Finished Silicon Valley last night.

Feel rather bereft. I think it still had track to run. The end of this series felt rushed, but it was a decent finale, tied things up sensibly and trod the right line between comedy and sentimentality.

Still gutted it's over, but at least it went out without going off the boil.

The Witcher is out!
I'm halfway through episode 1!
Unsurprisingly, despite the hype, despite the "new GoT" talk, it's utter shite!

Honestly I’ve so much to watch that if this is true it’ll be a relief.

I've carried on and got to episode 3, which is actually passable. They have found some people who can act a bit.

It's basically Arrow compared to Daredevil in terms of a comparison to GoT.

This Watchmen thing is pretty darn great. I’m not familiar with the comic book but I really enjoyed the movie. I’m only about 4 episodes in and I can’t fathom whether the film is canon. There as something about a giant squid but I heard that this only happens in the comic book so probably not then. But the cinematography is very similar to the film and looks like it could just follow on from the film so, y’know, it’s confusing as someone who doesn’t follow some comic from years ago. Still though, it’s been really great and probably has lots of Easter eggs and shit for nerds mainly cause some stuff is shown or talked about or someone referenced and doesn’t make a single bit of sense to me.

It's very much true to the comic and the film is not treated as canon.

The only difference between the film and comic though is the giant squid I think?

For me the big difference is

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
If Dr Manhatten is blamed in Ozymandias' ploy, then you wouldn't end up with law enforcement happily working alongside masked heroes. The Keele act would still be in play (one presumes in the TV universe, it has been repealed) and the masked heroes would be criminals.

b) TV spoiler
c) film spoiler?

The movie is also kinda made by someone who loved the comic whilst also not understanding it. The flashy action especially is kind of ridiculous, but a lot of the characterisation lacks nuance or depth.

For me, it's like the TV show treats the comic book as what really happened, and the movie like a Hollywood movie based on the true story.

I think you really should read the comic before you read the TV show, but if you're not going to read the book, the movie will suffice.

The ending is the biggest plot difference, but it's also just a fairly shallow movie. Some good performances though.

Episode 5 was great.

How are they doing Glass’ mask though? A mix of CG and practical perhaps? I’d be amazed if it’s all CG but, whatever is going on, it’s such a striking look and he’s a really enjoyable character to watch.

One episode of The Mandalorian left.

The last two episodes were good, with the most recent one picking up strands from the previous episodes and bringing them all together. It’s nothing earth-shattering but it’s fun and I REALLY want to see the final episode like RIGHT NOW YOU BASTARDS!

Mandalorian continues to be thoroughly excellent - it's a brilliantly pitched bit of Space Western (bleurghs are definitely Space Horses), and is now my second favourite Star Wars thing after Rogue One. Excellent entrance for Giancalo Esposito in Ep7 and we can't wait for Ep8.

Mr Robot: Done.

That was some pretty high concept TV right there. The type of stuff that you don’t see much of any more. A single story told from beginning to end. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout, great cinematography, an amazing ensemble of talented actors and not a single twatty lightsaber on display to get people spaffing their britches.

Game of Thrones ending is looking really fucking dumb right now after the care and attention that clearly went into this labour of love.

Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

So I’ve finished Watchmen and it got worse as it went on unfortunately. Angela starts off as a cool character, she’s a brawler and demonstrates that she doesn’t take no shit, but then by the last 3 episodes it’s all pregnant pauses to camera and gurning. She went from my favourite character to the one I was least interested in.

The ending was straight out of a comic book with the bad guys getting destroyed and the hero’s walking away with minimal scratches. As the squids started to fall so did my interest...Yeah, someone dies but they were pretty bland anyway.

Weirdly Dr Manhattan as well has always struck me as a real fucking horn dog. He’s got all these powers and he just wants to fuck. I’d suggest he puts it in his pants but he rarely wears them. And did you see the size of his flaccid blue dong!? It was like a blue kebab.

It’s a shame that the best characters were the baddies and they aren’t around no mo for more stuff. Their motivation being relegated to: I want all the power.

Overall a grand spanking ‘pretty good’/10. As these superhero things go I enjoyed The Boys more.

I’m sure those people who love the comics utterly loved it but I couldn’t help feel that the money that went into making this should have gone elsewhere to make something more original that would have been equally as good, if not better, when freed of the baggage of the source material.

It sagged a bit in the middle episodes but they tied all the characters together nicely in the last two eps.

First season of Succession was very good. It started off as a hard slog since the cunty cruelty to Kendal was so long and sustained that it was quite difficult to watch and you wanted the cunty dad to get a reet good kicking. It’s a great cast but they all play cunts so it takes 6 episodes and the Prague episode before there’s any real levity to the cuntishness. Thankfully, by then, the cuntyness is more nuanced and the characters start to form around the cuntastrophy.

Cunt/10

Watched the first episode of the Witcher. Does it get any better? A lot of the acting wasn't great, and what was going in was a bit unclear at times, as people were mumbling. Witcher Guy wasn't convincing delivering his lines.

Last season was really good. In fact, it’s been really consistent since the beginning but I just wish they’d lay off the wider crime stories that they try and tell like Fingus (Figus? I don’t know), Madeleine and all those other ones. It’s strength is very much in the random crap for each episode.
