We went to see Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott last night. It was really good, and the set list had the good stuff in from the Beautiful South (have fun, petfect 10, don't narry her etc), housemartins and a few from their 2015 album. I would recommend going. (Also, 13500 people at £30 a ticket is a hell of an earner). I'd recommend the album, too.

My only real gripe if the evening is with the support band. THis one in particular ("Trudy") wasn't any good at all. The singer spent his time mumbling incoherently or hacking at a guitar and shouting. I dislike support bands because I haven't paid to watch them and it is rare that they are any good (exception: REM ar Cardiff Arms Park in 1995 had Del Amitri, Belly and The Cranberries. This was superb). And it means I have to wait longer to see the people I have paid to see. Anyways, this didn't detract all that much from the evening.

Today's soundtrack into work (rather than R4's Today) was The Cult's 2001 offering "Beyond Good and Evil". It is worth a listen.

Thank you TheVision!

It was in the soundtrack to that film that was great that I'd forgotten, but it wasn't going to be released. They've released it in memoriam of Jo Cox, which is rather nice.

I enjoyed that (although not the way he says "upps" instead of "oops") but I loved the 16th century interlude. I'm a bif fan of acoustic versions of baby, One More Time though. Have you heard the version Travis did live in the last week of Mark and Lard's radio 1 show?

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's "Unruly Mess" album is brilliant. Here's Downtown, which even Mr Chris likes.

So Jay-Z has dropped a new album overnight called 4:44. I haven't heard it but I've seen the video for "The Story of OJ" which can also be viewed at https://streamable.com/frvxd for anyone interested. It's not exactly bling Jay-Z, nor is it directly about OJ. NO I.D. the beat. Cuphead on the visuals, apparently.

Radio 1? No. I can't remember the last time I listened to R1 for more than about 20 seconds. It hurts my ears, man.

I'm not a big fan of a Capella as a rule. In fact it's not the singing, but the theatricals that accompany it on the likes of Pitch Battle that irritate me, but I do like this.

Mark and Lard left Radio 1 thirteen years ago.

If you want to see a band that aren't quite as good as Elastica, Sleeper are playing some gigs. Here's a link to the Leeds one:

That a Capella track is great, but two things annoy me. Firstly, the main soloist fails to form her words properly, making them sound mushy. Annoying. Secondly, why didn't they put the screen up? They took time to light and frame everything, but had that screen in shot. Fools!

But seriously though, a good a Capella group with a proper range of voices sounds amazing and you can sometimes forget that there are no instruments at all.

There was a time I'd have crawled over Mr Agreeable's naked corpse to sit with Louise Wener and sniff her hair read her histrionic words from my tattered book of teenage lyrics, but that gig has nothing but sad disappointment for all involved written all over it.

Eminem is releasing a new album on 15 December.

It’s called REVIVAL. Sounds good, right? Like, it might be a return to his old style of punchline rap or some proper old school hip hop.

Ed Sheeren’s on a track.

Its gonna be a bit shit then.

Lulz - Em’s tracklist is trending thanks to Ed and the comments are overwhelmingly negative. First he pops up in Game of Thrones and makes it shitter and now this? When will it end, Ed, you ginger cunt? WHEN WILL IT END.

I’m sure he’s a nice guy. I’m only joshing.

Post subject:  Re: Non-Genre Specific Music Thread

Oi! I’ll give it a listen too but I’m not expecting much since his output since Recovery has been a mixed bag at best. He’s clearly got it in him but, for whatever reason, he does has not possessed the ability to record a decent album for many many years.

I reckon it’s a publishing problem. They want to sell him to everyone but the fans just want a old school hip hop album with Dre, DPG, D12 or even fif; or even something similar to Kendrick Lamar’s socio-political take or a raw introspective album similar to Jay-Z’s 4:44.

I was about to leave the house this morning when an organ piece came on the radio and I was so mesmerised by its textures and sound I found I just had to listen to the whole of it before going on my way.

It's called 'Wrangham' by Claire M Singer. Not someone I've heard of before but I'm definitely going to have to investigate her work further. As with all new things, I'm never going to be able to recapture today's sensations and wonderment again, alas, but further listening will hopefully uncover more of its secrets.
