Covetors used to drop a couple of Harvestor laser things and, on occasion, a faction shield booster. Usually fitted with one WCS, as they like their expanded carfoholds. Pilots don't pay ransoms so blow it up anyway, or, if the offer, take the money then blow them up anyway. Pods are worth a score due to implants. Ransom them, then blow them up anyway.

I was led to belive that doing this lead a lot of other pilots to be angry with you.

Pros of not honoring ransoms : More money, remove the person from local so they cannot warn others, corpse, possibility of hate mail from pilot, pilot's corporation, pilot's alliance and a threat of a war dec, which could lead to more fights (you'll be outnumbered about 4:1 if they do come looking which makes surviving all the more fun (see Vexor vs Catalyst, Blackbird, 2x Rifters that I survived), or more epic escapes from underneath their noses (awesome chase through space over several systems after I ganked a mining barge under the nose of a battleship and legged it)

Cons of not honoring ransoms : People in their immediate circle might not pay you, but never mind, tehre's another 29,000 people who will pay.

One supposes it's the extent to which one roleplays the character. I decided early on that Malicious Afterthought would be a person of a chaotic, evil (in the D&D sense) alignment and, as such, when choices had to be made, the Malicious Afterthought sat in Oxfordshire controlling the Malicious Afterthought in space made them according to what he believed the character would do.

As Malicious Afterthought, the spaceship person gained more experience, the choices became easier to make as his own narrative and back story had become more fully formed, and I began to enjoy playing him. Trouble is, it sometimes came across over Vent/TS so people thought it was Malicious Afterthought in Oxfordshire that was the madman, not the one in space.

Hmm. That makes me sound even more of a lunatic, doesn't it?

Every time Mali posts an Eve-related story, it tempts me to go back and have another crack at it. At least, until I remember how hateful it is and how much life MMO games suck out of you.

If I want to be doing something other than Eve, I just console myself with the fact that I'm training something and fire up my 360. 20 minutes to play this evening? Run a mission. Couple of hours and no specific direction? Mine up a couple of million and get some skillbooks or ships you wanted. Afternoon off? Hit up corpmates for some PVP or lvl4 missions.

I miss the thrill of the hunt and the massive adrenalin kick of warping in on a target, the feeling of my heart rate rising as I land, activate systems and target and close in for the kill. It's the only game ever to have got that response.

I don't miss the 3 hours it takes to find someone to do that to.

Solo hunting is the best EvE, but takes up far too much time.

Missions? Nah, Malicious Afterthought doesn't work for anyone but himself. And a few close friends.

Do you ever run out of training, or has there been enough to cover 24-hour training since the game's creation (assuming you stay alive that long)?

You can only queue training if it is going to start within 24 hours. That still means newbians won't ever have to get up at 5am to flip, lucky basts.

@MF: I think there has always been enough so there is something to train. Some things take months.

You don't lose training when you die anyway, well, unless you've let your clone contract get out of date (which is a fucking stupid error). I think I remember reading a few years ago that minimum time to train all skills was well over 10 years.

For some reason, I assumed that when you die you'd have to start again (I think I'd prefer it that way). What does actually happen then?

Ah. Well, it can still happen, given the circumstance you mentioned.

Either way, ten years' worth is about plenty, I reckon.

Yes.

devilman wrote:

If your clone contract is out of date, you lose skills. That's the worst thing that can happen, which is why non-belms keep their clone contracts in good order. You lose any (expensive) skill-boosting implants you bought and you lose your ship, which depending on what it is, could represent money amounting to dozens of hours of work to replace.

It took me around 200 hours of game time to get my first Battleship, which took around four months total.

I know and that is what hurts so much.

I miss it.

And it is the only game I've ever properly missed.

Even the shit "we're building a station, guard this gate for X hours, we're doing it in shifts was made tolerable by my scouting out other systems and cocking about. But I'm bizarrely proud to say that the alliance I was in did that. In nerd terms. And, aside from my own corps, I'm kinda proud to have been in NOCTS and F1END. 'Cos Malka was alright, really.

I'm in Ruvas at the moment.
Why? Because someone at work was all "wah wah wah look at my awesome Eve character wah wah" and I had to resub to get my character sheet out.
I had more points in Gunnery than he had in total.

All BeeX pilots are welcome in THE CHILLOUT ROOM which is my corp's (Hoplite Brigade) open chat. I'd be interesting in joining BeeXcorp in the future but I've done very well from the Hoplites and I'm staying until I've returned their investment and don't need a nurturing environment so much. Also they're a good laugh and the guy who teaches me FW is was top of the Minmatar Militia killboard yesterday, which is some going. He fucking hates Amarrians, I hope he never comes across my alt :/
