That's a shame. It was quite a good turnout last night and some good racing fun. So next week eh?

Yeah, need more practice, I was very rusty last night.

Still good fun though.

We should do a theme for next week, eh? How about buying a class F car and tuning it to A?

Yeah, pre-1990 and in the style of a hotrod. Then it's another excuse to use my awesome Datsun 510.

OK, hotrods next week.
It might be fun to start off with the car as stock and upgrade one thing every race.

Hot rods then.

So, pre 1990 class Fs tuned up to A (and painted, obv)

Yes painted, preferably with flames, although eagles or skulls and suchlike are acceptable.

I did enjoy the racing last night, especially since I was drunk, and went up about five levels during the course of play!

My favourite moment was taking the lead on one course, with everyone else close behind... and then forgetting to turn at the first corner, and watching everyone else just follow me head on into the wall, as they just assumed I knew where I was going.

And then it happening again on the following lap, meaning I somehow won.

:D

You literally beat us at our own game.

Bungling the lobby controls meant I reset the evening's totals just after you joined so you finished well ahead in the points despite only taking part in about 3 races :)

Also, bonus bananas to whoever responded when I asked, "How do I change the view mode" by saying "Press X" (which is the handbrake). It worked, you fiend!

My favourite moment (and slightly guilty moment) was smashing into Zardoz on the Nurburgring. He'd crashed and we were in these insanely fast cars (I didn't blink for literally the entire lap for fear of crashing). He literally just appeared in front of me and I smashed straight past and carried on to victory. I did feel slightly guilty stealing his victory but since I had no warning it was about to happen, meh.

Also me pretending to be Michael Knight. Or the stock car race where I couldn't find a car so used a red Audi Quattro instead.

I quite enjoyed the race at Suzuka where I think it was kalmar in a lotus and you in a subaru battling at the front. I caught you both up on three separate occasions only to spin off. I think you must have then spun leaving kalmar out front who I managed to reel in again only to nearly follow him straight off the track.

I think it was Mark who you smashed into Chinny.

You smashed in to me (and Kalmar) and vice versa in the Supacorsa race.

No, I was at the back of the nerdring race pretty much from the start. I remember hearing chinny apologising to someone though.

I think it was Zaphod he smashed.

I struggled a bit in that race! Had a collision with a barrier which left the back wheels off the ground and nothing I did would un-stick it, so had to sit the last few minutes out...

Sounds like you had a good turnout. I only finished revising at about 9ish and it was too much effort to set up my wheel and stuff.

Next week!

It was Zaphod.

And like Zaphod you also pulled out in front of me!

I did keep on smashing people off on Silverstone though as people kept on braking for the second (non existent) corner. I know from my F1GP days that you only just need to ease the throttle through there. However everyone else kept braking in front of me ruining my line.

I also rolled a Range Rover 5 times.

It was me - in general i found i tended to lose races by being bumped out the way rather than anything else - and you then end up facing the wrong way and spending ages to get back round.

I was disapointed when i found out i couldnt go the wrong way round and hit people head on :-)

Oh and Chinny remember if you have them on the car will autobreak when you pass a 'red' patch on the path so for things like that 2nd corner my car would break by itself even if i have my finger down on the throttle

When someone said that i pressed what I thought was the change view button (right bumper) and it changed so I was wondering why someone said X but just ignored it :-)

Who the hell has auto-break on?

I use a bunch of the assists, but that one's just taking the piss!

I swear it turned itself on for me when I did a race the other night. Did one race, no autobraking. Changed car, did another race, and autobraking was on. Hadn't changed settings once.

I have not touched any of the settings - i was looking at them last night and found that autobrake is on by default - so for the races i did last night i had autobreak 'on'

I'll install it tonight (which means you can pick the other racecourses which i couldnt join) and have a look to see what assists i can turn off.

Damnit.

I wanted to be around for this. When's the next evening of racing?

And I believe driver assists should be ABS and autobox only. Just to add my $0.02 to the discussion.

There used to be a regular Wednesday evening sesh. I think this is the first in a while but it's hoped that it will become regular again.

It's all very well stating preferences for assists, but people's abilities vary greatly. I race the MS wheel and usually only use ABS. I regularly do badly online but I enjoy it more.

My only input is for slightly longer races and taking some time to pick the right car to suit the track, or at least performance wise. I'm not a big fan of shopping cars on wide open fast race tracks as it feels like you're watching paint dry. I also prefer longer races of at least 5 laps otherwise it doesn't give you a chance to recover if you get shunted at the first corner which is a quite common occurrence at these meets.

Driving assists are for fannies; learn to drive or GTFO. ;)

I also prefer longer races, DB. There's a lot more tension in a joust for position over a number of laps. Also if you get shunted off on the first corner you can take some pride from battling your way back up to fourth.

My feeling is that it's better just to let people use whatever they're used to, we're all at different levels and after all many of the cars featured have traction and stability controls. Apart from ABS you should be faster without the assists anyway so it's not really an unfair advantage.

What I do think would be good is if we could find some agreeable cars and tracks and stick to them for a bit. At the moment we tend to change it up after every race and so people spend the whole game finding their braking points etc which can lead to a lot of crashes and not so much close racing.

Definitely this too. Short races don't encourage patience with picking appropriate places to pass people.

Just to remind the Gentleman racers that it's a Hotrod themed night tomorrow (among other races).

So buy, paint and mod a pre 1990s Class F car up to Class A.

Yes yes. I don't really have time to play this prior to The Racing Night though, so my car is going to be a last minute job.

It's why I suggested upgrading them as we go along on the night but I suspect that would only suit me :)

Arses. I can't play again. That theme sounds aces, getting a shite car and "maxxing" it. Enjoy. Damn you all.

Might pop along for the tail end of this, but haven't played the single player enough to be able to mod a car. Hopefully by the time I log on we'll be racing normal thingies.
