That last episode was possibly even worse than watching actual Top Gear with Chris Evans.

Yeah on the one hand another "panto special", but I must confess to laughing like a drain through much of it (Mrs C left in disgust though lol). There's no way I'm going to hate an episode that features the mighty 991 GT3-RS (what a car.....) *and* takes the non-stop piss out of environmentalists :D

That BMW was total pants though, hardly any quicker than a *4 cylinder* little Boxster costing one-third as much (and about a hundred-fold more practical and better to drive).... what the hell are they on? For me personally, if you want a genuinely good driver's BMW, you have to go all the way back to the E46 M3, and that was 15 years ago now. M Division have lost the plot.

Smartest take I saw on this was LewieP's:

'The real telling thing about Hammond's ice cream joke is that he's too much of a coward to actually say the word "gay". He wants to pander to the sexist/racist/homophobic audience he's cultivated, but doesn't want those labels applied to himself.'

It's unlikely to reduced viewing figures but may lead to some Brexit Britain first twats who'd missed a couple returning.

Also it's prime-renewing prime time-time.

New Top Gear started tonight.

The Ferrari was stunning (and oh shitting God did it sound amazing), and the challenge was fun.

The Star in the (new) car bit was horribly scripted from beginning to end, though, in fact all the in-studio bits were horrible.

Still: a large improvement on the beginning of the last series.

Yep, it's a lot better than The Grand Tour, Ginger Gear or the last few years of the Clarkson TG.

Author:  ApplePieOfDestiny [ Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:47 ]
Post subject:  Re: Top Gear

I also think its pretty good, and agree with Zoidberg.

I hope, however, that they do decide to cut down on the forced Bantz. They're trying to match Old Top Gear, where said Bantz were based on 20 odd seasons of 'Character development' and so the viewer knew the premise on which they were based. James May wasn't called Captain Slow in episode 1, so they shouldn't be trying to recreate those relationships artificially now. It did kind of work on the Oman section, but not on the sofa.

Top Gear has been great this season, and tonight’s Japan special was superb. Just a shame they ruined two nice cars.

The Grand Tour was also pretty decent, apart from the finale which was abysmal.

Author:  DavPaz [ Sun Mar 11, 2018 22:40 ]
Post subject:  Re: Top Gear

Was the finale the road trip with the fish? That was proper turd. They're trying to recreate manually something that happened quite organically in previous specials and the way it fizzled out at the end made it abundantly clear that the three leads don't give a flying fuck about the whole thing anymore.

Author:  Zardoz [ Mon Mar 12, 2018 11:09 ]
Post subject:  Re: Top Gear

I can't bear to watch TGT anymore. The car sections are usually great but when the three of them are stood about talking bollocks it's piss poor.

Should've had the balls to end it earlier. The BBC didn't want to concede that there was no show without Clarkson. It seems they were wrong
