Yeah they look awesome but it was miles under power, the build quality was shit, the design was shit, the gearbox was horrible in terms of feel. It was an estate. Any engine that uses a balance shaft to compensate for an inherently unbalanced design can fuck off. Put me off Mitsubishi's for life that did. |

1987 VW Polo - epic car. Loved it to bits. Some crap Peugeot 206 - hated it beyond belief. It was the first car I spent proper money on as well BMW 316i - enjoyable if expensive to maintain for what it was. Got t-boned by some chav prick at a roundabout and then it was gone. Ford Puma - amazing car, but clutch gave in so we dumped it Volvo V40 - I do like estate cars. It died at 150k miles or so from dead engine syndrome. Toyota Wish - as in "I wish I had another car". And that's it, I think. |

1986 Metro 1.3. I bought this before I had passed my test. Got a full MG set up for it (seats, belts, carpets, steering wheel, wheels etc etc) was a lovely little car. Sadly my friend's baby girl died so I ditched the lessons and sold the car. 1980s F150 5.7 V8. I had this for about a week, then the oil pump died. Problem was it has a brace in the way and you have to pull the whole fucking engine to repair it. 1992 Ford Taurus. Quite possibly the most unreliable car I owned (though that's not too hard given I had four total) It had the head gasket done on a recall before I got it. I repainted it, new starter, new exhaust, new brakes and then the wheel bearings went. Sold to my pa in law and three months later the tranny died. 1998 Hyundai Tiburon (the 2l one). Amazing car. Pretty much bomb proof, never breaking down once in the 3 years I had it. Well, it did, but each time it was my fault (air hoses coming apart and etc where I hadn't done them up enough). Other than that though I thrashed the absolute bejesus out of it and it never died. |

I have checked the pressures of all four tyres about five times now, before, during, and after a drive - comparing what TPMS says as opposed to what a proper high quality tyre pressure gauge says, and TPMS is always within 1-2 PSI of what the gauge reads. As such I conclude that TPMS works well and is a handy system, so I don't understand what's wrong with it. |

Quite a few cars I’ve driven in the last 10 years (and I mean prosaic cars, not >£50k sports cars) are really susceptible to noticeable handling traits if the tyre pressure is out by even that little. Plus uneven tyre wear. You won’t need worry about this last part ;o) |

Hey here's a nice little quality of life thing on the i30. I'm not saying no other car does this, but I've never seen one that does. Basically, whenever you do anything to the lights or the wipers, you get a graphic in the display to show what setting you're on. For example with the wipers one can see that they're in 'AUTO - Speed 2', and then you change to Speed 3 and you get a graphic that shows 'AUTO - Speed 3', same idea with the lights. It's a pleasant touch as it saves trying to look at the stalks to work out what setting something is on. Screenshot is taken from Doug MeMuro's review of the Veloster N which has the same instrument cluster. Attachment: dougo.JPG

Initial thoughts on the MX5 Everything works! Heated seats, electric windows, radio etc…. It’s been a fair old while since I’ve bought a car where everything actually works… It drives really well, very tight, no weird noises, gear change is nice and solid, handling is very positive and predictable. The sill repair is a very good job, so hopefully will last a while. I’ve got receipts for the timing belt change 20k miles ago, and an LSD rebuild 30k ago. The only issue is that the hood is obviously original and isn’t quite as taught as it used to be. It’s watertight but looks tired. If I keep the car long term I’ll look at getting it replaced, but it’s about £500 for a glass screen fitted for a mk2, so it seems a bit of a waste of money while it is still watertight! All in all, very happy. I’ll get a service done as the last one was 2 years ago at 81k (car is currently on 88k), but other than that, all good. |
