England fail at the last hurdle again. Sigh.

In other news: I now has Lara '07. But... it's the SAME GAME as '05 with a few tweaks! Never mind. It's still good fun and I got 15G for scoring a 50 in a 6 over slog match to try it out. Cheers!

Give me some practice time. I usually just play limited over slog fests unwind. I managed to bowl out zimbabwe in '05 for 2 runs (both no-balls).

Of course in Zimbabwe runs that's 4.6 million.

Post subject:  Re: Cricket

My favourite Lara moment so far - Jacques Kallis ending his ODI spell with a per-over economy rate of 60.

First delivery was a wide no-ball that Andrew Strauss cut to the rope. The second disappeared through the covers like a tracer bullet for four more. His third attempt was another no-ball, sitting up on Strauss' pads to be tucked away behind square on the leg side for the third boundry of the over, then he threw down a horribly slow bouncer which was biffed many a mile over midwicket for a maximum, overhauling the Saffers total and ending the game.

Final figures - 0.2 overs, no maidens, no wickets for 20 runs. :D

I wouldn't say that it ruined my game. More made my day.

This was on County difficulty level, mind you. I can't see any appreciable difference from the Slog difficulty other than decent opposition batsmen putting on slightly more runs.

My last game with myp was brilliant. We dropped about ten slip catches each.

Post subject:  Re: Cricket

To be honest, I don't see much difference between the AI levels, at all. I play solely on Test now, and I can still bowl out oppositions for 10 after piling on 750-odd in 50 overs.

I'm not even that good. :'(

Oh yeah, catching is a nightmare. And I'd like the "hit over the top" option to be fractionally easier to time. Oh, and the "Dance Down The Wicket" button is basically a "Get Yourself Out" button. Other than that it's a good laugh.

Although it didn't give me my bloody acheivement for winning the World Cup. Do I have to play all the sodding warm-up games too?

No, you just have to play your stroke extremely early. I've managed to wang it miles by using the dance button.

Hmmm, did you sim any of the matches at all? I think even if you sim an over it doesn't give you the achievement.

* - Not needed, since the AI's never gotten a total I couldn't chase down in five overs.

It would be better if it was a whole cricket game, and not just the hitting a wooden ball with with sticks half.

Oh, and BL07 is 30 notes at Game apparently. I can only hope they or HMV have it in their second hand section tonight, preferably without a mahoosive gouge through the disk like the last second hand game I bought from canary wharf did.

You know the old saying about how insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting to get different results?

Rarely has it been illustrated more clearly than getting Andrew 'accumulate' Strauss to open the ODI batting for England. Seriously, we're the only team in world cricket who thinks that a score of 12-0 after 10 overs is a good, solid start. Never mind that the dirty foreigners have scored 125 in the same time.

So, it's the start of an Ashes summer. Is anyone optimistic we'll get them back? There's just the small order of the West Indies first, though. What do you think of the batting lineup? Should Bopara be playing at no. 3?

What about the bowlers? Are they too inexperienced? Hasn't Hoggard been treated miserably?

Author:  JBR [ Wed May 06, 2009 11:17 ]
Post subject:  Re: Cricket

I'm reasonably happy with the team selection - they've gambled with the bowlers, which will probably end in tears but has the potential to blood some newbies and let them learn. Dropping Shah seems like the right move - he ought to be the right man but hasn't been so far and runs the risk of running out some other bugger - and Bopara is by all accounts highly talented. Haven't seen it myself but I hope they're right. As a whole, though, it's a team with potential but few 'bankers' - a bowler you know can tighten up one end, or a batsman you can rely on (perhaps Collingwood, but if he's the mainstay of the innings you're already in trouble).

I'd settle for being in contention through the Ashes and perhaps winning a test. If the bowlers have bad days Hughes will tear them a new one, and Ponting is overdue a good run.

I heartily endorse your good luck charm here. Course, it is May, which is early and often near-unplayable conditions. But a morale-boosting good performance will do them all good. I like the description of Swann "he doesn't bat, he just hit fours". Too right!

Its good to see two (relatively) new players make an immediate impact. However, WI shouldn't be that stern a test, and so I'll reserve judgement on them until day 2 of the first ashes test. It would be nice to see Bresnan given the ball to see what he can do. Nice to see Swann perform after the op too.

At the moment I'm looking more to the World Twenty20 which is unusual for me. Very disappointed though to see Steve Davies dropped form the squad, I thought he was our only interesting performer in the last match. Mind you, the day a worcestershire player gets a fair crack I'll be really surprised.
