Ooh, both Saubers have been disqualified!
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/ ... 11874.html

Also, does anyone else get the feeling that HRT aren't going to get a race this year?

Schumi & Barrichello very poor

Most surprising to see Rubens driving the way he did this weekend (during qualifying and the race) - it's not like him at all.
Shumacher qualified badly but it's not his fault someone drove into him on the first corner.
And I'm still of the opinion that he doesn't care one bit :)

Barrichello raced like an experienced rookie, pathetic. It was Alguersuari who drove into Schumacher at the start. Schumi is just not interested, Mercedes would be better off replacing him with a younger faster driver.

Yes a shame for the Saubers they done well in the race especially Perez on a 1 pit stop strategy. However I think they will have a good season.

HRT need to shut up shop & go. Save their money.

Yes it is worrying especially because Webber was so poor in the sister Red Bull.
But Mclaren were close, my only concern was that Red Bull was not using KERS.

I dread to think how fast they will be in Malaysia

Given how hot it is in Malaysia and how they haven't allowed a compromise for KERS cooling, the answer could well be explosive.

Well, it was nice seeing it in HD. Other than that I thought it was a not quite the spectacle I was hoping. I, like MrDave, sincerely hope the RB isn't a second a lap faster for any of the other races, though the tyre degradations did seem to be effecting them more than the others, which might be a hope.

The commentary was pretty good, but the TV coverage was a bit singleminded which might be indicative of how dull Vettel and Hamilton's race was, as we saw very little of them for most of it.

Button/Massa was frustrating at the start and worryingly indicative of the DRS application not being quite as effective, as I for one, would have hoped.

Barrichello blamed the tyres for him wrecking Britney's race, didn't he. :D

Did he? That's really not like him - if there's anyone on the circuit ready to admit something is his fault, it's Barrichello.
Maybe he got a shouting at by Frank over the break.

Hopefully the DRS will be more useful in Sepang with it's long straights
Williams & Mercedes both need to go back to the drawing board they are behind Sauber now & have some catching upto do.

I'm Also not convinced they are - maldonado is not really so good yet (took him years to be good in gp2) and Barrichello is perhaps going a season to far or just had a poor weekend. And the new slim gearbox is proving not reliable.

Schumachet has already gone beyond the season too far and I think fishery was on track to beat the saubers.

It depends what point of view you look at it from - business or racing. HRT way well be turning a profit (although I suspect that will stop very soon if they can't race). And I'd imagine Schumacher brings an absolute shitload of sponsorship money into Mercedes.

Yes that point excluding the car looks to be fast & copes with tyres, at least with Perez

Depends if it's fast because of the (currently) illegal rear wing, though.

I'm sure that played some part but I think Perez one stop strategy helped him more.

The wing was fairly irrelevant.

I can't check right now, but I think trulli also only stopped once. The main thing allowing it seems to have been starting on the hard tyres more than anything. Could be wrong.

Edit: Apparently not. Where did I get that impression from?

It can only be used on one straigh per race though, that straight being determined by Charlie Whiting.

What concerns me is that Whiting can fuck around with the parameters of the DRS midrace, if he thinks it is too effective/not effective enough. Thats a whole barrelload of artifice right there.

They probably will, unless the Tata money supply runs out for some reason.

They weren't going to get anything like the performance of the car with only 7 laps of testing (Of which the hopelessly useless Karthikeyan did 5)

There's more to come with that car. Probably enough to get it into the races (And potentially above Virgin, given quite how poor they looked)

Can he? It was comically ineffective yesterday and didn't get noticeably better during the race. However, on the artifice level I agree it's a stupid stupid stupid idea having it like this with one spot on the circuit it can be used. If you're going to have it the drivers should be allowed to use their judgment when it gets deployed, but I still think it doesn't address the problem of why it's needed in the first place. I don't know why they don't basically ban aero completely beyond a certain amount of downforce, which doesn't create massive turbulence for the following car and then make them run with 18" wide rears.

Okay, I watched the re-run.. boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, whoops broken front wing, boring, boring, whoo-hoo flying car!, boring. In light of this, I think F1 should install ramps at each circuit. Better than that stupid 'artificial rain' bollocks.

Not much action happening in this thread (which is more than can be said for the season so far). So how is everyone liking the new rule changes? It's certainly more exciting, although I can see why the purists are not impressed.

A quick word about Monaco: I've just raced a 40% distance in F1 2010 and the track is fucking batshit mental. I finished last because I had to have five pitstops due to punctures or a broken front wing. You have to have so much concentration, as one wrong move and you're in the wall. I get the feeling this track is only still in F1 because of the prestige, as it's so dangerous. DRS through the tunnel is going to be catastrophic.

I'm really, really, enjoying it. I like the way that the tyres are important, and the DRS use us awesome, too. My only real complaint is that so much gies on behind the Red Bulls and Hamilton that you don't get to see it on the TV.

I think it is a spectacle again. Which is what I like.

Even as a no passing Procession, Monaco has been my favourite race since I can remember. And until this F1 game, also the first track I would race on when I got a new iteration. On 2010 though, it is pure evil. Realism has maybe got a bit too real.

Monaco is my favourite track to watch, just for the noise, colors, wimmins and put a foot wrong and welcome to the wall. I see it as more of a test of nerve and skill than a race.

What was that American street circuit in F1GP? It was like Monaco in terms of little run off areas but a decent length.

God I loved that game. Still the best racing game in my opinion. Also, loved the Monaco track, couldn't get over the fact that I was driving in Monaco - a city - (okay a bunch of cardboard boxes) on the Amiga! Consequently Monaco is also still my fave to watch, also for MaliA's reasons.

That film 'Senna' has been getting good reviews. Think I'll go see when it hits the big-pix-flicks.

In real life I'm pretty sure I'm correct in saying that his car was so crap he didn't finish any race. In fact I think that was the year they had pre-qualifying and the car was so rubbish it only got past that stage a couple of times.

Well, Monte Carlo is the city, but yes.

I saved up my £3 a week pocket money for three months to buy F1GP, which was £35 in 1992 (£55.30 in today's money). I remember being ridiculously excited. I used to play it for so long on my A500 that the cockpit would start bleeding (memory leaks probably, in hindsight). I'd do every race at 100% distance - what a freak I was.

Even looking at that video now makes me think the game was way ahead of its time. The fact there are no textures means it's dated a lot less than the sequels.

I wish my a500+ (with 2Meg!) could run it that fast. I didn't have a hard drive, so I used to copy the game files to the RAM disk and play it from there. Made loading much quicker, but not the game.

When I got my PC in 1996, the first game I bought and played was F1GP. OMG, TEXTURED ROAD! 20FPS! *nerdgasm*

Lol.

Like I said, I don't like the flappy wing at all. Maybe if they eventually get it right it'll be better, but at the moment it's either guaranteed overtake or no use at all. It won't be long until you have drivers fighting to stay behind each other so they can be the one to overtake on the final lap.
