MrsVision and I have started watching Breaking Bad. It's the second time for me but she's new to it.

It's still brilliant though and I'm picking up lots of things that I hadn't noticed before. One being...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
In one of the first episodes, Walt has a birthday party. Hank proposes a toast but he does this in the middle of showing off his gun. Everyone in the room raises a toast with a glass except for Walter who is holding a gun awkwardly. It's very subtle, but clever and shows the distinction between Walter and everyone else in the room.

I've been working my way through the X-Files on Amazon Prime of late. In the past, I'd given up around season four I think, but I'm now up to season either this time around. The quality is so variable though that some episodes, I end up paying very little attention to and have even just napped through. In the first few seasons, I prefer the 'monster of the week' type episodes as they were more interesting than the overall season story, but when you get to seasons six onward, I found that some of the monster of the week episodes were so bad, I'd long for a main story one instead.

In particular, I don't enjoy the lighthearted stories much at all, like Hollywood AD (where there's an X-Files film made). I much prefer the darker episodes.

Second time around, I found Breaking Bad to be more of a black comedy with elements of a thriller, whereas first time around the balance went the other way.

Things like:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Walt chastising Jesse for bringing the meth lab to an airport, when later on Jesse chastised Walt for bringing a bomb to a hospital.
Walt wanting to withhold Jesse's payment from him because he'll spend it on drugs (it is drug money).
The discussion of killling/being a criminal with Krazy8.

All of this is hilarious, but way moreso given the context of future episodes.

Absolutely spot on. I said this just last night. It's way more funnier than I remember it being. I guess it helps that there's no suspense for me as I know what's going to happen.

I still think it's the best thing I've ever watched on TV.

We've started watching American Horror Story. Just started season 4 and still interested. I pay it more interest than my phone which is a good marker.

Handmaids tale is the best new show on TV. Very interesting setting and amazingly written and acted.

Genius is much better than I thought it would be. There are lots of silly stuff though, like how every Einstein discovery came by through an eureka moment, but I understand that staring at a man thinking for 10 hour's wouldnt make a good show.

Fargo is being amazing. Best season so far.

American gods is really stupid, but I like all the neons, so I'll keep watching it for sure.

Just started series 2 of Better Call Saul. It's brilliant. Brilliantly shot, brilliantly scripted, brilliantly acted.

Finished series four of Agents of Shield. Slow-burning in places, much less so in others. I think that was the best one yet. Much fun.

Recently started 'SONS OF ANARCHY' on Netflix, currently working my through Season Two.

I'm very much enjoying it but part of me can't help but think it's basically a soap opera with occasional extreme violence, rock music, and Hell's Angels, but then again that sounds pretty cool.

Suffers a bit from the 'no proper swearing' policy that was imposed on it, and I'm still not sure if it's supposed to be condemning or lionising the Angels themselves, or not taking a position at all.

Evil Leela is splendid though, and there is some great humour in there, albeit often very dark and/or twisted.

It really fucking nosedives off a cliff when they go to Ireland. The later seasons have their moments but it gets really daft and formulaic.

I can't remember it being averse to swearing which is a bit odd given all the violence and bum rape later on.

Yeah, an enjoyable watch but very wobbly.

Especially:

Also:

But I watched the whole bloody lot and didn't feel short changed.

Mrs Z and myself decided to drop Orange is the new Black as the current season is absolute gash.

Shame as it was pretty good until this season. Plenty of other stuff to watch though so it's out.

Yes we are struggling with it, normally its one of the few summer shows available that we both like so we watch it all in a week.

Is Sons of Anarchy a hospital drama? My sister was watching it a while back and every time I looked at the screen they were in a hospital.

Anyone else think that the Hooli-con episode of Silicon Valley was a bit, well, stupid? It just seems so far away from how they would normally have acted.

I nearly made a new thread for SV, but then didn't. CSB

I haven't seen that episode yet, but I've been loving Series 4, my favourite so far, I think.

The addition of a soupcon more drama really helps, and it's still extremely funny.

And somehow, the hospital is very reminiscent of the hospital used in Neighbours or Home & Away (can't remember which).

But agreed, it spends a hell of a lot of time in the hospital, owing to Jaxx's gal being a doctor.

The more I think about that show (with hairy bikers lumbering around the hospital as if it's fine for them to use it as a meeting place), the more ridiculous it becomes. Good/nasty fun, but fucking ridiculous.

Yes I thought it was a dumb episode.

Edit: They didn't even discuss how if they get caught out, even at a later date (which would be inevitable) it would make them completely toxic in the eyes of both end users and investors.

I wouldn't mind if they had this discussion, then did it anyway, but it's like they all temporarily became total morons.

On to the fourth season of Parks and Recreation and it's brilliant. Rob Lowe, especially. It's laugh out loud funny, and exceedingly sweet without being saccharine.

This would be true if The West Wing didn't exist, but Parks and Rec is still excellent. It's worth watching the various blooper reels that are available on YouTube as they're brilliant, especially anything involving Chris Pratt.

Kicking Trousers out of the thread. If you've not watched The West Wing you're not qualified to have a single opinion about television. And you're not even allowed to use the word 'ensemble'.
