SO....

Last night I installed a new hard drive in my PC and installed Vista (64, home premium) on it. It took such a long time I went to bed before it was finished. This morning it was all done. However - my old hard drive does not show up in vista.

I can still boot to XP on the old HDD just like before, and my new HDD shows up in XP.

Do I need to do anything special to get my old HDD to show up in vista? It's probably something simple but I didn't have time to play about with it this morning and am at work now. I'd rather not be formatting the old HDD or anything like that but can do it (if absolutely necessary) and I'd quite like to keep both XP and Vista on the PC.

I'm going to have a quick search on the interwebs, and fiddle about tonight (!), but in the meantime any pointers will be much appreciated.

Ta.

I believe what you need to do is go into Administrative Tools and then Computer Management ( I think it's called) and then the Disk Drive section.

You will probably see your old drive there, but without a drive letter assigned. What you'll probably have to do, just once, is right click and select an option that says something like 'Import foreign drive', or something like that.

Sorry for the vagueness of those instructions, but that's what you need to do I think. You won't need to (and should not) format the drive first to make it work, you should be able to import/mount it via there. :)

OK, I'll have a look at that when I get in tonight and see how it goes. I'm hoping it is just a simple setting that needs changing like that.

Cheers, Comical.
