Driver-controlled, not aero - probably meets the rules (until they change the rules)

The description of toe is camber, not toe. Or incompetent.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Yeah, that’s camber. I was reading DB’s description scratching my head as toe-out really isn’t a thing to help with stability.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

I'm unsure if it affects toe or camber, as they call it toe and talk about the outside edge wear on the straights, but they also describe the actual action it does which is a camber adjustment, which wouldn't make that difference.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

You’d get even wear with the camber neutral, that’s another reason to have it flat on the straights (as well as more surface area of tyre touching the road).

If you had negative camber all the time you’d end up with uneven wear (more on the inside of the tyre), which is why it’s always a trade off between corner stability and even wear/straight line speed.

Toe in would wear on the outside, I believe. But this must be talking about camber as I can’t imagine why toe in would help with corner stability.

Because drag on the front tyres at speed forces toe out so you need toe in for the straights but toe in on corners promotes understeer so you want to toe out a bit. I think a lot of people are confusing toe and camber.

Had a very nice drive back from Bolton with my new Auris. Everything just feels so solid and quiet. Stereo sounds good too. So odd getting used to a new car, I’m sure after a week at work it’ll all be second nature.

Just been out taking few bits and pieces of my Leon now before she goes to scrappers... feels very ghoulish :(

We have a Toyota Yaris, and the bloody thing has about 8 storage compartments in the front. I once lost a set of keys for about 2 weeks because there was a little wonky drawer tucked down below the steering wheel I had forgotten about. It's frankly a little silly.

Roughly 6 miles. It maintained temperature reasonably well, pulled well, didn't pink or knock or throw all the coolant out. I picked a set of jets about 12 sizes up from what was in there, pretty much at random and it seems to have fixed all the problems. Pleased is me

That’s promising, fingers crossed.

Auris update after a week of ownership:
Fuel gauge was very pleasing at first until it hurtles down to empty from the 3/4 full mark. Felt gutted I only got 355 miles out of first tank but then I realised that when I filled up it cost me £20 less than my Leon, so not too bad really.
Cig lighter doesn’t work :( so no usb charging for now.
Tempted to change springs to lower cg and stiffen it up a bit... but to be honest it’s a nice comfy drive. And I’m broke from using all savings to get it.
Noticed it suffers from a common Auris problem of leaky boot due to rear light cluster seals going. Simple to fix and tube of clear silicon already bought to sort it out.
So far so good though, overall I’m impressed with it for the money, kids and Mrs Z like it too.

Leon goes tomorrow for £300.

The tinkering has begun on the Auris!

Double DIN head unit out and replaced (for now) with my Panasonic CD/iPod/USB single DIN stereo. The new fascia will also take a 7"(8"?) Android stereo/GPS thingy so no doubt that's what my birthday money will go on (unless were all still fighting over bog roll/Milk/Pasta).

My boot has been TRANSFORMED! Not only did I reconnect the boot light, which was very dim and yellow, I remembered I had a bag of assorted LED car bulbs in the garage so now my boot is so bright I gotta wear shades.

It was almost a pleasure to service the RAV4 today, due to its ride height it’s all doable without jacking it up.
Felt bad for realising I’ve never changed the cabin filter before today, looked like it’d never been changed at all! Should have kept the old one for kindling.

If you're not using the car then yes, I'd not consider it essential travel.

Although I guess it depends where the service is (Just Service?) and whether the garage is even open!

You can imagine how TRULY DELIGHTED I am about this.

Extra annoying is I am still having to go into the office on some days and before this came in it was jolly lovely to pretty much have the mountain road to myself.

40mph. FORTY MILES PER HOUR.

Have you contacted them? Retailers are closed, some service centres are staying open, but mainly for essential servicing for essential vehicles.

You might not have a choice as to whether you reschedule...

Don't worry, his car is packed with roll cages and Hans devices and he only drives on roads that are closed to the public. It's not like he's putting random other road users at risk.

No wait. The other thing.

I guess they're just assuming that people will stick to the speed limit?

Otherwise yes - like you say - it doesn't really make much sense.
