Still, this is a pretty good way to save cash. Put a £500 deposit on a car, and then never take delivery of said car. Maximum financial exposure - £500.

When you say 2l petrol auto - the 280 or a weaker one? I can't remember if they offered any other tunes.

After more than 2 years I still like mine to the point I'd rather remap the engine and gearbox than change it for something else. I've even got used to the lowest seating position feeling a bit like I'm driving a bus.

I still miss the boot on my BMW though, it was a more usable shape despite similar volume

Yeah, to be fair.. The dealer is probably losing money on it. Doing it for a favour I imagine. They're good like that.

The M135i has only done around 1,500 miles since I bought it. By now, in a normal year, that would be closer to 5,000.

Of those 1,500 I've probably done around 500.

Totally worth the finance payments!

This is me, and it's why I didn't consider electric when I got the C-Max last year. Local council has plans to gradually roll out public charging infra in the next couple of years, but I think it only amounts of a handful of rapid chargers (one every few streets) and a few trickle chargers (run off the lighting circuits) per street. It doesn't look terribly hopeful, but plans can change.

Yeah, having an EV and nowhere to charge it at home would be a right shitter at the moment really. That's the main thing that needs sorting. In some parts of London the number of EVs has increased far more quickly than public chargers and people are driving around trying to find one that's free. Plus even if you can then it costs twice as much at charging at home.

I've seen a good few houses that just have impromptu 13A cables running across the pavement to their car. Not ideal, obviously. If you're lucky they put rubber trip guards on them, at least.

Yeah, I have a parking spot but it's a bit away from the house and across a right-of-way. I could probably wrangle a cable from my house to the spot without it tripping anyone, but I'd have to run it across 3 other people's front yards

I'm feeling close to a point where I could switch, and would be keen to lease an EV when my shitty focus finally dies, as i've got space to charge it comfortably and don't do much in the way of miles. The house we are moving into has solar panels on the roof too, but I don't know yet how effective they are. My ideal situation would be to charge the car at work during the week days (where I could possible scum it without paying) and then use the car as a big battery to run the house off it at night time - although I understand this technology isn't quite fully available yet. You don't even need to do that much to get way over 500 if you buy the full Revo or Racingline bits and bobs. All bolt ons and software basically. I will not be doing that, though I might do all the breathing mods that aren't a turbo if I keep it a really long time. Stock brakes and suspension and at least 390ps, what's the worst that can happen? Seriously though - I'd love a map that made all the low/mid torque changes without going for peak power, the only bit that bugs me is overtaking, even dropping gears. Apparently without changing anything else the version you have remaps to 330-ish, the 280 goes to 350-370-ish, but with a broader torque band. Start changing bits and the 280 version goes a lot further more easily. However what's allowed depends on the gearbox - the 7-speed DSG in Helen's Kodiaq (same engine as yours but at 180bhp) can only stand 240bhp or so, the 6-speed in mine can cope with pretty much whatever. Internet facts! Well, the DSG bits, the power stuff I got from racing line (because my Skoda dealer resells it) and it ties up with Revo and so on

I still do not have my Lexus. LATEST NEWS - 1) On the subject of the second key, it turns out that coding keys for this car is expensive, even the local independent key wizard wants £360 for a second key (fuck knows what Lexus would charge), the dealer has agreed to get this done, but it's a special order type thing. Hopefully done in the next week. 2) VSC was apparently fixed by a local auto-electrical place (didn't have to go to Lexus), but then the VSC light came back on whilst they were getting the other stuff looked at. Car is now going to go back to the auto-electrical place. No definite ETA on this one but hopefully done in the next week also. Other things are fixed. It has also had two new rear tyres fitted. In the meantime the Camry continues to work perfectly. It's now over a month since I paid the deposit but I'm chilled about the whole thing, as my car usage is trivial these days, so I'll just camp it out. In fairness the dealer has been communicative and upfront about what's going on, and I can't imagine there's much (if any) profit for them left in this car now, but they're seeing it out to a conclusion that's where I want to be with it, so I'm content.

Well obviously they set out to make a profit on the car, I'm not suggesting they're in the business of losing money on cars as a charitable activity. Realistically though, how much profit did they have in a four grand Lexus? They're giving me £500 for the Camry and I can't imagine them punting that back out at more than a grand, so there's maybe £500 in that for them. Thereafter what they've had to spend on the Lexus adds up a bit, and probably more than they envisaged at the time the sale was agreed, and they haven't even sorted the VSC warning yet.

Mrs Z's RAV4 is having issues with the clutch, took it to garage last weekend and bleeding the fluid helped the pedal action but it's getting worse again. Hopefully not a new clutch DMF required.
