I got range anxiety for the first time in my Leaf on Saturday. I set off back home from golf knowing that I only had an eight mile surplus of range to get me home. I could have stopped off but decided to go for it. Keeping a keen eye on the predicted range and the miles left to go on Google maps it ended up more or less exactly like that bit in Apollo 13 as I drifted through the endless 38 mile void between Chorley and Fleetwood switching off all non-essential electrical systems as I went. No heating, nothing but minimal life support in the form of headlights. Made it, though. Was fun. |

Hnrgh, head being turned by the leaf e+ tekna, which manages 239 miles, 0-60 in a not terrible 7 seconds, bells and whistles like semi autonomous driving and heated steering wheel, and can be had new for about 32k. |

Are you leasing or buying? I like my Leaf a lot, they're just decent unassuming little cars but if I was thinking of spending that much I'd surely find the rest and get a Tesla Model 3 instead. Apart from anything else I feel pretty confident that the desirability of those cars will mean that the value when it comes time to change again will be a lot higher. Or get a used Model S with free supercharging. |

The ProPilot on the new LEAF Tekna is good, but also surprisingly annoying - it's just the wrong side of naggy IMO. Other than that, it's a good upgrade on the previous shape LEAF, but I wouldn't spend £32K on one - see if you can get a second-hand one for cheaper, they should be available for around £22K based on the last time I looked. I bought my original LEAF Tekna (the original 24 kWh 6.6kW charging one) on a 2 year PCP from new, and they discounted it down to £18K from the £32K (I think) list price at the time - it makes sense with discounts like that, but at £32K it takes a lot longer to pay for itself... |

Having a right nightmare with the Celica seat. Seemed like the rails were completely stuffed, with the seat roller bearings just generally not working on the one side. Bought a new pair of Recaro seat rails, but they're longer than the ones that were attached to the seat and I'm not 100% sure I've bolted them on to the seats the right way up, but either way the new rails don't line up with the bolting points on the actual base that bolts to the car. Hnnnnnngh. I'm wondering whether I'm going to need to drill some holes in the new rails, but that seems like it would make them less safe - but then I see loads of people online say they do that all the time and it's kind of expected. Why is nothing ever simple? |

Ah, didn't spot the "e+" bit - wasn't aware that was even a new model. Apparently it's just got a longer range and better performance, but other than that is more or less the same car - can you justify the additional outlay for the extra range? |

Ack, it is a big difference, you're right. But the additional range pretty much puts it into the category of a car that's suitable for our needs. Too many reasonably journeys would be a pain in the hole at the lower range. |

Yeah, you'll probably be able to get pretty near but not in winter and definitely not at motorway/dual carriageway speeds. Also consider that frequently charging to full and running to near empty is bad for the life of the battery. So if you're planning to regularly make say a 200 mile round trip without charging I'd say it's almost certainly not a car you should buy. |

Journeys like that would only be a few times a year. Perhaps need to hold tight for a year or so until some more model 3s and the like start entering the market (S is too big a car for us). We will see! Thank you very much the advice, folks. |

What would be your average daily mileage, do you reckon? If it's within the range of the standard "new" LEAF, Tekna or otherwise (169 miles I think?) then that might be a good shout. Stopping on the motorway to rapid charge on longer journeys can be a bit of a crapshoot, but I always found taking the 30 minutes out to charge at a motorway services was a welcome break (no pun intended) anyway. |

Fuck all on a day to day basis, maybe 20 miles. But will do a few 60 mile each way journeys a month, which I'd be a bit anxious about on the smaller battery. |

The i30N is in for its first service tomorrow, I've put 6500 miles on it so it's now got 8000 on the clock and is 12 months old. (It started bonging at me earlier in the month saying it wanting a service in 28 days so I got it booked in.) I'm expecting a basic oil and filter change, although I suspect I'll be told the front tyres need changing soonish (which they do). With four years manufacturer's warranty remaining it's a fairly chilled out experience, since anything that needs doing (outside of wear and tear) will be warranty work anyway. (Although it's running perfectly so I'm not anticipating any trouble.) |

('This service is going to cost a fortune, may as well just change cars to SAVE MONEY.') As ever I'm always looking around at cars that take my interest but the i30N is just such a good car it's hard to see what might actually replace it and not be a downgrade in several key areas. |
