The Guardian did an article "The 50 podcasts you need to hear" a couple of months ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... ent-serial

I've been listening to the new Adam Buxton podcast (wouldn't have known it existed if not for the article). Very enjoyable.

I gave MDWAP a go today, and it is just as you say, fucking hilarious.
I'm never going to be able to listen to Alice Levine on the radio without hearing her swear now though.

Right? You wait until Levine starts loosening up on what she talks about.

I'm loving the second book more. It referred to the terrorist plot today. I never knew pots and pans could be so dangerous!

If you like surreal local radio podcasts then I'd imagine they don't come more surreal than "Welcome to Night Vale."

"There is a new dog park near the outskirts of town. Humans are not allowed in the dog park. Dogs are not allowed in the dog park. Ignore the hooded figures who roam the dog park. Do not look at the dog park. Citizens are not even supposed to be consciously aware of the dog park, so they could not possibly be receiving a menacing and unearthly voice instructing listeners to bring precious metals and toddlers to the dog park."

Another interesting one by one of the Night Vale creators is Alice Isn't Dead. Less surreal and more like a Stephen King book.

Finished series one of 'Rex Factor'. Really enjoyed the ride, and even let out an involuntary 'whoop' when the one I'd been backing (after my other two favourites were knocked out in the supremely pointless but utterly compelling playoffs) 'won'. Learnt loads about English history that I never knew before, and have already bought or requested library books on the Plantagenets and Aethalstan, as well as being introduced to lesser-known figures such as William IV, the immortal and omnipresent Dunstan, the great Cnut, and MANNYYYY!

I think I'm going to take a break and listen to other podcasts (including the ones I've abandoned to get through all 1200 years of Rex) before taking on the Scottish monarchs.

The early Scots kings are a bit odd after the later English ones, as there is almost no written record of them. The Aed episode is pretty funny because of this!

I think I have to go with the episode where we meet The Countess. Or maybe the episode after. Whichever one involves the threesome.

Hello darliiiiiiiiiink. Oh no my robe has fallen down darliiiiiiiiiiiiiink.

I think it's funny. I don't think I'd pull over in the car while listening to it though... also, not the narrator, but the other guys voice is really quite annoying.

Maybe. I mean, it's not awful, but so far it's an hour of observation that the writing is a bit awkward, and reading your dad's mind-splurge idea of erotica is a bit weird.

The male friend does have a slightly annoying whinge to his voice, and the female frien sounds quite like that DJ I like that goes that show with someone. The funny woman. But this woman is less funny so it's a bit disappointing.

If tell you who I'm talking about, but I gave no idea what her name is.

Her letters are great. I may consider this podcast if the Radio 4 comedy becomes Dead Ringers again and I need to fill a gap.

Do you think the phrase "steaming vaginas" is funny?

Aside: I'm listening to my very first Audible book, and I keep expecting Alice or James to interrupt.

Aw, that's a shame. You used to be able to pick your free book. You'll be overrun with recommendations, but one of my favourites is Artgur & George., and I really like Jinathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which Owen recommended to me. Both had rubbish to series made of them, but don't judge them in that, the books (and audiobooks) are far superior.

Listened to the first episode on my way in. Laughed all the way down the A34. Just hope the range on my FM transmitter isn't too powerful as someone idly twiddling their dial whilst bored in traffic might have been very surprised!

I've ben quite enjoying the Radio 4 comedy of the week, as it's currently Museum of Curiosity. Produced and researched by some of the QI team, and presented by John Lloyd who created it, so if you like No Such Thing As a Fish I reckon you'll like it. It's mostly a interview-alike with loads of pithy quotes and stuff thrown in.

You think I'll like it, or someone else? If me, we can listen on our trip later. Or we can listen to that My Dad Wrote A Porno one, though with people having to pull over and it making people almost vomit, I'd rather drive safe.

I find this much depends on the quality of the guests in each particular episode. And it occasionally suffers from Infinite Monkey Syndrome in that someone saying something really interesting is cut-off for a lame gag. But, better than some of the 18:30 things and is entertaining and informative.
