Not as fuel efficient as going everywhere at 0mph. My normal mileage is around 1,200 miles per month, and I have to fill up the Yaris' tank about once a week. Nearly two months on one tank so far and I've still got about a quarter of it left. |

I put in £25 in mid-March. Lasted until last week. I then filled up so should be good until September now. I have been taking Sal to work and picking her up every day, so I’m probably driving more regularly than before, but not doing any medium or long trips at all. |

Yeah, I normally use half a tank a week. Entered lockdown around march 23rd (work started sending people home before mandatory) with about half a tank (modern VAG senders are colossal liars) and I filled it up on Saturday without even getting into the red. Insurance renewal coming up, I'm planning on removing commuting use and declaring 2000 miles; a confused quote got LV out at £175! I'm with them already, £290 the year. All the fearmongering about tax hikes this year, mine has come in at just over £13/mo, up from just under £13/mo. |

Finally got the driver’s seat back into the Celica, after buying two other sets of second hand rails off eBay that didn’t fit. Bought some proper Bride rails from Japan, and they fit perfectly - as one would hope for the bloody money paid for them. Just gotta charge the battery now and hopefully it’ll still all be alright! |

That looks purdy. I had a lovely drive this afternoon, the superb really comes alive when everything is put in sport and manual and then you hold the traction control button down for 5 seconds. It's due an oil service, I really need to accidentally get Startin Skoda to put the ECU and TCU remaps on while they're at it, now they're Racing Line resellers. |

I'd be staring hard at that 9.9% interest rate. As ever with Beemers, they're quite spec sensitive. I'd want the Pro Nav package as the standard one is shite apparently. Stereo upgrade to Harmann would be good too. Check it's not on run-flat tyres as apparently they ruin the ride. I also understand that those 330E's don't actually produce the economy you expect, so if you're doing the miles, get a diesel. Other than that, I'd go petrol, but then I do fuckall mileage per annum. Hang on, I noticed the annual mileage is down on those links as 6k pa. I'd get a petrol. The straight six in my M140i did mid 20s around town and high 30s on a run, which for the performance always boggled my mind. |

A three year old 3 series is unlikely to be giving you too much shit. I've no direct experience of the Hybrid ones, so it's possible they may be a little more flaky than the petrol/diesel version. I've had a *lot* of BMWs over the years (admittedly not usually for the long haul) and the only ones that have ever given me any problems are the M cars and the older models. I know, I know, anecdotes are not data. That said, If you do look at extended warranties, I can strongly recommend you get the BMW Mondial warranty (or whatever they call it these days) rather than the Motorpoint one. It has certain entry requirements (mileage being one, both those cars would be fine - the other major one is that it has to have been serviced on time and on schedule at BMW dealers, but they do sometimes allow exceptions to this rule) The big advantage with the BMW warranty is that they basically just sort it straight away, don't really ask any questions, and don't expect you to pay for it and then be reimbursed when the warranty claim goes through, which tends to be the case with third-party warranties. |

My next door neighbour's 69 plate hybrid has broken down twice and took weeks to fix, but that's a sample size of 1 so isn't particularly reliable. |

Yeah, I guess there's always the possibility of a lemon. According to Autocar's buyer's guide, this 3 series ('12-'18) is considered the most reliable 3 series since the '99-'06 models. |

NEW CAR GET. TL:DR - we're working from home forever now, so keeping the i30N seems daft since more than anything I bought it for my daily blast (commute) over the mountain to Douglas and back. Bloody thing has lost over £1000 in value since we started working from home in March. As such I've sold it back to the dealer for cash (and yes I took a hosing on it), and bought a twenty year old Toyota Camry off a mate for £900. It's got 74000 miles on it and a has been really, really well looked after. Quite a nice, comfortable car in fairness, and this generation of Camry has legendary reliability. FOUR SPEED AUTOMATIC for maximum excitement. It also has a CASSETTE DECK and one of those new fangled CD player things. Attachment: cammers1.JPG Attachment: cammers2.JPG

In Fop's endless fumbling around a new car*, we're now veering into the idea of having two cars, given I expect to be WFH more in the future so two cars should be helpful for dividing and conquering school runs and Mrs Fop's work. So we're now considering a second-hand BMW i3, given 90% of our journeys are sub-100 miles. Also, it looks fucking cool. That or the Renault Zoe, which is much less cool, and much cheaper, but you need to lease the battery. But now Boris has muttered something about £6k scrappage relief when you switch to a new electric. Which I don't think we'd do, because of the need for two cars, but I do wonder the impact it will have on used electric car prices. *Say what you like about Hearthly, at least he knows how to shit or get off the pot. |
