When you've got a sec, can you pop up and re-attach the passenger brake duct on my BMW? It having fallen off onto the engine tray some time last week explains the weird "wind howling in a chimney" noise and why it feels like the discs are warped.

Especially exciting is that as a result, the ambient temperature sensor is now hanging in the wheelarch. I look forward to explaining to my insurance company how all the car's electrics came to be wrapped around the axle.

We did quite a bit more that that - namely figuring out where the seats will go. Drinks holders are going in nearer the end - we're going to use the ones you get on bikes as they'll be best at holding onto stuff.

I'm going to ring my dad as he's got tools, a drive and some ramps, no fear regarding taking tools to things and lives round the corner from work. It's a known design flaw - brittle plastic ducting connected using weak clips to the front bumper/spoiler and the flexible wheelarch. That and the temp sensor just sticks out into the duct, with no mesh or anything, so gets smashed within minutes.

The biggest problem is that the area's enclosed by the wheelarch liner, bumper, engine tray, engine, and I live on a terraced street. And don't have ramps or a sturdy jack. Or confidence.

It isn't anything to do with Bradford - I just checked on the Carcraft website and the prices there are so inflated (and that's before you get into finance deals, that's just their "exclusive web only price") that it's amazing they get any customers at all.

It's possible to negotiate a good sticker price there, I did when I stitched them up that time.

A was mentioned in that thread, though, they target idiots and people with poor credit ratings, screwing them further into the ground with debts they can't manage. Their adverts are like double glazing ones, which speaks a great deal straight away.

I MOT'd my gas Corsa yesterday (the one I got for free 2 years ago). It hadn't been MOT'd since then and has two full pages of failing items, including a "In my opinion, this vehicle is not safe to be driven" one.

However I fully expect to have it fixed up and back on the road by next week..

Indeed!

32" Bravia for £767.23, 29.9% APR over 156 weeks: £1104.48 total. Add in the optional service charges, which people no doubt plump for, and the total is £1698.84.

A former boss of mine apparently works for these jokers. "Typical APR: 49.9%". Lovely!

I wonder: is that a punitive interest rate, or does selling to scumbags just leave you with such an enormous default rate that it's actually a fair charge?

Probably a bit of both, there's usually a reason why they've been refused credit elsewhere.

I know. I have tried explaining this to mrsA, but she steadfastly refuses to consider driving it as "it has a manual choke and no power steering", so I've given up arguing for it.

People who have that mentality don't get bad credit in the first place.

I don't think our schools do a decent enough job of teaching people what APR means. I'm sure it'd help a bit if 16 year olds had to do this stuff as part of the Maths GCSEs.

It's not even that though, all these deals show the total amount payable quite prominently. People just think about the weekly amount.

If they did these shops would not exisit would they?

I think people want a new shiny TV that will cost £10 a week, which they can pay for out of benifits (stero typing).

I took the M3 round to my dad's last night and got it up on ramps (only possible because of the convenient 10% incline of the pavement and backwards rocking of 1.6 tonnes onto the back axle on hill launch!) to look at reattaching the brake duct and temperature sensor.

It looks like when I extended the lip over a kerb at work last week, pulling back tore the arch liner, corner under-tray and ducting to shit - I need 4 new bits of plastic and all associated fixings. Nice.

Still, it does feel good to be finally doing some bits to it myself, even if they're so trivial (although getting 12 year old bolts out of torn holes in awkward places didn't seem trivial at the time).

Hey, I left out the part where I looked down the length of the chassis and saw all the scrapes and dents gathered over 12 years of speed humps, including a lovely 6 inch tear in the sump cover (I hesitate to call it a "guard"), didn't I?

Actually, I did miss out that on closer inspection the loom-side part of the temperature sensor was fucked, one of the wires was snapped and the other gave as I pulled at it slightly. Fuck knows how that's going to be fixed, the breaks are right at the moulded piece, and there's no plug at the other end, the wire just disappears into the loom.
