Argh. I'm in three minds.

The Wii version: designed for SDTVs so no tiny text possibilities, and the fact that The Lady will play it. Although it's said that the GHIII Wii Guitar won't work. The Twunts.

Or

The 360 version: With possibility of not being able to read the lyrics and so on, with The Lady hating it because it's on "that horrible machine". But downloadable content.

Or

Neither because it's going to be over a hundred quid. In a way I wish they had given a cut down version where you didn't need a drum kit and could just the Wii remotes (like this and this).

Not it's not. Amazon have it at 9th May for PS3, no date for the 360.

The wii remote would be too heavy to be able to play the drums realistically as you wouldn't be able to roll properly with them - also, you really do need a surface to actually meet to be able to play at drumming in any kind of satisfying way - using only the remotes for drumming simulation would mean extremely basic drumming, and wouldn't work.

I am wanting Rock Band.

I can almost hear your heart quickening at the possibility, then the slight relief that it's not been out for ages without you knowing and then sold out, and then disappointment that it's still going to be ages until it actually comes out.

Woe is Grim...

Informative Mimi! Those videos make it look like 'easy' or even 'medium' would be possible with them, but I'm sure your right.

It's just if they sold a £70 version with guitar and speaker, then a £40 drum kit separately or whatever, I could space out the purchases, but it's going to be so much money...

The PS3 pre-order on Amazon is only £40.
I think they may have fucked up.

If you look at the related items below for Guitar Hero they all specify 'Guitar hero for 360 with such and such controller'

The link that you have there Grim... appears to be for the game itself, with no controllers. There are no details listed, so they wouldn't even say they messed up if that was the case as it mentions no controllers anywhere.

I am absolutely gagging for Rock Band. I've got £150 of winnings sitting in my Pacific Poker account waiting for it. My youngest is a Guitar Hero idiot savant, my middle son plays the drums and my oldest fancies herself as a singer, so I'm all ready for some Partridge Family action, even if it does mean I'm going to end up being the sodding bassist.

In slightly related news, I finally five-starred every song in GH2 on Medium last weekend. I was ludicrously pleased with myself.

I know a lad on another forum (please dont ban me) who works in a indie game shop in alnwick and he said an EA rep expected it to come out late april/early may but there was no actual confirmed date. Ive had a shopto pre-order for a couple of months and when I pre-ordered GTA4 I noticed the pre-order date had changed to June 1st and kind of thought they may have just confirmed the actual date before an annoucement except the 1st of june is a sunday. lame.

I have started playing GH3 on expert now.

Will look into Rock Band when it comes out, RRP is an issue.
Also, the ability to use the GH3 les paul is a must. despite owning GH2 explorer, I cant play it well at all.
Like the look of the Stratocaster that comes with Rock Band, though.

Hope that strumming rumour about the guitar parts was just a rumor though or that would be a deal breaker. pink!

I prefer the xplorer than the les paul, the buttons are more clicky and better for fast bits. Although the wire is a pain in the arse.

if you actually strum the bar by flicking it, it causes you to bodge up notes, like its too sensitive or something. i dont like to play GH by holding the strum bar, and I can play with a plectrum no problems with the les paul.

its just generally nicer bty far for me.
I bought the explorer for 2 player larks so any noobs can use that, but not me :P

ps trade Explorer + something (cash?) for your les paul?

I better keep the les paul, because everyone else seems to prefer it to the xplorer.

360 GH2 & 3 guitars will work, but not the PS3 versions (the last I read).

I'm greatly looking forward to Rock Band. I look forward to playing with the drum kit. I fear how much it will be. It looks like it was released at a fairly reasonable price in the US but that doesn't usually apply here.

A chum has already imported it and it is fantastic. The strumming feel of the (now broken because of shit build) guitar is really different to GH. It is all about the drums though, if I buy it for myself I am going to have to find a way of dampening the sound as the constant banging is liable to drive your neighbours mental.

It is as good as it looks...

My Amazon.co.uk preorder, which I placed almost a year ago for the blatantly incorrect price of £69.99, has suddenly acquired a shipping date of 12th-15th May. The last time it changed was a few days before the news that it slipped in Europe, so maybe Amazon have a stock hotline. CAN IT BE? ROCK BAND AT LAST?

Eurogamer are reporting May 23rd for the Xbox 360 version on a timed exclusive, with PS2/PS3/Wii to follow "in the summer". IGN (premium article reprinted on Eurogamer) are claiming the following prices:
Instrument Pack (drums, guitar, mic - no game): £129.99
    Game: £49.99
    Wireless guitar: £59.99
    Wireless guitar: £69.99

That's... rather spendy if it's true. It also seems odd that the only bundle is all the controllers and not the game. I'm iffy about the IGN article, I'd wait on some confirmation. The timed exclusive thing is rather odd too, quite a coup for MS though.

Perhaps importing the PS3 version isn't such a stupid idea. With the dollar in the crapper, it'd probably work out a hell of a lot cheaper, even after shipping.

I thought the American on was pretty much £100 anyway?
Im fine with this price especially since I was worried about the £150 preorder price on shopto.
Anyway Im super excited.

Runcle, note that according to IGN, the £130 pack doesn't include the game, it's just the instruments!

Buy another one locally, I guess. Also: guitars, plural? Are you going to get two Rock Band Strats? I was going to get one Strat and stick with my current GHIII Les Paul for the second guitar.

Gah! I knew I should have bloody bought this at Xmas. And er, somehow fit it onto the plane. It was nowhere near... It costs £75, all inc. I believe, thanks to current exchange rates. That's around £100 less!

Yes, that price is bonkers. So bonkers that it makes me feel there has to be some sort of miscommunication going on.

I'll still end up getting it because, hey, it's not like I'm buying it with real money. But I won't respect myself in the morning.

It wouldn't, by all accounts. Sorry. The PS3 version's region-free, the 360 version isn't.

I've already said my bit on Rock Band too many times. So much so that Grim... is able to predict what I'm going to say each time.

So I won't bother repeating myself. But I'm not going to buy it.

And the promo code "experience08" gets you another 5% off. So £133. Not fantastic, but good enough for me.

Sorry. I do feel I'm being mugged, but what can I say? I really, really want to play Rock Band.
