I love that article.

Quote:
nobody really knew they wanted three more Fast & Furious sequels until there was a trailer where The Rock breaks a plaster cast off his arm while saying "Daddy's gotta go to work", and then everyone was like "oh HELL YES! GIVE ME ONE HUNDRED MORE OF THOSE FILMS!";

Yup.

That was posted on here a while ago - I love that article.

Not as much as I love the Rock mind.

I was trying to explain my love of the Rock to an American colleague and he really just didn't get it.

Wait... what?

It Doesn't Matter came on in my car on the way to Cottage this year and Craster had never heard it before.

Mr Robot is brill plus the end song (in the latest episode) was from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure so there’s no reason not to watch.

Just watched the most recent episode of The Orville and the character level work continues to impress me in spite of the relatively thin plots. For some reason during this episode it struck me precisely how utterly fucking shameless it's ripping-off of Star Trek TNG is. It's not just a couple of little things, it's almost every single detail: the intro, the theme tune, the uniforms, the food dispenser things, even the noise of the doors. Unless there's some shared ownership of the IP--which doesn't seem likely as one is Fox and the other CBS--then I'm stunned they're getting away with it. I mean the things I mention aren't exactly the same of course but they're so blatantly hewing as close as possible that taken as a whole it's impossible to deny.

They don't have any rights to the ip, but they have producers, writers and vfx staff and maybe others that have worked on Star Trek.

Also Sherry Palmer.

I could be very wrong, but I think pastiche/parody is given generous leeway.

Also isn't the original out of copyright, or is that not how it works?

Yeah I think they'd have to go down the parody/spoof angle if they were planning to mount a legal defence. Doubt it would come to that here though, but maybe.

Do they really try that hard? The Punisher isn't really meant to be sympathetic, to my mind it's designed to be an abject lesson in what happens when you go down the 'wrong' route of seeking justice, and the Netflix version does that pretty well. Trying to build the pathos of redemption into it would undercut the whole premise of the character.

I'd more just say that they do a pretty good job of convincing you of his motivation, even if you can't really fully condone his actions. Ultimately he pretty much just has war inside him.

The Expanse has grown up to be one of my favourite current shows. S1 was fine, but the second one is firing on all cylinders. If any of you has any interest in good science fiction, stop what you're doing and watch it.

Oh good. I did enjoy S1, but not enough to have watched S2 yet.

100% belongs in its own thread, easily the best of the Netflix Marvels, and indeed one of the finest seasons of telly I've seen for a while. I wrote most of a long post about it the other day (it had character motivation in it and everything) but then couldn't be arsed finishing it since all this chat just gets lost in a morass of random comments about whatever anyone's watched that evening and makes coherent conversations essentially impossible so I just deleted it.

Pete dared to start a thread about 'The Death Of Stalin' and was immediately BANISHED to NO REPLYVILLE (except by me), THE RULES HAVE BEEN BROKEN SHUN THE INTRUDER.

As such my thoughts about The Punisher remain my own and I'm just going to wank myself silly over multiple print outs of them and when the pages get all crispy like a teenager's copy of Escort I'll print off more copies in bigger colours and different fonts and crack one out again and AGAIN FAP FAP FAP FAP.

SO THERE.

Nobody replied to the Death of Stalin thread because no fucker saw it. I wanted to and will do when it’s on [normall telly] but it’s just because of that, not because it had its own thread.

We are 6.5 seasons through Dexter on Netflix and I've found out it's being removed on 21st Dec. Going to have to binge the rest it seems.

Yeah, it’s probably not as bad as everyone says, but it definitely kind of falls to pieces towards the end. I still kind of enjoyed it, but it was hard work and I was glad it was over!

I had a quick look at the synopses as I couldn’t remember how many series there were. I think the 6th was the last decent one.

Hmm, Amazon Prime have added twelve seasons of Criminal Minds. That might be my background TV sorted for a bit.

The Punisher was fucking excellent.

I bet Jon Bernthal's pleased as punch that he got out of the Walking Dead when he did...

Man it would be great if he went back and shot them all to fuck.

Yeah, Dexter... I stuck with it as a few seasons were really good, especially the Harry and the Hendersons one. But it slid down the pan towards the end.

4th was the last decent one. 2nd was the only one that was truly good. 5th was the one with trainspotting's Sick Boy, and it was quite stupid. 6th was terrible and i left the boat. Didn't really care about what came after.

Blurble wibble tonight I watched 'DougDeMuro' on YouTube, he's from the US and as a general sort of US based car review site with interesting insights I'd definitely recommend him.

It's no Punisher though. Or Dexter. Both of which are also, generally speaking, US based TV.

Stop watching Dexter after Season 4.

GENERAL/1000.

John Lithgow is Season 4. That's the season to stop at.

Colin Hanks is Season 6. I never watched that, so I can say with some authority that it's not worth watching.
