I have to say I am really impressed with the Skoda, I have had 4 Golfs (2 x Mk6 and 2 x MK7), but wanted a change. First impressions, the car interior is a little bit more plasticy than the VWs, but I think that is reflected in the price.

The boot space is massive so won't be an issue with all my tri stuff.

The car itself seems a lot more nimble than my golf, same engine. Not sure if it is because it is an automatic, but pop it in sport mode and it lifts quickly.

It is averaging 54mpg on my commute.

A big thumbs up

That's good to hear, glad it's worked out. Skodas are grand. I really like our Yeti, though I can feel it starting to creak now.*

*May just be my brain trying to persuade me the MG ZS EV is justified**

**I took it for a test drive last weekend - really easy to drive, nippy enough, and the cabin felt like a nice place to be. Impact of electronics on range is beginning to concern me, and making me look longingly at a Jag iPace, but no amount of man maths can make that add up.

A Model 3 sits right between those two price brackets.

Gates timing belt kit and water pump are here and ready to be fitted along with new front wishbones.

Please let this be an end to my current niggles.

I’ve got one you can have that I don’t use as I have a stereo with Apple CarPlay now. Do you still have an iPhone 8? It does Qi charging, right?

I thought I'd responded to the but in weird coincidence the exact same thing came up in another forum at the same time - buy vagcom/vcds instead and get access to all the other things that are in the car but behind a paywall!

Now that I've elected to keep the yeti, I've noticed a certain stickiness when changing gears. Especially between second and third. How expensive a problem is this likely to be?

It's a manual btw

Is it when moving the shifter side ways or the back and forth action?

Misty has gone and bought a ridiculous car after all. It's only the 312BHP 2.3 Ecoboost version, so it won't sound as nice as the V8, or go quite as quick, but it should be a lot cheaper to run!

Oh yeah, sorry forgot to reply, there's 2 cables that run from the shifter to the box, one deals with side to side movement and one deals with the back, back and forth, forth. I expect one is sticky. You can lube them a bit but replacement is a better idea.

Thank you! When you say replacement, you mean cable replacement, not gearbox replacement?

Yes that. It's not complicated stuff but they're often quite hard to get to so can still be fairly time consuming.

Just spray WD-40 on everything.

Then wipe with a microfibre cloth.

Could even be it needs adjusting, not lining up properly with the gates? They'll probably be able to tell by feel. Good luck :)

Handbrake placement looks odd on the mustang. Looks better suited to LHD. Watch your brew in the cupholders!

I would imagine it would be rare for the mpg to reach double figures.

Well, that's annoying. Confirmed the car was available, sent over the deposit, sorry it's sold...

Cor, ugly thing. Bit too pricey to buy and run though!

No, well, yes, but also I bought a new car yesterday.

2017 C-Max 2.0 TDCi Powershift Titanium X. 12k miles.

Mostly we wanted more space for the dog, and something a bit more powerful and nicer to drive than the Skoda was.

It has some pleasant quality-of-life upgrades, like two-zone climate control and mirrors that fold themselves in instead of having to do it manually (London streets be narrow.) Also has some cool gadgets, like hands-free powered tailgate (you waggle your foot under the rear bumper and it opens), CarPlay and Android Auto (because fuck car mounts and cable clutter), and auto-self-parking (which is _amazing_ by the way.)

I have the self parking. It is quite cool.

I've seen it on Grim...'s Focus and thought it was neat. I wondered if it would be a bit of a gimmick, and was only looking for specifically it because on the C-Max it comes in the options pack that has the reversing camera (and the camera is pretty handy, especially in tight London city parking.)

But when we brought the car home and I got my first chance to use it, I was very impressed. I went past a space that was tight enough that, had I been in charge, I'd have thought "ugh, bit narrow, bit of a faff, I'll look for a bigger space further down." But without any fuss at all, the car just inserted itself into it. Very cool tech.
