bet.

For my geeky fix I like StackOverflow.

Hmm... you've hit most of my other regulars I think. Twitch Asylum has 'faded', as I believe the term to be, but has some nicely researched retro stuff; For no reason I gave 12 Byzantine Rulers a whirl and thoroughly enjoyed it bar the first episode; Oh and there's always Movies You Should See. S'all.

This would probably be a good time to plug my podcast. There's only 3 episodes, 3 is probably the best. It's supposed to be monthly, but we've now missed 2 episodes. Ep4 should be out on the 11th of March.

I'm not convinced it's any good, but I am at least pleased with the music at the end. It's just about the only thing I've recorded in about 5 years.

I have an idea for a Podcast. I'd call it "Angry Gamer" and it would be half hour of someone ranting about the state of the modern games industry once a month. It would have to be a paid for podcast (just £2 per month), to cover the cost of a Chinny Production [tm] but I can't for the life of me identify someone who would be suitable to write and present it.

My other idea is simply called "Craster's Badgerwatch".

I'd be curious to know exactly what there is to be so angry about. Not £2 a month curious, mind.

Arise from the dead, I command thee.

Fear my acebest necromancy skills.

Having enjoyed all the Escape pod sites, I've also found a couple more audio fiction sites as well.

http://dunesteef.com/

A new piece of speculative fiction each week and then a discussion on writing and which geeky films they've seen in the week. The fiction pieces are often more complex productions than the Escape Pod stuff with mutiple narrators and sound effects.

http://www.starshipsofa.com/

An Audio Sci Fi Magazine with fiction, reviews and factual articles.

http://welltoldtales.com/

A collection of Audio and text tales. All genre fiction of the 'pulp' type be it Crime, Horror or Sci Fi.

There's an awesome* episode of Starship Sofa where one of the fellas rambles at some length about how he used to "go around settin' fires, like" (<-paraphrase).

*EDIT: To clarify, it's awesomely funny how he has to keep returning to the subject, like a rather inappropriate scratch he just has to itch. Fires are bad m'kay?

This isn't a podcast, and I last listened to it about 3 years ago, but Professor Dum Dum's Lab, on WFMU, should be worth a listen. I just googled it and noticed he's back on the air, so I'm going to get the latest one now, hope it's as good as I remember..

The show is a mix of "black metal", somewhat crazy rants from the Professor and hilarious phone-ins from the baffled local population (and wider world). DIMRILLS MIGHT LIKE IT

QuadNation Radio used to be good. It's no longer "on the air" and has never been "on the air" since the word "podcast" was invented

Now technically a Podcast (well, it's an MP3 you can download, but I don't think it's on iTunes), but: Serafinowicz and Popper's Radio Spiritworld is half an hour of understated niceness.

How did we get this far without me mentioning the One Life Left podcast/radio show? I'm sure you've all heard enough from me about this by now though. The only podcast to feature my amazing Free Market Economy productions and the new exciting feature Week O Wiki Wah Wah by my friend Duncan. And lots of great chiptune music as well of course.

Thread necromancy!

Found this by random (as a rule I can't stand the Smodcast stuff, even though I like Kevin Smith's films) it's a podcast series specifically about Batman. The two podcasts with Mark Hamill (2 & 3) are brilliant, Hamill's enthusiasm for The Joker and comics in general is almost overwhelming...also he is a brilliant mimic.
