Yeah I can't move the crane at all, I rolled the chassis there and there it will stay until I can figure out how to move it, maybe flat bed transit. That's all the main welding done though, just the trailing arm mount plates to put on and some seat belt brackets and shit. Guess I need a roll hoop at least as well. While the body's off I'll replace all the brake pipes and fit the big engine but before that I need to plonk the body on temporarily so I can figure out the locations for the new body mount posts, the old ones had rusted completely off. Chassis will hold all brake and fuel lines, separable in one place so it's easy to take the body off and on and all the wiring will be inside the body not clipped underneath the chassis. If I had another couple weeks to play on it I'd probably get it driveable but I'm back to work Tuesday so it'll probably go back to sitting still for a while. Mimi the fences are usually laid out to coralle teeny wooklet in the garden. They're made out of old pallets so were a free and easy way to make a fence and in summer when the grass needs cutting you just kick them out the way! |

Need to get rid of this grey box of a car and get something that’s a bit more interesting to drive. I will never get another diesel. It’s either petrol or fully electric once they come down in price. |

Took this out for a test drive today, it's a mid-2014 BMW 335i Luxury. (From the same place that had the Jaguar, I didn't get to drive that one as the day I had allocated for it I ended up on a job in one of our data centres for 8 hours that should have taken 2-3.) It's a really nice car, no doubt about it, although even though it's top spec Luxury model, in typical BMW fashion there are still plenty of options for it to be missing, specifically it has the base nav package (which comes with a smaller screen), the base speaker package (which has two upgrade options), manual seats, no reverse camera and suchlike. The options it does have are some fancy paint, upgraded interior with extra wood and stitched leather, and the £1800 8-speed auto. In a straight line it's pretty nippy (3 litre straight-six turbo, 306bhp to the rear wheels, 0-60 takes 5.2 seconds), although it wasn't as sharp as the ST and I immediately missed the support of the Recaros going through the corners at any sort of speed. IOM car from new, 31000 miles, full service history, computer says green lights across the board for everything, all services recorded and correct, and very reasonably priced at £15.5K, although I was rather disappointed at the offer of £9.5K for the ST. (He did correctly identify he'll need to put two new front tyres on it though, and the BMW has recently had four new tyres.) I didn't make a decision on the spot, he indicated he'd move a bit on the price if needs be but I'll not be looking at less than £5500 to make the switch. For the moment I'm thinking on it, I liked it very much but it didn't set my world on fire, however the cabin is a very classy place to be, and I've always had a soft spot for Q-cars. Sounds like a shit spec for the price, bin it. The "Luxury" model is just a designation, it has very little impact on the actual standard equipment levels in most cases. My 530d GT was a Luxury model and I think literally the only difference between a standard Luxury and a standard base trim (SE I think?) is that the seats had different leather on them and some funky stitching on the seat back. Oh, and I think it had a softer suspension setup. |

Looking at the list here the Luxury does seem to be the top trim level, albeit still with loads of possible extras. (You can see it right down near the bottom, £40K before options!) The German marques always have been arseholes for this though, I remember being surprised at how basic the base model Audi S4s could be if not optioned up. TBH the seats alone put me off, even though they were nice leather seats, I've really got used to Recaros in the ST and chucking the 335i through a corner didn't feel right at all, the side bolsters just aren't there in any significant capacity. (Apparently the Sport trim rectifies this.) Also, I'm increasingly convinced I just don't like automatics, there's a lot to be said for a nice tight, sharp, manual 6 speed box. I always feel a lot more in control in a manual. (Which I suppose I am, technically.) It doesn't matter how many different modes they put on autos, COMFORT, SPORT, ECO, etc - none of them are just right and the fuckers will always change gears at some point when you don't want them to, unless you use the paddles to go manual, at which point you may as well just be in a manual. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/b ... 2012/data/ Attachment: bemmo.JPG

The thread had an '@' notification for me, how clever! I checked over the weekend and the proper Stinger is holding at £30K, rather annoyingly. I could just about stretch out to that but it'd leave the bank accounts a bit on the sparse side, £25K is where I'd be more comfortable at. Also, we need to get some shit done to the house, which will cost a few quid. TBH the ST is a really good car, it's going to take something pretty nice to persuade me to change. |
