Evening folks, I've posted my first of hopefully many reviews on Snappy Gamer. I'm still dicking about with the design, but I thought I'd just shot it up as is and start posting on it otherwise I'd never start. The beauty of WordPress is that I can post all I like, and completely change the design somewhere down the line, leaving all of the posts intact. Yay!

I'll tweak the look of it over the coming weeks.

Feel free to leave a comment :p

It's nice and clean and uncluttered - very nice :)

Do you have one of those RSS feed thingys? I cannot se a link to one if you do, and I am trying to get used to using those so that I remember to check out people's blogs, etc.

Oh, I Worked it out. There's also a feed with full posts and pictures available, but I still couldn't see a link to either on your site. It might be worth adding one in for ease of reading and so that people don't forget to read your blog.

Thanks, Mimi :)

There's a link to the RSS feed in the top right corner! But not to the RSS with piccies and stuff. I'm gonna try to make it more obvious, though!

Oh yes, I see it now - the great of the text on the dark background up there is quite difficult to see - it was invisible to me until I turned the brightness of the screen right up. it may be my screen (though shouldn't be) or my eyes (though again, I have perfect vision thus far) but there doesn't seem to be enough contrast of that grey on black, so it might be with thinking of using a lighter grey, or making it more apparent somehow, else I would never have seen it.

I'll do that! Thanks for the feedback Mimi you're a star :)

Obviously, the design is just temporary at the moment anyway. I just needed to get it up and running so I could start posting some reviews, otherwise I'd never get it going!

I like the writing, but isn't it about 3 times too long to be "Snappy". I assumed the "preview" was the whole thing.

It's about 600 words! Most reviews these days are 1000+. You'd be lucky to see one on Eurogamer less than 2000 words of self indulgent tosh. But, I agree, I was aiming for around 400 words - The Force Unleashed just really pissed me off.

I actually read that yesterday, I thought it was a good review. The only thing I would say is the swearing means people can't always access it due to filters. Just a comment mind, it doesn't bother me at all.

Point noted! I'll star out the swearies and try to stop using them in future :)

here you write probably more as you speak, there you write more if you are writing a report, which is okay, but just realise that when you're doing it,
thanx for including me, i'll add you too

Ahoy! I've just spent all night messing around and redesigning the site a bit. What do you guys think?

I wanted bigger pictures and a wider text area to make reading easier. The logo is just a temp one and will be sorted soon :p

It looks good - the eBay ads on teh right are a tad intrusive though, but I understand that you are probably ooking for a fine balance between design/layout and site revenue

Thanks guys!

The ebay ads are crap, I know, but they're on a rotation from Google Ads and I can't remove them. :(

They're context sensitive so if it sees "xbox" on my site, it'll show bloody ebay ads with xbox pads in them for some reason. When a "proper" banner ad shows, it looks fine. So they'll have to do for now. Having said that, I've made approximately fuck all from the ads.

BTW: Thanks for the factual error - I fixed it :)

And thanks very much everyone for the kind words. It's taking up a lot of my time when I'm not at work, but it gives me something to do I suppose! Glad you all seem to like it. Get it bookmarked if you haven't already :)

And, if anyone thinks they can write, I'm always happy to talk about getting a review or two up. I get most games for free now, so I'd be happy to forward any on if you're reliable enough!

I might have an interesting* proposal for you mr.

I'll send you a PM when I've thought about it a bit more. :)

* I might have a proposal, it might be interesting. It will more than likely fail in at least one of them.

Lave - cool!

Sheep - FFS! I hate Opera, it's the bane of my life. Stop using it! :D

edit: Actually, that looks about right. You're just missing the ads and my logo for some reason - perhaps Opera thinks the logo is an ad as well? It's supposed to be all white now, though!

Oh. Then excuse me for saying it looks horribly broken rather than minimalist. I'd prefer a dark background and lighter text. Easier on the eyes.

Yeah, I'm still unsure. To be honest, it's a temporary design and I'm looking at getting it done properly in the new year. It's closer to how I'd like it, though.

I hope the answering questions from search engines section becomes a regular feature, because I like it. And I'm all for any site that does features as well as straight news/previews/reviews.
