So what are you doing - supercharger, turbocharger or V8?

That reminds me, the mg b GT V6 is pretty much done, just needs a cooling fan and a test drive now.

That gauge is going to be tricky to see when you're driving along.

It’s what the dash cam is pointing at.

:p that's the most recent picture but that gauge is now in the dash. And yes, there's hose clips on the lower rad hoses.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Only an extra 4BHP from the blue hoses. Why didn't you take the 7BHP red ones?

Author:  krazywookie [ Fri Jul 24, 2020 12:47 ]
Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Red is for racing, this car is underground/Street so we needed the blue for that.

There's probably a ton of money in black hose that's fake-fraying.a

I lost a lot of money in the 90s investing in fake-fraying.a.

I do love those convertible MINIs.

I had a 2006 Cooper S for a brief while and it was tremendously good fun.

Rear visibility was shite with the roof up though, something they apparently fixed (or made better, at least) in the later models.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

It’s not the best, especially when turning right at a junction where you need to look back. I solve that by mostly having the roof down.

No problems when parking as it has a reversing camera.

I have it, it's pretty close to immaculate and the interior is like new. Drives really well and it's weird to drive an MX5 with a non-fucked gearbox, every other one I've had has been 80000 miles plus.

If Paul can use and afford his own phone text him back to buy his own fucking fuel.

Author:  Joans [ Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:11 ]
Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

This sounds unnecessary. Doesn't a car typically get to the point it needs fuel when it's using fuel, i.e. when you're sat in it. Or does it text you while you're driving, which seems a bit over the top. I guess it's handy if you've leant your car to someone (or it's been stolen), but that seems a bit of a niche scenario.

I've done a couple of hundred miles in the MX5 now, very happy with it!

Jobs done so far:
The aftermarket wind deflector that is fitted works very well at deflecting wind, but is terrible at anything else. You lose the storage space that the OEM one has, when it's up it blooks the rear view mirror, when it's down and you put the roof down, you can't pull it up as the roof sits on top of it. Luckily the OEM one was in the boot (bubble wrapped and in perfect condition!) so i've put that back on.
It had a chrome gearstick, which looked nice, but i've had one before in the MR2 and it's terrible to actually use. It gets too hot in summer and too cold in winter. I kept a sock in the MR2 to put over it in summer when I got in the car on a hot day, as you couldn't touch it. Again, OEM one was in the glove box, so i've put that back on.

Jobs to do:
It was last serviced 2000 miles ago... which was 3 years ago... so i'll get it serviced at some point soon.
Tyres all have loads of tread on them... but are all 6+ years old, so they could do with replacing really.
Radio has a dodgy connection, so some of the buttons don't work. I've ordered a chinese LED wonder from Amazon for £30, that does bluetooth streaming, hands free calls, SD card etc...
I'm mildly tempted to replace all the bushes, as I expect they are the originals. It drives well enough, but feels a little soft. However if I startdown that road, then the super cheap MX5 becomes less cheap by the day :D

Anyone want a hat? It came with 2 MX5 owners club hats, a beanie and a baseball cap...

That's one of the best/worst (delete according to preference) examples of Chinglish I've seen.

I was going to get some sort of dodgy double-DIN Chinese hackers thing for the Camry but for the time I spend in there (i.e. not much at all) I've decided to just go back to CDs, since we still have our (extensive) CD collection in an airing cupboard.

Listening to entire albums, there's a thing.
