Tis a nice place is Chi. Good atmosphere too, especially during summer :) Some ace coffee shops there if that is your thing.

Also, my Focus ST passed her MOT this morning with no advisories again.

That's just the prats behind the steering wheels. Even the M5 and M6 are pretty good around corners (although my M5 Touring was very boat like, but it's an estate so what do you expect? :P)

The M2 is apparently one of the best handling cars in its class, and I can well believe it.

Quite possibly! Although they must exclusively be driven by prats over here then as they go much slower around the bends than I'd have thought they need to. This M2 took off rapidly in a straight line (typically of male drivers, he clearly wasn't that bothered about racing home until I'd caught him up).

I find that a lot of people who try and 'race' the Celica (irrelevant of the car they're driving) are alright on the straight but come to a corner and they slam the brakes on.

That's probably because they don't have 4WD.

I don't go any faster around the corners in the Celica than I did in my previous cars - too many cyclists/tractors/etc to risk it. The only difference is the knobbers who think I want to race but ultimately can't drive to save their life.

I think you'll find it is "Goodwood FOS presented by Mastercard" this year, because i'm sure they had a lot to do with setting it up...

So, Goodwood has paid for priority parking spots which it labels “performance” car parks. The only perk being you’re a lot closer to the site. Stumbled upon one near the top of the paddock area yesterday afternoon and holy shit there was A LOT of expensive cars in there including countless Porsche’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Bentleys, Rollers and McLaren's. And by expensive, there was a McLaren P1, LaFerrari and a Bugatti Chiron amidst the 100 or so other cars getting dusty in the small field with a lot of members of the public smearing their sweaty noses over them. Some pics when I’ve got a decent signal

I managed to bring the Superb up to 38mpg (since refuel) by sitting at a cruise controlled 70mph for 180 miles over the weekend.

The kodiaq does worse despite a 7 speed dsg and 60 miles of motorway (fucked up by roadworks, granted) each day, but still better than the mx5.

Why are you going for something so small after having such a large car?

Mainly because the size of the GT made it a tough drive around here. Shrewsbury and Telford aren't so bad, but Ironbridge and Broseley are full of horribly thin windy roads, and twice I've scraped the passenger side mirror on walls because someone didn't agree that I had the right of way and just kept on coming at me.

Parallel parking (or indeed any sort of parking) is a bastard too with the size of parking spaces that we have here.

To throw a spanner in the proverbial works, I've not signed on any dotted lines for the Yaris yet, and now I've seen that I can get a (much higher mileage) Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for around the same price.

Which is a much bigger car than the Yaris (yet still smaller than the GT) and has a massive boot, especially with the seats folded down (and is completely flat too)

It'll also get me mostly to work and back on electric power only.

Hnnnngh. I used to enjoy car shopping, back when I bought cars purely based on the enjoyment of driving them ;)

Well the reasons you posted above for getting rid of the BMW suggested you simply needed a smaller car - but to go to one as small as a Yaris seemed a touch extreme.

That said, I can't imagine the Phev is much smaller than the BMW is it?

Anyway, Yaris vs Phev, Phev winz.

I've decided on the Yaris, on the basis that it'll still have 2 years of Toyota warranty left on it and has only 25,000 miles on the clock, whereas any PHEV I get would be closer or above 100,000 miles and have no warranty other than whatever shite the dealer sticks on it prior to sale (which will not be a manufacturer warranty, and therefore not worth the paper it's printed on)

The Outlander PHEV is shit to drive and the battery is shit.

I got my neighbours pun wrong, he doesn't call it Blandrover he calls it Outblander. Absolutely despises the thing.

I drove the pool one from Malvern to Shrewsbury and back and concur.

After putting it in Charge mode to get the battery charged it got me way under the 15 miles from home to work the next day in normal mixed mode - and this is a 67 plate so little wear on the battery!

So we looked at online reviews and asked for advice and did some research, and then chucked it all away and the missus ended up getting a little Ford StreetKa, and I will be commuting in the Kia. It's basically "My First Sportscar", and it's an older model and a bit wonky in places, but she's been hooning it around the local country lanes shouting "weeeeeeeeeeee!", so I guess it's doing it's job.

Yeah, he seems to have some real issues. Calling that guy a paedophile just because he slagged off his submarine was unbelievable. I mean I probably still prefer him to most billionaires and I like that he tries to do good things sometimes but he could really do with someone helping him to be a bit less of a cunt about it.

None within budget with the spec I was after. I did have a look around one and they're not actually that much bigger than the Yaris.

The Yaris is bigger these days than the first models, but still would be too small for me. I suspect will be too small for you too, but it's your decision. :)

New Leaf is obviously the correct choice. I'm trying to see if I can afford one.

They want far too much money per month for it (about £450 for the range topper) which considering I was paying £236 per month for the range-topper a couple of years ago is shash.

If the new one was available for £236 per month, it'd have been a no brainer.

Thought about leasing? It seems a bit cheaper. The PCP deals on Nissan's site seem utterly bonkers.

It is cheaper, but still not cheap enough - for the money per month (including fuel costs and insurance) I can have the Yaris, and not have to worry about range.

I used to have a Yaris and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. No issues with fitting inside and GazChap and I are similar heights.

That's good, at least.

I'm sure it'll be fine. It's just not very Gazchap. And since he gave his Celica to Jem I worry.

Nah. Plenty of room inside. The only issue on the test drive was that the steering wheel rubbed against my legs, but when we got back to the dealership the guy showed me how to "extend" the steering column which solved that issue completely.

And thinking about it, I don't actually need a huge car - I can count on one hand the number of times I've needed to fold the rear seats down in the GT, and most of those were trips to the recycling centre which aren't that urgent any more. Trips to IKEA might be an issue, but we don't really need anything now and if we do I can just borrow a van for the day or something.

Lonewolves wrote:

None of my recent cars have been very "me" really - to go LEAF to diesel to hybrid... plus I've kept all of my recent cars for at least a year (well, just under for the GT) which is also unheard of for me!

I did not notice at the time the dust cap was missing so I'll have to buy one now.
