AN HONEST LIAR - Truth and Deception in the Life of James The Amazing Randi

Quote:
NY Times Critic's Pick AN HONEST LIAR is an award-winning feature documentary about the world-famous magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception, James ‘The Amazing’ Randi. The film brings to life Randi’s intricate investigations that publicly exposed psychics, faith healers, and con-artists with quasi-religious fervor. A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, the artist Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos. But when a shocking revelation in Randi’s personal life is discovered, it isn’t clear whether Randi is still the deceiver – or the deceived.

Just watched the whole thing on YouTube as I've been interested in the man himself for a long time.

Fantastic and touching film - thanks the heads-up zaphod, an hour and a half very well spent. (I already knew a lot of it, especially the Popof stuff, but getting the whole story of Randi was fascinating.)

And now I have seen it. Not knowing anything about Randi's personal life, I certainly didn't see the twists coming towards the end.

Quite a lot of the older vert skaters seem to be managing fairly long careers at the top of their game, although they at least wear pads and have the experience to handle most situations such that they manage to slide out when they get it wrong. Most street skaters really have to wind it down when get past their mid thirties as mistakes can often be a bit less forgiving.

He's still doing bloody well, mind. I know myself that although I'm probably fitter than I ever was as a youngster and can run further and faster when I slam skating now it feels so much worse than it used to and I always feel it the next day. And he's six years older than me.

Not to diss this, because it's great, but this sort of thing must be made easier by getyarn. And anything similar. Is there anything similar? Chopping up films into bits of dialogue. I stumbled across it by accident, trying to check whether I heard what I thought I heard in a film:

I know it's just Fred Dibnah climbing up a ladder, and you know he's going to be just fine, but the video still puts me on edge, particularly as he climbs the overhangs.

As I've probably mentioned, I've had a few beers with him. He likes to talk, but most of what he has to say is interesting.

His wife is a bitch, though :(

Corridor Digital were the first people I subscribed to on YouTube, after seeing dubsteb wars, or something.

They've gone downhill in the last few years, but every now and then still come up with awesome stuff like that.

I'm loving this guy (figuratively speaking) so I wanna share a video which, apparently, was on Reddit's front page a while back. I missed it. He's just been on some US rap radio station freestyling with Mr Robot's Joey Bada$$ an' all.

Harry Mack freestyling.

I've just been stuck in a YouTube trap and stumbled across this... It's my dads band from the 70's! I've got the 7 inch record here at home but I had no idea there were any others in circulation. It's had over 2000 views too! I thought I was the only one (apart from my dad and brother) who would care about this song?

And would you believe, there it is! On CD on Amazon. I'm pretty sure my dad would know absolutely nothing about this even though he wrote the song.

What a world we live in.

Not in the middle no but he is in the picture to the right of it. The pic with the redish hue on it? You can't quite make him out though.

I had a look last night to see if I could find any pictures of the band as he used to take his camera everywhere and has recently scanned in a load of negatives. Unfortunately, the only picture I could find was one of the lead singer in his personalised one sleeved leather jacket! You should see this thing, tassels, studs... the lot... except it's only got one sleeve! It's amazing.
