When I went to buy my first CD player (the first CD player in our house) in 1992 my mum decided to come along to “haggle”.

She tried to “haggle” me some blank cds to record onto. Way ahead of her time, my mum.

Why would a Cambridge car dealer give a discount to an IOM car dealer?

Why wouldn't he. If they have someone phone up and offer £24k for a trouble free trade sale then that's a good option for them.

On the upside, you can phone the original dealer and ask if it has TPMS

It has TPMS, I am willing it into existence on the Fastback.

Also another thing that Hyundai fucked up, the ISOFIX is missing from the Fastback spec, but it's definitely got it.

The omens are good for TPMS.

Damn these old Ford’s sailing through their MOTs. I say every year my 16 year focus will fail and I’ll buy something new, and every year it passes it’s MOT with no advisories. In fact it’s only failed once, for a damaged tyre wall, which required a new tyre. Not a deal breaker.

I think you're underestimating what a feisty little number the i30N is. Whilst it doesn't look particularly bonkers, it's pushing out 275bhp, has a proper diff, and can be put into 'N' mode which is basically track mode. 0-60 is 6 seconds, it's limited to 155mph, and it has launch control.

It leaves a Golf GTi for dead and isn't that much slower than a Type-R round a track.

I loved the ST to bits, the i30N Fastback is basically just a shinier, newer riff on that, with a very sexy bottom.

It's also loaded with all the tech and toys you could possibly want.

Standard issue pics, I've been taking pics of my cars at this spot for many years now.

I've only put 25 miles on it since collection, so can't give a comprehensive report (yes I know that must be upsetting), but it's pretty much what I was expecting in terms of driving. Basically very much like the ST but with a bit more power, and the diff definitely helps it pull out of corners. I haven't seen the high side of 100mph yet through.

The driving mode selection works very well, NORMAL turns it into a nicely compliant standard car, SPORT gets a bit more spicy and N MODE is pretty crackers, although not as remorselessly so as 'R' mode in the Type-R. (There's also ECO and N CUSTOM, I'll be having a proper play about with N CUSTOM tomorrow.)

Tech wise it's got all the toys, a nice big touchscreen that does swipey iPad style stuff, and the factory fit sound system is about average I'd say.

The exhaust is a bit hooligan-esque in N mode, but the juvenile side of me rather likes it. (In N CUSTOM mode I could dial back the exhaust if I wanted to.)

Two years. Minimum.

It's not the worst factory fit system I've heard, but it's certainly not the best* either. Standard issue two speakers front and rear, and two tweeters in the A pillars.

Thing is though, for my usage it'll be fine, since I pretty much just have trance on 100% of the time, so it's not like I'm trying to appreciate the nuances of one of Beethoven's finest symphonies.

A quick Google around reveals multiple guides/recommendations on how to improve the factory fit system in the i30N, but it's fine for my usage scenario as is.

* The Citroen C6 I had was the best factory fit system I've ever heard, it had about 86352 speakers and a seriously meaty sub with its own amplifier and some sort of pre-amp or something. It was fucking bananas good, those crazy French.

The Harmon Kardon in my Mini is brilliant. I'd been pleased with the Canton upgrade in my Octavia but this blows it away.

Yes that's the fella, splendid things, technological marvels.

It all just makes the car nicer to drive.

A mate at work recently got a BMW M140i, and by his own admission, even though he really wanted a bonkers mental rear wheel drive car (it puts 335bhp to the rear wheels in what is basically a standard hatchback), he concedes it has 'too much power' and is an unruly fucker to keep under control.

I'd rather be on the i30N side of the fence than the M140i side of the fence.

Lovely car H. I love Hyundai arses as well. They always get them bang on. Love the colour too, very unusual.

I fell in love with mine. I even named it, and frequently patted the dashboard after it had successfully transported me 700 miles in one sitting (well two, the tank was poxy in it).

I always wondered why there were so many used cars for sale in the USA with 130-180k miles on them. Then I realised they change their oil and get a service every 5000 miles and 3000 when the car gets older. Shit, I did road trips where I had the oil changed before I left and when it got back.

They even threw in a free car wash, coffee and donuts while you waited too. And 25 bucks, who's going to argue? (oh and they topped up all your fluids and even vacuumed the front carpets!.)

I'm the opposite, I quite like the shape and some of the sporty style added little details, but I don't like the colour.

Also, my boss has an i30 as a company car (dunno what spec, probably middling) and she drives it so slowly everywhere.
