Nah, I want a GT Porsche more than any other car on the planet, much as I adore old RS Fords.

Somewhat ironically, unlike the previous two generations, it didn't have an awful lot of success on the world rally stage - mainly because TTE were caught cheating (in a super ingenious way) and they were banned.

Yeah how bloody stupid does everyone feel now, cheering people on in 2012? Seems to have boiled down to who had the best chemist?

Pfft. What a crock o' shite from start to finish - as predicted. The headlines are still rumbling on, as of even yesterday, so I see.

Had a longer go of the skodiaq today; it's still better than the epace but the 1.4 it's not pokey enough. Got a quote and incoming discount on the 2.0 which should be a) better out of the box and b) an easy remap.

Favouring a disco at this point though, it has to be said. Popping in tomorrow to start that negotiation rolling.

Quite handy both ways, "the Skoda isn't as good but it IS 7k cheaper" and "the disco is better and it's ONLY 7k more..."

I'm having another go in the superb purely to wind cavey up.

Not really, I really do fancy it, stupid overblown 2l and part time 4wd and all.

Fuck, I'd better go and cancel the order then.

Seriously though, too many concerns on the Kodiaq - we can't test the 2l before buying and Helen is concerned the gearstick was setting her tennis elbow off (big lumpy thing with the button into the side not the front like it should be).

I'm probably getting the superb though, because there are still no plans (they'll talk about, and I'm sure they would have given we'd just got done ordering a disco) for a petrol AWD xf sportbrake.

Charming account of a US motoring journalist who got to drive a 2008 Tata Nano -- the cheapest car in the world, with a brand-new list price of $2500 (very possibly the cheapest car in history, I think?) I totally buy his argument that this thing is an engineering triumph.

Rear engined and rear wheel drive? Looks like the only other contenders in class are Bedford Rascals and Porsche 911s. And for the price of a 911 you and 29 of your mates (sorry Z) could have a racing series!

I love the Nano, and have done since I read about it in a Land Rover magazine about a decade ago (they took it off-road and it fell over). It's exceptionally well-designed, and would have allowed people in India (and other countries) to be in a safe car rather than on an unsafe motorbike.

Sadly, I don't think it's selling very well at all, because owning a Nano meant you were poor (in a way that owning a motorbike costing the same or less money didn't, somehow), which is such a shame.

It's a bad car, for sure - in the same way that a McDonald's 69p burger is a bad burger - but for the money, both of them are hard to beat.

Pretty sure it doesn't meet even the US' version of road safety standards for crash survivability.

Wait, I thought you could drive basically anything in (some parts of) the US, due to the lack of MOT or anything like it?

I saw possibly the most horrendous looking modified BMW estate this morning, wish I'd taken a pic. I've seen it before but its had more work done now :D

Mid green base colour with polished chrome (wrapped?) centre area of bonnet and roof stripe, black plastic flared wheel arches and black side stripes. Finished with a racing style wing.

You seen this about, Markg?

Varies by state, I think. There's no federal laws IIRC

There's very little ongoing enforcement in most states after sale (I once saw a car in Indiana where the lower third of the door's outer shell had rusted away. You could see the bottom of the window rails, framed by rusty, jagged, tetanus-loaded metal.) But there are emissions and crash safety checks on new cars, which the Nano would fall within. Can't imagine Tata would be excited about paying for the testing and certification process.

If all anyone takes away from that charming article is that the Tata Nano is a "right piece of absolute shit" I think they should check to see if they are dead inside.

But we got a Transit instead :(
