I nipped out for some firelighters this morning and bought a new car. It's a funny spearmint colour. I'm going to be ever so disappointed if when I get it home on Friday and can give it a lick, it doesn't taste like soft mints. :D

Oh, no, I've not bought one - Jem would slice me up into tiny cubes and feed me to the cats.

I just meant the "going out for not-a-car and coming back with-a-car" situation, which I've found myself in many times over the past few years ;)

Thanks guys. I do have a Titanium already (not the X) but it's approaching 80k miles now. It also needs work doing for the MOT in a couple of weeks, so decided to spend the money on an upgrade instead.

I don't really like reversing sensors, but having the camera on makes a massive difference. It's like it has two boots too!

Took me a second to engage my brain when I was trying to turn the engine off and there were no keys in the ignition!

I don't think so, there is some sort of parking button, but I don't know what it does get.

I'm not sure I would trust the magic parking. :S

But why would the front and back ones be separate?

Anyway, tune in on Friday for an exciting update!

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Rear parking sensors come on automatically when you go into reverse. Front ones normally need to be activated manually when you are parking forwards as you’d get them going off all the time when driving in traffic.

I haven't found that in the cars I've had with front sensors, the cars have been clever enough to know when to activate them with TECHNOLOGY.

Maybe the Fiesta is not that smart.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Usually if your car has front and rear sensors, they all come on when you select reverse, and then stay on even if you select forward drive until you go above a certain speed at which point they all deactivate.

That button is most likely to be used for deactivating the sensors when reversing, but can also be used to activate them (all of them, front and rear) at any other times.

HTH HAND.

Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

I thought in traffic you shouldn't be close enough to activate them. "Tyres 'n' tarmac" and all that.

Admittedly, I don't actually know what the sensor range is though.

Author:  myp [ Sun Mar 18, 2018 12:26 ]
Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

I'd have been close enough to activate them when a twat in a mini came across two lanes to squeeze into a gap that didn't exist yesterday. Even with slamming the brakes on I gave him an almost imperceptible nudge. Could have been disastrous.

Blimey. Narrow escape.

I wonder what my Superb would do - it has adaptive cruise control as standard and while I thought I'd turned it off it started braking as I approached a car waiting at T junction. Unnecessarily early, unnecessarily hard. If a vehicle suddenly appeared right in front of it would it emergency stop?

It freaked me out. The sales guy told me I can turn it off without turning cruise control off, he'd better be right.

Author:  Cavey [ Sun Mar 18, 2018 14:00 ]
Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

Gotta be honest, I would simply abhor that - the car deciding all by itself to (wrongly) start braking and too hard..? I can't stand nannying, interfering electronics at the best of times, but that really is taking the mickey; I'd never be able to relax and feel actually in control of the car.

On the contrary, the Mk 2 was awesome and is my fave Golf; these were the days of genuinely class leading build quality, and the GTI 16v was arguably the best hot hatch ever.

That looks pretty damn cool to me, Wookie (for whatever that’s worth lol). Classic wheels.

I was reading in one of my modder-type mags that much more recent, more powerful VAG engines just bolt into the Mk 2... imagine 200PS+ power in one of these!

I tried this(agu engine conversion), can confirm it's a lie. The amount of welding and prop shortening and general fucking about makes it very much not bolt in. That's the reason it was OTR for so long!

No that was actually fitted to this chassis so it works pretty easy (but yes, very rare), the agu is from, like a mk5 golf or Audi S3.
Plenty people have done it right enough but I see a lot for sale as part finished projects. I think it's somehow become a myth that it's a piece of piss.
