I agree it's similar to football in that you have to watch the whole season but I'm still gutted, Murdoch & SKy are not getting any of my money. Just need to find a good feed on Sopcast

I'm not getting Sky sports to watch the F1. The bbc coverage has been excellent, if you ignore that twat of an irishman, and I thought that F1 was one of the blue riband tings for the bbc?

Disingenious. They are showing whole races, just not all of them. You can't currently watch every Premier League game (or even every game for one team).

Yes, but there aren't only 18 football matches in a whole season, where every team plays a side at the same time, so missing a few is more reasonable when there are hundreds...

Although, every team playing at the same time on one pitch would be an awesome spectacle! :D

F1 & Doctor Who was the only thing I watched on the Beeb, With all the reality TV crap they show on TV they could have cut those.

Also only showing half the races is like stabbing you with a stick to see if you are still breathing, I rather it was none.

Ah yes, the 'I don't watch them so they should cut these' argument. I personally can't stand EastEnders, but loads of people love it, so *shrugs*

To get sky for this would be a tenner a month for their fucking crappy 'basic' package then another tenner for a Sky Sports channel that shows the races, and if there's 2 races in a month and one is on BBC, you are paying £20 and putting one of those bloody dishes on your house for one race, which might be shit anyway.

So, essentially it boils down to 'axe all the things I'm not interested in to keep the things I'm interested in'.

If you're a massive F1 fan then you will pay the premium to watch the races; if you're a casual fan then half the races + radio + highlights will do, right?

I'm am being a bit devil's advocatey here, but not much.

Me too, but it pisses me off that this is allowed to happen over and over again. I know that Sky are the only company with the financial clout to make Bernie's eyes light up, but I've already lost Test Cricket and it gets my goat.

Indeed. BBC should be focussed on stuff the nation can't do without ( and with 5m viewers, that ain't F1) or stuff that needs exposure but can't get it through commercial channels.

I'm not sure if it is on a one channel basis but Davpaz suggests it could be. Also, my original post was meant to say freeview not freebies.

From f1s perspective its a Bruno cretinous move, mind. It's not a sport like football where people are able to get into it by watching live games like football. I certainly going into it through TV, as I imagine most new fans now do. Remove that, piss off people by charging via sky and, in the UK at least (an idea imagine that this won't be able step only taken here) and you eventually low your audience. Making money from sport die tend to rely on having an audience.

Jeremy Darroch, the BSkyB chief executive, said that the satellite broadcaster became involved in the negotiations for Formula One very late in the process. Channel 4 reportedly expressed an interest in buying the rights, while ITV rejected the idea of making a bid. "Formula One is in the top tier of sports properties," Darroch said.
