You'd be spending that much to buy another car though wouldn't you?

Nope. If I am then I'll be walking everywhere.

Does it have to be Mondeo size?

Would you be better with a little van? Are you still doing the delivery jobs mate?

Vans are too expensive to run. £2-4k a year for insurance.

Try and find an old Honda Accord maybe? The VTECs are unpoppable and on the whole the cars are incredibly reliable.

Friend of a friend is buying it for £460, so that's something at least.

They can get really tatty though.

I see quite a few 6th generation Accords (98-02) driving around here that are still in really good nick, and they must well cheap as onions now.

Onions are cheap. Whenever I buy onions I think to myself, 'You get loads of onions for not much cash'.

Honda Accord is the way to go and I say that as an authority on cars because I've owned them all.

(FACT - I owned a 6th gen Accord back in the early 2000s. It was a good car.)

Yeah onions are cheap. Humans on the mainland say cheap as chips, not heard your expression before.

Like accords, like most Hondas really. We had a civic for years.

They will happily do 200k miles.

I don't have a grand. Was looking for something closer to £500 but it appears from my research that is unrealistic.

I may have to live without for a while.

It's ok, there's no carpet, what you're seeing is mostly rusty metal which is, of course, completely sterile.

@myp get yourself some rolling scrap, late 80s early 90s non luxury Jap or German. They go on forever and parts are cheap. They look like shit but you get to be inflamed with incandescent rage and indignation when some petty arse hole complains that it's parked too near their flat and "looks like it's been stolen and abandoned". The fucker sees me driving around in it and it's a public Street with no parking restrictions. Prick.
Plus at that age they've accrued enough "driving this so I don't buy a new car" to off set the carbon foot print of a chain smoking dinosaur and enough misdirected anthropomorphic love to actually have a soul. Cars that go to scrap too early don't get into heaven.

Aye, I'm actually looking at c2000 VW Bora TDI 1.9. a bit better looking than the Mondeo estate, but I've still not ruled that out.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Factory ordering cars is ridiculous. It took skoda a full 5 weeks to assign a build week, and even now that's happened they can't give me better than "delivery probably in June".

I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem if everyone else in Europe hadn't also decided to get out of diesel at the same time.

Meanwhile the cut off date for altering the disco spec was brought forward 10 days. Hopefully that's the Jag sales slump working in our favour and the build/delivery have also been brought forward!

I realise this is problems scaling new heights of first-worldness, but who has to wait this long for anything anymore!?
