http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/11/08/seth-rogen-eric-kripke-get-the-boys-set-up-at-amazon This is excellent news. Will be interesting to see if Simon pegg goes for the role of wee Hughie. I didn't enjoy the comics as much as preacher, seemed to lack soul, but this has the potential to be much bigger because of the superhero subject matter. |

That episode of Mr. Robot was incredible. It was fun just trying to find where the hidden cuts are in the “one long continuous camera shot”. Mind bogglingly ambitious for a TV programme. |

The Deuce is excellent. (If you don't know: it's David "The Wire / Treme" Simon's new shoe. Set in midtown NYC in the early 79s, following the fortunes of a number of prostitutes, pimps, bartenders, Mob bosses, and other associated low-lifes as the US legalised pornography.) Like most of Simon's work, what it's really about is power: who has power over whom, how are they using it and to what end, and what will happen when the power shifts? As usual with Simon there's a hell of a lot of characters and not a great deal of exposition, so you need to watch fairly closely and be prepared that sometimes a character is going to do something that won't make sense for a while. There's a hell of a lot of nudity but most of it is deeply unerotic. You know how GoT claimed it used nudity for plot development and never to titillate, and how that was bullshit? It's actually true of The Deuce. Oh, it's much faster paced than Treme, thankfully. Much closer to The Wire in that respect. Some returning cast from The Wire too, including D'Angelo Barskdale (who has flipped sides and is a world-weary beatcop) and the elder Sobotka brother (who is a surly union man... again). Also worthy of praise: the set and costume design. It's absolutely amazing. |

I did like the first 2 episodes of The Deuce, but my wife thought it was way too unpleasant to keep watching. And I'd rather play games than to watch shows by myself so that show is indefinitely on hold. |

I see The Punisher drops in a week. I'm up to date with Daredevil and J Jones but haven't watched anything like Luke Cage or the ensemble one (Defenders?). Likely to be an issue? |

I think you'll be fine with just Daredevil. |

Post subject: | Re: General Purpose US TV thread |
JJ is great, Luke Cage is decent, Iron Fist is trash, the Defenders is poor. The only good thing about Daredevil S2 was Punisher, so I'm looking forward to this. |

Young Sheldon continues to be decent. It even has this weird foreshadowing of Sheldon’s Dad dying which, if they do it right, could be something really interesting. But that’s not the weirdest thing. Sheldon’s Dad is Leonard’s school bully from s05e11*, so many he ain’t dead. But that doesn’t explain why sheldon doesn’t recognise him, or why sheldon’s Dad is the same age as Sheldon. * I didn’t look this up by the way this episode is currently on E4. |

Did anyone watch Castlevania on Netflix? I saw Bamba mentioned it in B&B a while ago. Anyway, it's fucking excellent. Written by Warren Ellis, looks beautiful (amidst the disembowellings and talk of goat fucking). Definitely not one for the kids. And nor is it something limited to Castlevania fans. I know (virtually) nothing of the videogame lore and am enjoying it immensely. Am sure there are plenty of hat tips to the game in there. |

Future Man is worth a look. It borrows heavily from The Last Starfighter and is very much aware of this. Funny stuff, I thought. |

Started watching '13 Reasons Why' yesterday. It's about a high school student who kills herself and leaves a set of tapes for those who drove her to it. With there being thirteen people and thirteen episodes, I was perhaps expecting something a little more focused perhaps; at times it feels like some teen soap opera trying to teach kids morals about how their actions affect others without them realising just how much. Still, I've watched five episodes now, so I'll see how the other eight go. I saw there's a second series being filmed though, so not sure how that'll work. |

I ended up reading the spoiler as for some reason, Chrome displays the warning about it being a spoiler, but then shows the text anyway (works on mobile though). To be honest, your comment is kinda how I expect the series to go anyway. |

13 Reasons Why is an amazing show, and yes I think it works best as a self contained show, so series 2 will be interesting to see what they do to keep it going. I kept finding myself hoping that listening to the tapes was ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! |

Grim... wrote: Fixed! And, er, sorry! Working here too now. And no problem - to be honest, I'd have probably read the spoiler anyway in case it said something like 'god, those last few episodes were crap'. Oh, and this might just be my tastes, but when casting someone whose meant to be an outsider and considered not as pretty as the rest, it doesn't really work if you cast someone prettier than all of them. |
