oh and in reply to "It's basically a discussion about the whiter-than-white Hamilton and the evil, evil Massa.", I'd say that the main bone of contention I have is with the FIA Mosley really, which long preceeded Hamilton ever entering the sport. It's him who put the current stewarding system in (for the sake of speedy decisions, apparently) which really is broken.

The two biggest, most highly competitive egos in F1 are probably Alonso and Hamilton and I have to say it's nice to see these guys drive hard.
And not apologise for it.
What depresses me most about the sport is the number of bloody make-weights in it.

French Grand Prix cancelled for financial reasons
That's a worrying precedent.

It would be at least as much to do with Ecclestone's outrageous fees as any wider economic problems. I know he always says there are plenty of places queuing up to host F1, to get the older venues to cough up, but they can't all have night races to suit European TV schedules. He'll have to adjust his bargaining position or lose the venues he has.

It's amusing, he was utter shit in the Bathurst 1000 last weekend, putting a Supercheap Auto car in the wall, off the road and just about everywhere you shouldn't multiple times.

Meanwhile, over at Triple-8's Team Vodafone, Fabrizio Giovanardi drove an excellent race to 12th place overall.

I saw the supercheap in the wall, I didn't realize he was driving it. I wanted to watch the whole race but it clashed with the GP or sleep time for the GP or something. I had the replay running on motors tv the other night but I wasn't really paying attention.

Indeed.

He did however wreck a car emblazoned with the logo of the title sponsor of the race, which is not a career building move.

Especially as last time he attempted the race he was 3 laps down in 18th, then the leaders came up to lap him and this happened.

I met Matt Neal at Brands Hatch during the final 3 stages of the BTCC 2006 season and he struck me as a tit then. A very tall tit, I might add.

Pretty dull? They might of well have stopped after qualifying. Most boring race of the year, IMO.

[edit]Added spoiler for people that are watching at lunchtime.

You should have done what I did and stayed in bed until 9:15am I quite enjoyed the end of the race - I particularly liked Rob Smedley's admission after the race

I got up at 9ish, watched them finish, it was really, really dull. And then watched MOTD, and now I'm here.

Honestly, I would love to enjoy it, but it's jsut dull.

They are. That wasn't team orders, that was just Kimi happening to be disastrously slower than Massa at that part of the race...

Yeah, I can't keep a straight face either.

He basically admitted that Hamilton is a better and faster driver than Massa because he said Ferrari could beat the McLaren but couldn't beat it with Hamilton driving.

You what? That was Kimi letting Massa go through. It's got nothing to do with team orders (which should be allowed, IMO), it's what any driver would do in the same situation.

Oh of course it's team orders.

In that before the race the team said "If you're ahead of him late on, you WILL let him by".

It's just it's legal if you pretend it was 100% the driver's decision to give up a place and money to no benefit to himself apart from not getting sacked....which surely makes it a team order again :)

I agree though, of course the should be allowed and a polite word should be had to not do a Ferrari 2002.

No, that's Maurice Hamilton, who isn't related.

Generally speaking, I think the Massa Raikkonen thing was fair enough, if more than a little classless - Yes, Massa does need that much help. He wasn't anywhere near the pace of Raikkonen.

And then gets given a 10 second un-penalty.

Everyone else has to come into the pits and stop for 10 seconds except him.

That's the stupid thing, isn't it? Alonso would get a penalty, but it wouldn't affect Massa at all. If this happened I don't think I'd be able to watch F1 ever again.

The fallout would be... interesting. I don't think Alonso would last that long in the sport though.

FTFY.

Or a far better example. Senna's move in Japan 1990 that he admitted to.

I remain amazed he never faced criminal charges over that one.

They can't exactly give Massa a penalty for something Alonso did though.
It would be awesome TV if that did happen.

If Alonso was stupid enough to do that, you can guarantee one of Rosberg or Sutil would have "issues" while being lapped by Massa though.

Or probably Bourdais, especially if he knows he's out after this year.

I genuinely believe that Lewis would get out of his car and lamp him one in the face (after he'd taken off his helmet).

Yah, that'd be good. F1 could use a fight or two. Closest we came was when Schumacher stormed off down to DC's pit garage and looked like he was going to lamp him one for slowing down a load in the rain, causing Schumey to hit the back of him.

I remember that. I think the last person to get lamped in F1 was Eddie Irvine by a certain A Senna, wasn't it.
It's all a bit fucking po faced nowadays so I quite like all the drivers sulking about Hamilton being an arrogant bastard.

That's a rubbish survey.
Quote:
Q18. Among the technical innovations next season will be Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS). Which of the following statements best sums up your views on KERS?
It’s an ingenious way for F1 to be both more energy-efficient and more exciting
It’s an interesting concept but I’m reserving judgement until next season
I am concerned about the safety and/or practicality of KERS devices
I don’t know what KERS is and fear it will baffle ordinary fans

Talk about being forced into an answer! Where's "Keep that hippy shit out of F1 cars and concentrate on making the go faster"?

F1 hosted its inaugural night race this year in Singapore. What do you feel was the best aspect of the night race?

To see the drivers performing in different racing conditions (showcased different talents)
Seeing how the cars performed at night
Seeing how the team strategies changed to deal with racing at night
The spectacle, it was hard to believe they could drive like that at night

Lacks option for, "I dislike getting out of bed prior to 10am of a Sunday morning."

Qualifying is on at 1510 on one of the iTV channels, fans, for the epically artificially enhanced season nailbiting three way finale. I'll be watching it as anything is better than preliminary rulings.

Hamilton did well, letting the 2 Ferraris out in front, so he can have an easy afternoon now, and simply follow them home.
